Kain really is under Golbez's spell. He did say "hey let's rebel against Baron" in Mist, remember?
- Spoilering this just in case:
- Having just reviewed my post from then, I found no such words came from Kain's mouth. Instead what I did find is "We have to obey the king's orders" and "You intend to defy the king?" His morals did not (at least not immediately) match my own, so he came off as a foe rather than a friend. Matters are most likely not helped by how my icy heart requires much more than the game casually mentioning the two are best friends before I integrate that into my decision making process. Same thing with the King of Baron and Cecil.

Re: Let's Play Final Fantasy IV
- Part 12:
Before I board and sail off to my doom, there's an idea I had while posting my last part. Since Rydia is pretty strong now, I figured I can run my party in the three front, one rear configuration. No prizes for guessing who goes in the rear.
Oh yes, one more thing. I'm equipping Yang with the Thunder Claw since I presume I'll be fighting a lot of monsters weak to thunder.
"Keep your chin up, Cecil. You'll get her back in no time!"
Cecil: We'll do our best.
*everyone gets on one of the gangways, then turns as Yang has
something to say*
Yang: I trust you will look after everything in my stead.
Yang's Wife You bet. I love you, you big lunkhead!
*the party continues walking towards the bow of the ship where the Captain is waiting*
Captain: You're Cecil, I reckon? I heard you smacked the hell out of those Baron lovelies. Sit back, mate, and enjoy the ride.
Me: So does that mean I have absolutely no control aboard this ship? I thought I would end up sailing it myself. Instead I have the luxury of a crew.
I'm pretty sure the phrase "Cast Off" would be much more appropriate. I don't remember the last time I saw an anchor dropped at a dock.
Crew: Aye-Aye, Captain!
*the entire crew jumps at least 10 feet into the air*
Oh god... These guys are crazy...
*justs sits back as the ship speed along, making a couple of turns so we're eventually heading South*
Cecil: We have to meet Cid, Baron's chief airship engineer.
He'll help us.
Yang: I only hope the man you speak of is safe.
Edward: ...
Rydia: Are you cold? You're shaking.
Edward: I'm fine. It...it's nothing...
Me: You're seasick aren't you :P
*the journey continues, until the ship starts shaking violently*
HOLY SHIT
Sailor: Shiver me timbers!
Me: As scary as this situation is I can't help but wonder if
pirates and other seaman really swore like that.
Sailor: Holy mackerel!
Sailor: The lord of the sea!
Sailor: Is that...?
Captain: Yes! It's Leviathan!
*is awestruck*
Captain: Change course!
I didn't see it happen, but I do believe my little girl just fell overboard.
Yang: Rydia!
*Yang jumps overboard*
Cecil: Rydia! Yang!
*the ship surges forward twice and Edward falls on his face*
Edward: Argh!
Cecil: Edward!
*the monster slips below the waves as the ship starts to spin like
a top*
Is this the sea floor?
"Oh..."
"Ugh..."
"Where am i?"
That is the million dollar question now isn't it.
"Rydia!"
"Edward!"
"Yang!"
Where is everyone...?
What the fuck...
*checks my menu screen for any clues*
I'm all alone...
Or not?
*enters*
Mysidia...
A village of Mages? How interesting...
*asks about*
"I have nothing to say to the likes of you!"
I'm apparently not welcome here.
"You...! Take this! Toad!"
WHAT HAVE I TURNED IN TO???
*talks to the same guy again and gets turned back to normal*
I'm definitely not welcome here...
*goes inside the weapon shop*
At least the merchants are willing to sell stuff to me.
*buys a Flame Rod, a Healing Staff, a Crossbow, and attempts to buy Holy Arrows*
Oh come on.......
*sells off my magic imitating items, and the two Goblin summons I have*
*only frees up 8 five slots while doing so*
*relunantantly sells off my old Dark armor*
*now has 11 open slots*
I don't really want to let go of the Hades armor or my old weapons... But I suppose those are the next things to go if need be. I'm definitely keeping my healing items and also my elemental equips and my universalish ones as well.
*realizes I have plain old rods that I could do without*
*now has 12 slots*
*buys 94 Holy Arrows so I now have 100*
*goes next door and finds very useful equip items*
*buys a Wizard's Hat, assuming it will increase Spellcasting Abilities*
Now that I know that my inventory is limited, I'm hesitant to buy the other equips here. I'm also unsure if I'll be able to return here... Most of this stuff is effect mainly on the undead.
*on my way out of the store, I talk to the Black Mage in the side of the store*
"What do you want? More weapons to butch our people with?"
Hmm....
*outside I speak to one of the White Mages, who seems much friendlier*
"The Devil's Road has warped dimensions. Supposedly, one must sacrifice significant vitality to cross it."
Now that information is quite helpful. I would tip him/her if I could.
*talks to another White Mage*
"Ack! You're the dark knight from Baron!"
*she jumps into the bushes*
What the hell... my reputation must be very bad...
*talks to her again since she is still visible and this time she
jumps into the woods, out of sight*
*talks to yet another White Mage*
"People hurt other people; people kill other people. I am saddened by this human behavior."
Pretty sure they wouldn't want to join my party...
*walks over to where a Black Mage is guarding the door to a hut*
"Inside this building is the Devil's Road, which leads all the way
to Baron. The road has been sealed since the incident."
What incident?
*speaks to another White Mage and then a Black Mage*
"You have no idea how much pain and suffering you have caused us..."
"You have the gall to come here!?"
Seriously, what the fuck happened...
Maybe I'll find answers here.
Black Mage: We are all born innocent, yet many evil souls
pervade the land today.
*finds a trio of a black mage, an unidentified man, and a White Mage*
Black Mage: The elder said we should forgive and forget your terrible acts...yet I cannot.
White Mage: You are in the Manor of Prayers. You may talk to the elder, if you wish.
Elder: You are that boy from before. Why have you returned?
Me: What? *is starting to come to a pretty grim conclusion*
Cecil: My name is Cecil. I am the former commander of the Red Wings. Before, I did not have the courage to go against the king's orders...
Elder: Apologizing won't bring back those who have already died.
Cecil: ...
Elder: However... I see that you have changed. Perhaps it would not be a waste of my time to hear what you have to say.
Cecil: We are currently fighting against a man named Golbez, who presently holds power in Baron. However, my friends were attacked by Leviathan on our way to rescue someone who had been captured by Golbez...
Elder: ...Perhaps this is a test and you must prove yourself worthy. However, you have come to rely too much on your dark sword. This will only lead to the darking of your soul. If you wish to fight with purity, you must head to Mt. Ordeals to the east. There, you may find, is where your fate lies.
Cecil: But my friends are in danger! We can't waste any time!
Elder: I see your friends mean much to you. But you mustn't be impatient. You are destined to a great fate. You must go to Mt. Ordeals and transform that dark sword you carry to into one of light.
Me: *looks at Deathbringer, having realized what the next part of the plot is*
Elder: Those who accept the holy light will become paladins. However, many have journeyed to Mt. Ordeals, but none have returned... Do you wish to go?
Cecil: Yes. But I have little confidence I can do this on my own.
Elder: I thought as much. I shall call upon some mages to help you. Palom! Porom!
My first thought is "Oh my god, I'm entrusting my life to children." Then I thought if the next part of the plot is to change me from a Dark Knight into a Paladin, something I'm not totally okay with, then children only help that process. Nothing is more pure than a child.
Elder: Where is Palom?
Girl: Palom! Come out this minute!
*Palom appears next to me in a cloud of blue smoke, but is identified in text as Boy*
Boy: I can't believe I'm helping this sleaze. Be grateful that Mysidia's prodigy, Palom, will assist you!
Cecil: Are they the mages...?
Elder: Yes. This is Palom and Porom. Although still apprentices, they should be of great help.
Palom: I'm the greatest mage in Mysidia! You should be thankful I'm helping you out!
Elder: Palom! I hope you behave yourself on this journey...
Porom: My name is Porom. I'm pleased to meet you, sir.
Porom: Palom! Greet him properly!
Palom: Hey, nice to meetcha.
Elder: Now go to Mt. Ordeals. You two, do everything in your power to assist Cecil.
*checks their levels and finds them to be both Level 10*
*finds Palom to be left handed and holding a rod while Porom is right handed and is holding a Staff and that both have feathered Cap, Leather Garb, and Iron Ring*
Palom has Fire, Blizzard, Thunder, Sleep, and Poison.
Porom has Cure, Hold, Scan, Slow, Sight
*heads inside the Inn, which turns out to be a Pub*
*discovers that the general mood of the town has turned from distrust and anger, to laughter to the idea of me becoming a Paladin*
*quietly hits F4 to find out what they were going to say to me earlier*
*is poisoned by the bar tender*
So poison takes effect every step you take...
*is told by a Drunken Man he ain't afraid of me while his drinking companion demands I release their comrades*
*heads upstairs and finds the actual Inn*
*finds a Dancer downstairs and is put to sleep by her*
WHAT DID SHE DO TO ME D:
"Heeheehee... You require much training."
SHE TURNED ME INTO A PIG
*hits F4 again*In case you were wondering, she'll still do this even when Palom and Porom join the party. And they will become pigs too.
So much for the "Greatest Mage in Mysidia"
*returns to town to heal up in the Inn*
*switches the twins to the back row*
*Palom gains a level on my way back to Mysida once again to pick up shields for the twins*
*Palom learned Blizzara and Pig*
*Porom also gained a level and learned Life*
Perhaps there's some truth to what he claims...
*discovers neither twin can equip the Light Shield offered in town
and sells back the shield*
*discovers that the Wizard's Hat I bought earlier will increase their defense*
*buys another hat, one for Porom and one for Rydia when she returns to my party*
*also finds that Gaia Gear and Silver Armlets can be equipped to them and buys two of each*
*also equips a Flame Rod to Palom and a Healing Staff to Porom*
*picks up a Gold Needle while heading out to the Mountain, again*
*the twins level up again while traveling through a Forest*
*Palom learned Fira and Porom learned Protect*
Oh boy.... Never faced this one before.
*Deathbringer steps in with it's special ability*
Welcome to the mountain that has killed many before me. And
I'm heading up, not really wanting to be purified, with children.
*the twins level up again, Palom learns Thundra and Porom learns Cura*
So apparently the way to fight this fire is with ice. I believe Lief already addressed this issue before, but I just remembered that if temperatures are high enough, ice explodes. Anyone remember the Mythbusters episode about Thermite and Ice? Had they not put up the blast shield, someone would have gone to the hospital and they were standing quite a ways away from the test.
*just realized I didn't write down the earlier exchange between the two and would rather not have to do a bunch of stuff again*
*Porom smacks Palom after he puts out the fire*
Porom: Palom! The elder taught us not to submit to arrogance!
Porom: Please forgive him for his antics.
Do I get to see Rydia's fate now?!
Oh...
Golbez: Cecil aspires too much. He ascends Mt. Ordeals as we speak. I shall clip his wings now.
Me: That's not good. So I presume he's already aware of our plan.
Scarmiglione: So he desires to become a paladin...
Golbez Dispose of him. His dark sword should be all but useless against your undead.
Scarmiglone: I shall return with his head.
*Scarmiglone disappears*
Golbez:This is getting interesting, wouldn't you say, Kain?
Kain: Cecil might still prove to be quite a formidable opponent.
Golbez: You dare question my judgment?
Kain: No, sire!
Golbez: Scarmiglione is one of the four Elemental Lords. He will not fail. Rosa will bear witness as well.
Kain: Sire, please grant me a second chance! Instead of Scarmiglione, allow me the task of slaying him!
Golbez Just be grateful I let you live after that blunder.
Kain: ...
Rosa: Cecil...
*the camera returns to Cecil*
So... That only helped strengthen my belief that Kain is at least partially acting on his own will.
*soon finds a Potion and... another Potion*
Station Three?
Please rejoin my team!
Tellah: Cecil?
Tellah: What brings you here? Wait...you seek Meteor as well?
Cecil: Meteor?
Porom: You know about Meteor!?
Palom: That means you're Tellah! Hey, old man, am I right?
Porom: Don't be rude! You stand before the great sage himself!
Porom: It is an honor to meet you. We came here from Mysidia under orders of our elder.
Palom: Yeah, we're spying on...
Porom: *whack*
Porom: ...Excuse me. As I was saying, we're just serving
as guides for Sir Cecil. My name is Porom.
Palmo: And I'm Palom, Mysidia's more exalted mage! I've heard a lot about you!
Tellah: Kids from Mysidia, eh? Cecil, where are Rydia and Edward?
Cecil: We were attacked by Leviathan on our way to Baron, and...
Tellah: What? They aren't dead, are they!?
Cecil: I'm afraid so... On top of that, Golbez has captured Rosa.
Palom: I'll betcha that's his girlfriend!
Porom: Hush!
Cecil: I thought you'd headed straight to Baron to confront Golbez.
Tellah: Against the likes of Golbez, my spells still lack power. I've come here to seek the legendary spell, Meteor. I sense a strong aura on this mountain. I believe it holds what I am looking for.
Porom: But that spell is much too dangerous! It requires tremendous vitality. For a man of your age...
Tellah: I admit I am old. But I will make Golbez pay, even if t costs me my life!
Cecil: ...
Palom: Geez. Why are adults so pigheaded?
Porom: You don't understand because you're still a kid! Now hush!
Tellah: Cecil, you have yet to answer my question. Why did you come here?
Cecil: I came here in hopes of becoming a paladin. I cannot defeat Golbez with the dark sword...and I have longed to renounce this hateful thing.
Palom: Who's Golbez?
Porom: Don't you know anything!? He's the one controlling Baron.
Tellah: Not just an ordinary man, but a powerful sorcerer, brimming with evil!
Tellah: So, you've come here to become a paladin? Then this mountain must hold some secret, just as I suspected. I shall accompany you.
Palom needs to seriously straighten out his attitude before it gets him killed.
I don't understand the naming system...
Oh Wow! She's beautiful!
*she slaps Tellah with her tail and now Tellah is down on one knee with a skull above him*
*she then proceeds to nearly kill Palom*
*takes her out with a slash of Cecil's sword and a Thundra hit*
*notices I still have a Wizard's hat and equips to Tellah*
*finds an Ether*
I'm at the Summit already?
I don't really like the sound of that...
Porom: Palom, stop that!
Palom: Stop what?
*finds a healing spot and eagerly uses it*
*mysterious sound again*
Porom: I said, stop it!
Palom: It's not me!
*mysterious sound again, possibly from a snake*
Tellah: I sense an evil presence.
"I will enjoy...killing you all."
Cecil: Who's there!?
But you're wearing a purple cloak now...
"But first... My undead hunger...for your flesh!
Well at least he knows how to show up at the right moment.
*I win and Tellah levels up to Level 23, Palom levels up and learns Stop, and Porom also levels up*
Hmm... It seems the Elemental Lord is actually dead. What I find interesting is that he did not share the same weakness as his recolored zombies. So he was gaining HP when I used Cura and Cure. However I was dealing him more damage than Porom was restoring.
Uh...
*Scarmiglione appears behind me*
Oh shit...
*notes the different battle music and takes advantage of my wait setting to open up the item menu and take a good listen*
*finishes and for once, reaches for the White Magic first, casting Slow and Stop, but apparently to no aval*
Alright so this guy poisons 'cause both Palom and Tellah are now poisoned.
*by chance discovers this guy takes massive damage, and I mean massive, from Thundra*
*learns that the same does not apply for Thunder*
WHAT'S HAPPENING!
*a second later*
Oh... I won.
*Cecil levels up*
I think how are you still alive is a better question...
World is now shaking!!!
*that guy falls to his supposed doom*
Sucks to be him... If he survives that fall, I doubt Golbez will allow him to live.
This soundtrack... I'll try to put it in if I can.
Cecil: "Son"!? Just who are you!?
*we go inside*
"By doing so, my pain will only grow. But there is no other way..."
That sword is coming towards me!
It seems Cecil just got a major makeover...
"You must fight...against the dark knight you wish to rid yourself of!"
*the previous Cecil walks over and Tellah is surprised*
Palom: What's going on!?
Porom: There are two of them!
Contrast new and old Cecil.
Polom: Hey!
Porom: Look out!
Dramatic Change is Dramatic. O_O
This reminds me of Magia Erebea. In order to learn the spell, you must fight the spell's creator, representing the darkness within you and answer her question. You either figure out the answer and win, or die endlessly until your soul is destroyed. Or another person stabs the scroll with a special dagger, possibly resulting in the in loss of the ability to use magic, but freeing you from Evangeline's torment.
Now let's see...
So I can use white magic now? And Cover... I'm curious if that's just a defensive thing. Also note the increase in health.
*notes the screen keeps flashing something along the lines of a true Paladin sheathes his sword.
*is defeated while trying to heal with a potion*
*is presented with the game's title screen, effectively meaning Game Over*
*hits F4, having decided to hit F2 just before the weird voice*
Okay, clearly I did it wrong. I was trying different things to avoid attacking, but Dark Cecil kept spamming Dark, which did take it's toll. Eventually I started fighting back and using potions as my health ran low.
I just thought that perhaps I just need to survive eight or nine turns to allow Dark Cecil to run out of health on his own.
*figures out how to defend and now the messages change to ask me what I fight for*
I may have it here...
Oh wow, defending was the key.
"You have done well... Now receive my spirit as light. My soul, my light... With this, you must stop Golbez. Farewell, my son."
Cecil: Please, wait!
*long victory tune plays while I start to play Skillet's newest album, Rise*
Porom: Are you alright?
Palom: You must be...
Porom: Palom! Enough!
Cecil: This feeling... I can't explain it. It feels...so familiar. That voice...
Tellah: ...I've got it!
Porom: Master Tellah?
Tellah: My spells! I remember them now!
*Tellah remembered all of his spells*
Tellah: !? Me...teor...? That light! Somehow, it broke the seal upon Meteor!
*Tellah has learned Meteor, in case you haven't figured it out*
Porom: He is indeed a great sage.
Palom: Hey, Porom... I kinda think...
Porom: Er, Cecil?
Palom: We have to tell you something. We're actually...
Tellah: I am ready to face Golbez! I am doom itself! Come, Cecil! To Baron!
Cecil: Yes...to Baron. That light... Why did it call me "Son"?
*Tellah races outside*
Palom: Hey, wait up!
*Porom jumps up and dashes off after him*
Palom: Are you coming?
Cecil: ...Yes.
No... you're kidding me... I'M LEVEL 1 NOW
Also Tellah has All three levels of Fire, Blizzard, and Thunder.
Interestingly, Meteor is not on his list.
*Checks out Cecil and finds that he will level up pretty quick, that his attack is 42, has no armor, 6 defense points, and 0 of whatever the third stat is, and now possesses the Sword of Legend*
*mourns the loss of Deathbringer*
*equips Cecil with a Light Shield I happen to have on hand, boosting his defense to 8, and the third stat to 1*
*puts on one of the Twin's Feathered Caps, boosting Defense to 10 and Third to 4*
*calls it a Part*
At 52 images, I think that's my longest part yet.

- Part 12 spoilers in here:
- Since he's at level 1, Cecil will level up really fast. And his stats are really all-around better then when he was a Dark Knight. Shame he lost Darkness, though...
- Job Promotion Primer - Paladin:
Command Abilities:
Attack
White Magic
Cover
Item
Equip: Swords, Axes, Bows, Daggers, Staffs, pretty much All Armor
So, you want to be a paladin, huh? Well, first, you're going to either have to get 15 levels of Conjurer and 30 levels of gladiator, or face your dark side on a mountain full of undead. If you've done either of these, congratulations! You can call yourself a paladin.
What does being a paladin grant you, ability-wise? Well, you get a limited selection of White Magic - Cure, Cura, Libra, Sight, Teleport, and Esuna. Though the healing spells may be great when you first get them, as with all other spells, they won't be as effective later, and they won't be as effective as if a white mage cast them. Your support skills will still be valuable, however.
Your Cover ability will prove useful. Upon activating it, one ally of your choice is spared from attacks, though the attacks will affect you instead. You should automatically shield allies who can barely stand, though Cover will fail to activate if your own strength wavers.
Abilities that use the power of darkness shall obviously be unable to used as long as you bear the title of paladin.
- Character Primer - Palom:
Command List:
Attack
Black Magic
Bluff
Twincast
Item
Equip: Bows, Daggers, Rods
Palom is basically Rydia without summon magic (and the limited white magic). ...Which is really the best description for him. Even without the power to, uh, summon a bird to kick things, Palom kicks ass. Not only can he use Fire spells without plot events, his special command, Bluff, increases his intellect, and thus his Black Magic damage! Best thing? It stacks. Bluff Palom up long enough, and he can just wreck shit, especially if an enemy has a weakness.
Since Palom shares Twincast with Porom, and they require each other for it, I'll go over it in her section.
- Character Primer - Porom:
Command Abilities:
Attack
White Magic
Cry
Twincast
Items
White Magic is White Magic; useful as hell. Palom and Porom learn spells quicker then the previous mages in the party, by the by.
Cry is useless; it lets you run away quicker.
Twincast is the twin's ~special command~, and is mechanically unusual as well. Whenever the command is selected for one twin, no matter what the other twin is doing, they immediately start charging along the other. After the charge period is over, they cast one of two spells: Pyroblast, taking 10 MP from each, or Comet, which costs 20 MP each. Comet is stronger, hits all enemies, and (like all spells that hit all targets by default/Summons) pierces Reflect. Not that the last one is of too much interest; you only have a 25% chance of using Comet, so it's a rather risky gamble.
- Boss Primer - The Fiend of Earth:
HP: 200 Skulnant/3500 Milon
Attack: 42/19
Defense: 1/2
Magic: 0/15
Magic Defense: 5/0
Weakness: (Skulnant) Fire, Holy, Restorative
Resist: (Milon) Dark (50%)
Scarmiglione (called Milon above because it was used in older versions and was shorter) boasts a pretty simple battle: his lackeys attack, and he counters attacks with Thunder. Besides that, there isn't really much to say about the battle. So we can just go along and go what we came here for, right?- The pain of being wrong!:
HP: 3,523
Strength: 46
Magic: 31
Defense: 1
Magic Defense: 25
Weakness: Fire, Holy, Restorative*
Milon, being the fiend of Earth and thus undead, gains power from being dead. His claims of power are dubious because he gained three weaknesses. He does, however, punch us in the nads with a back attack, so you'll have to spend a turn reversing position if you didn't know about this battle. (Thankfully it's just one character's turn, not one of everyone's.) His attacks can poison, and hitting him with Fire has him counter with Poison Gas, which also poisons, or Cursed Elegy - this inflicts, uh, Curse, which makes the character weaker. A good strategy is to throw healing spells at him; Porom's are especially effective, I believe.
*on the wiki it says he absorbs it, meaning he gains HP, but he's undead, so I think it's fair to say somebody screwed up

Re: Let's Play Final Fantasy IV
- Part 13: The Siege of Baron:
*skips the intro bit and just continues where I left off due to laziness*
*Cecil gains 6 levels and learns sight*
*Palom and Porom also levels up and Porom learns Silence*
*Cecil again levels up to level 8 and learns Scan*
*Cecil levels up to Level 9*
*Cecil levels up to Level 10*
*makes it off the mountain*
*another level for the twins*
*Cecil gained a level*
*arrives in Mysidia and immediately askes about*
"H-How did YOU become a paladin!?"
"I didn't know there were people worthy enough to become paladins in this world."
"Wow, you look magnificent!"
"Well, I'll be hornswoggled. You did it!"
"What splendor... So this is the light of a paladin!"
"Dag, I've had too much. *hiccup* I coulda sworn I just saw a paladin..."
"You must conduct yourself like a paladin now."
"Ack! That appearance... Have you become a paladin? Gracious sakes..."
"I told you, you can't use the armor here until you become...a paladin...? When did you...? How...?"
"Heeheehee... You require much training."
So that bitch still turns my party into pigs...
"I still can't find it in my heart to forgive you."
"I observe you have seen much suffering yourself. I shall pray for you hereon."
"So, you have become a paladin. I suppose it was your destiny."
"Hereafter, you have my complete trust."
"Freeded from Darkness, you now shine as brilliantly as the sun!
Elder: Unbelievable! You've succeeded!
Porom: Sir Cecil fought brilliantly.
Palom: I'll say. He passed with flying colors.
Cecil: Come again?
Elder: Forgive me. I assigned them to spy on you.
Me: I suppose that's better than spying for Golbez.
Palom: That pretty much sums it up.
Porom: I feel awful having deceived you. I'm so sorry.
Me: It doesn't really feel like spying to me.
Cecil: I had suspected that was why. I deserved it, after what I did...
Elder: The most important thing is that you have become a paladin and have rid yourself of the darkness you once held. ...That sword...! Where did you obtain it?
Cecil: It was given to me on the mountain's peak.
Elder: Is this...? Yes, it is! This sword holds the words of an ancient Mysidian legend!
Cecil: A legend?
Cecil: The light at Ordeals called me "Son." What was that light?
Elder: You ask a valid question, to which I do not know the answer. The legent has never been unveiled. For generations, we Mysidians have been told to pray for the fulfillment of this legend and to believe in the one with the scared light. Perhaps you might be the one.
Tellah: Enough chatter! We must go and defeat Golbez!
Elder: Tellah?
Tellah: It's been a while.
Porom: We met him on Mt. Ordeals.
Palom: And guess what? The old man learned to cast Meteor!
Elder: What!? Meteor, the legendary spell, unsealed? What is happening to this world...?
Tellah: I care not about the world's troubles. I solely wish to avenge Anna!
Elder: Anna, your daughter?
Tellah: Golbez took her life. And I shall use Meteor to slay him.
Elder: Tellah, you must not fight with hatred. Moreover, you are in no condition to use Meteor.
Tellah: If I die, so be it! Golbez must die at any cost!
Elder: Still stubborn as a mule, I see.
Tellah: Ha! Like you're one to talk.
Elder: Nevertheless, with your spells and Cecil's newfound power, you may be able to defeat Golbez.
Cecil: In any case, we must first return to Baron to commandeer an airship first.
Elder: Very well. I shall grant you access to the Devil's Road. As a paladin, I am certain you can safely travel the bedeviled path. Now it is time for me to retire to the Tower of Worship. I shall pray for your success.
Cecil: We thank you.
Elder: Palom, Porom, return to your studies.
Porom: Elder, please allow us to accompany him.
Palom: Yeah, you're the one who said we should help him any way we can.
Elder: ...Very well. You have both overcome the trials of Ordeals and returned alive. Perhaps this is your fate. Please look after them.
Cecil: But, I...uh...
Palom: Are you saying you don't want us tagging along?
Porom: I'm sure we can still be of assistance.
Tellah: Don't worry, old friend. I will look after them.
Cecil: Very well, so be it. I'm counting on all of you.
Palom: Alright!
Porom: Palom, this isn't going to be some kind of picnic.
Elder: The entrance to the Devil's Road lies to the east of this town. Palom, Porom, train well and return safely. Good luck to you all.
*heads to Devil's Road, but pauses and decides to stock up first*
*is also starting to lose a bit of hope about seeing Rydia again so I buy another another ice rod*
*also sells off my old Dark Knight gear, including the Dark Swords, and is quite sad to see them go*
*discovers the Ice Rod does not stack*
*buys a Light Helm, a Knight's Armor, and Gauntlets for Cecil, boosting his Defense to 35*
*buys a Silver Armlet for Tellah, boosting his defense to 12 and his third stat to 12*
*also changes his staff out for a Healing Staff as it boosts his attack the highest, to 13*
*sells off the Leather Garb and clothes I have*
*stocks up on all healing items I can*
*ends the shopping spree with just 5,531 gil*
*enters Devil's Road*
The camera keeps panning left. I thought I would be walking myself the whole way.
*camera changes direction to the North, to Baron*
Hmm... Am I am able to exit this sealed room?
*door opens automatically as I approach*
*steps back onto the magic circle and discovers to my delight that I can return to Mysidia*
Now I can either go down some steps or go out the door... Hmm...
*tries the door*
*exits out into the streets of Baron*
*hurries back inside, just in case*
*finds that the training room is downstairs and exits back outside into Baron and starts talking to random civilains*
"Why is the king torturing us like this? He must have gone mad!"
"Do not defy the king, or you will end up like Cid"
Uh oh...
Rosa's Mother: Where's Rosa? She left Baron to look for you!
Me: I was not aware she was here...
"There was a strange monk with the soldiers at the inn. It seems they were trying to uncover something."
A monk? Hmm... Perhaps...
"I wonder if that dark knight from before really died like everyone said. I liked him."
"That building over yonder on the west side leads to an old waterway that goes all the way to the castle. But I reckon it's always locked."
*finds an hourglass, tent, in a pond*
Sid's Daughter: Cecil, you're alive! Have you seen my father? he left for the castle days ago and still hasn't returned.
Well the only place left is the Inn...
*enters and spends about two minutes hunting down the girl at the front door*
"This place is always filled with scary soldiers, so not many people come here anymore."
He's alive! And I've forgotten his name! Only where's Rydia...
"The soldiers are all rowdy and act like they own the place!"
"Cid is trapped in the castle! But I heard he hit a state-of-the-art airship before he was caught!"
That's an excellant tip.
*speaks to the soldiers at the table*
"Where's my drink!? What are you looking at!?"
They both have the same response so...
Cecil: Yang!
Yang: ?
Cecil: It's me, Cecil!
Yang: Cecil... Baron's knight turned traitor. Seize him!
Me: What!
Guard: Yes, sir!
Hmm... I suspect that there is more to this situation than what meets the eye.
Down went Palom...
*wins*
Cecil: Yang! What are you doing!?
Yang: You insolent wretch!
Hmm... This isn't good...
*Remembers I can cast Life with Porom and revives Palom*
*Porom soon falls*
Hmm... Something doesn't quite seem right. I've dealt hugely massive amounts of damage, yet he hasn't fallen yet. Either he has his own stats for this battle, or I'm supposed to lose.
*just remembered a thing called Phoenix Down*
*notes that Scan isn't returning anything*
*instructs Cecil to defend, which has no affect on the battle*
*notes that spells like Toad are also not working*
*decides to try death and holds space*
*the game overscreen reveals that I wasn't supposed to die*
Oh hey, I won.
Yang: I cannot remember anything.
Tellah: Obviously, you suffered a slight case of amnesia and were being used by Baron.
Cecil: Where are Rydia and Edward?
Yang: Rydia was...swallowed by Leviathan.
Me: *is speechless*
Cecil: !
Yang: Edward... ...I don't know.
Me: I don't care about him.
Yang: Where are we?
Cecil: In Baron. Let's go elsewhere so we can discuss everything in private.
Yay, you're back... but Rydia...Losing her mother, being assaulted by a giant octopus, and now eaten by a sea monster. Not exactly a very happy series of events...
Inn Keeper: Thanks for taking care of those soldiers. You're more than welcome to spend the night here.
*the team takes up residence in the sleeping room*
Cecil: Yang, this is Tellah. His daughter and Edward were...
Tellah: My daughter loved him enough to scrifice her life for him.
Yang: I am sorry for your loss. I am Yang of Fabul.
Palom: I'm the prodigy of Mysidia! My name's Palom.
Porom, who has claimed a bed while everyone else is standing in a circle: Feel free to ignore my twin brother. I am Porom:[/b]
Palom: I can't believe you were oblivious to so much!
Porom: Palom! Apologize!
Yang: No, he is right. Forgive my actions.
Cecil: Well, first things first. We have to find Cid.
Tellah: Sneaking into the castle won't be easy.
Yang: Hm? What is this?
Cecil: This is the Baron Key! Of course! They must've given it to you when they gave you command of those guards. With this key, I believe we'll be able to find Cid.
Me: Gotta love the security in Baron. Private Enemy #1 is just walking around town and through his friend, now has access to the castle.
*the game flashes the message "Obtained Baron Key." at me as if I wasn't able to figure it out myself*
*everyone gets into one bed, sleeps, and I wake up the next morning*
So this is the door that the Baron Key opens. As a civilain revealed a while ago, this leads to a waterway that leads to the Castle. Supposedly.
This doesn't seem like an easy walk to the castle...
*discovers from Scan that I've wrongly equiped my guys for this*
Apparently I need to gear my team for Ice attacks. So I'll give Yang his Ice Claws and take back hi-
Wha... I could have sworn that I gave him Thunder Claw back at Fadul. And gave him some good armor. Did he kick it all off in the seas?
*gives him the Ice Claw, a Feathered Cap, and an Iron Ring, boosting his defense to 17 and the third stat to 6*
*takes Palom's Fire Rod and gives him an Ice Rod, reducing his attack by 2 to 12*
*elects to continue with these modifications to my team as opposed to returning to Mysidia to pick up more armor*
I suppose that this is a good place for a cache.
Let's see, from left to right, Hi-Potion, Ether, Rage of Zeus.
So this is primarily a healing cache.
Alright, those are some ugly fish now. Well let's try using Ice.
*finds that doesn't do much good against these fish*
*Scan reveals they are vurnable to projectile weapons*
*also learns the hard way that Electric attacks heal these fish*
Hmm.... I wonder if I should equip someone with a bow and arrow.
*Cecil levels up*
So this is B3, which I apparently have to wade though the water.
*Cecil again levels up, along with Palom, and Porom*
Yup, not easy. I know the gator is weak to ice, but the Hydra is new to me completely and the flood worm is redeco of a previous monster, but could have different weakeness.
Scan reveals Hydras don't like Lightning. And that Flood Worms don't like it either. That said, Thunder doesn't huge amounts of damage.
*finds an Hourglass*
*finds Spider's Silk*
*finds Hermes' Shoe*
*Cecil and Yang level up*
B2 looks much better kept.
Oh because, guards start patrolling here.
*Porom is defeated, Cecil is cursed with Mini and Pig*
*accidently wastes Tellah's MP while trying to heal Cecil with Mini*
*conviently finds an Ether*
I was going to use that Ether, but I wanted to check if there was a a safe room on B1. Turns out there was, just go through that door on the right. I've already rested up.
Alright, I'm ready to kick some ass and disregard names!
*discovers I'm at the back of the castle*
I'm pretty sure the jump into the moat would not be fatal, thus allowing an enemy to storm the castle here.
*hits F2 and explores the Castle, even though I think I remember where the dungeon is*
*starts with my tower*
*to my amusement, I am able to sleep in my bed*
I would have though they stripped the tower.
*finds the Dunegon anyway and...*
It's deserted... Hmm... There doesn't seem to be anyone else around either, not even in the Red Wing's Barracks. This is raising quite a few red flags....
*enters the main castle*
I've been spotted...!
Baigan: So good of you to return.
Me: I don't like you. I don't trust you. I want to kill you.
Cecil: Baigan, you too...?
Baigan: Is something the matter?
Cecil: You serve Golbez as well?
Baigan: Never! As captain of the Royal Guards, my loyality lies with Baron.
Cecil: Where is Cid? I heard he was confined in the castle.
Baigan: I, too, have attempted to find him, but my men and I were attacked and I was the only one to survive...
Cecil: I see. Then you must join us.
Baigan: It would be an honor to join you.
Me: I still don't like you. I still don't trust you. I don't believe you. I still want to kill you.
*Baigan officially joins the party, but then*
Palom: Something's wrong.
Porom: Yes. I sense danger.
Baigan: What!? Like...a...monster?
Palom: Oh, give me a break, mister.
Porom: Sire, no disrepect, but that acting of yours is about as subtle as a crutch.
Me: I don't really like the children. I trust the children.
Cecil: Baigan! You'd also betray Baron!?
Baigan: Golbez's wishes are Baron's wishes. He granted a wonderful power to me. Observe!
...just a thought, is Fran involved?
*pulls out all the stops, hoping I will be able to sleep in my bed afterwords*
So max power has ended up hurting Cecil due to Reflect. This pretty much rules out offensive magic.
*Baigan's arms regenerate*
Fuck...
Oh. I've won. He finally fell after repeated attacks from Cecil and Yang. Hard to say what happened more though, healing or attacking.
I actually stopped worrying about Palom when he fell since he was otherwise useless.
Oh yeah, his arms blow up. Thus leaving only Cecil and Yang alive. But hey, I got 3,000 gil and 2420 EXP.
*Cecil levels up and learns Cura*
Weren't you two knocked out?
Cecil: Even Baigan, who seemed so loyal...
Me: Um, Cecil, I don't think he was loyal to begin with in this game.
*heals up in my bed and heads through the main doors*
*finds nothing interesting appart from the gate guards telling me to leave, apparently finding nothing gravely wrong with my appearance behind them*
*checks the research labs and finds them empty too*
*heads to the throne room*
??? Why is he here?
King: Cecil, you have returned! I am glad to see that you are safe.
Cecil: Thank you.
King: I see you have become a paladin. Paladins are of little use; a dark knight would be more useful to us.
Cecil: Your Majesty...?
King: Your who? Oh, you must mean the old duffer who refused to surrender this kingdom. Hahaha, I must say I've enjoyed impersonating him.
Cecil: What have you done with the king!?
King: You'll see him soon enough. Oh, and give my regards to Scarmiglione if you run into him in the netherworld. That weakling never deserved to be one of the four Elemental Lords. The rest of us are more powerful than him.
Cecil: Then you are...!?
Oh my...
I am so glad I healed up....
I take this to mean that my damage is halved.
Wha.... no. There has to be more.
*Cecil, Palom, and Porom level up*
*someone shouts "You swine!"
"...Eh?"
Me: Hello!
Cecil: Cid!
Cid: Cecil? You're alive! You had me worried!
Cecil: I'm sorry...
Cid: Where's Rosa!? She went after you, convinced that you were still alive.
Cecil: Golbez has taken her...
Cid: What!? How could you let that happen? First my airship, now my Rosa!
Tellah: And she's still in trouble, so stop your jabbering and take us to your airship!
Cid: Who is this snippy octogenarian?
Me: According to Google, that's a person who is from 80 to 89 years old.
Tellah: I could say the same thing to you!
Cid: What!? I'm half your age, and then some!
Porom: Please! This is not the time. Sir, this is the great Sage Tellah. This is Master Yang, the high monk of Fabul. I am Porom, an apprentice mage from Mysidia.
Palom: So now we'll have another geezer on board.
Porom: That repulsive brat is my twin brother, Palom.
Palom: You goody two-shoes!
Yang: Pleased to meet you.
Cid: Well, you sure are mannerly fellow.
Cecil: Cid, where is your new airship?
Cid: Heh heh. Where nobody would suspect.
Tellah: We must hurry! Rosa's life is in danger!
Cid: I know, I know! You don't have to shout, we're not deaf like you. Everyone, follow me!
"You have defeated me, but you have not heard the last of Cagnazzo. Now join me in the netherworld!"
The entire screen is shaking.
Cid: It's locked!
Tellah: This side is locked, too!
YES, THE WALLS ARE GOING TO SQUISH US
Palom: I guess there's only one thing to do.
Me: Fill the room with water!
Porom: Cecil, I'm glad we were able to become friends.
Tellah: What are you going to do!?
Palom: We're not going to let you die!
Porom: We thank you for everything you've taught us, Sage Tellah.
Palom: Ready?
Porom: Yes!
I think we should let them do it. The Alternative is being squished.
Palom & Porom: Break!
"Porom!"
Tellah: Hold on! Esuna!
"The spell has no effect, as the twins have become stone of their own will."
Tellah: You fools! I am an old man! It was my duty, not yours!
Yang: Forgive me, you two...
Tellah: I will avenge you both. I swear to it!
Cid: It's time for some payback! To the Enterprise!
Cecil: I'll get you... ...Golbez!
*meanwhile*
Kain: Sire, regarding the last Crystal...
Golbez: I know. That place remains a problem.
Kain: Then, by all means, let's have Cecil get it for us.
Golbez: Hmm...
Kain: I'm certain he will comply. After all, we have Rosa. We can exchange her for the last Crystal.
Golbez: A primitive idea, but it just might work. And I will destroy him at the time of exchange.
Kain: I shall go to convey your terms to him.
Rosa: Kain!
Kain: Rosa, you'll see soon enough that I am superior to Cecil.
Cid: It's been here all along!
*Cid leads the team down a hidden passenge to deep underground cavern that holds Enterprise*
Yang: Amazing...
Cid: Ain't she a beaut? Let's get the Enterprise on-line!
Cecil: Wait!
Yang: What is that?
Tellah: It's a white flag.
Kain: Heh! So you're still among the living.
Cid: Kain! You little maggot!
Cecil: Where's Rosa!
Kain: If you want her back, bring me the Earth Crystal.
Cecil: What!?
Tellah: You shameless dog!
Kain: I will come to you once you have the Crystal in your possession. And if Rosa means anything to you, you'll get that Crystal.
Yang: Why, you...!
Cecil: Wake up, Kain!
Kain: I have nothing else to say to you.
Yang: Cecil.
Cid: That dirty scumbag.
Cecil: Cid, set a course northwest...to Troia.

Re: Let's Play Final Fantasy IV
There was a weapon shop that you could access with the key. Also I'd recommend poking around the world a bit first.
And I love how you keep on forgetting pretty much everyone's name.
And I love how you keep on forgetting pretty much everyone's name.
- Battle Primer - Baigan:
HP: 4444 (Main) 444 (Arms)
Strength: 58
Defense: 1 (Main) 2 (Arms)
Magic Defense: 11 (Main) 0 (Arms)
Baigan's arms can use Vampire, which inflicts Sap, and Entangle, which can paralyze. Defeating both of them will make Baigan regenerate them, and if they act again after Baigan dies, they blow up.
Baigan himself isn't too complicated - he casts Haste on himself and starts wailing on you. If you cast a spell on him, though, he casts Reflect. Seeing as your party is currently 3/5ths mages, you might want to get around that, and here's how: grind Palom up to level 36, where he learns Quake. Quake deals non-elemental damage to all enemies, and thus pierces Reflect. Alternatively, if level 36 is too far away and you don't like to grind (Tellah doesn't have the spell for whatever reason), you can instead use Tellah (Porom gets the spell at level 31) cast Reflect on someone and bounce spells off of that person. (Reflected spells don't reflect again.)
- Battle Primer - Cagnazzo:
HP: 4000
Strength: 44
Defense: 2
Magic Defense: 48
Weak: Ice, Lightning
Cagnazzo has killed the king of Baron, meaning it's really good Cecil changed classes - the King was a Dark Knight, too, and he was probably more of a badass then Cecil.
The first image is Cagnazzo when he's just hitting you. If you were playing the DS version, only ice would strike his weakness then, but here both ice and lightning do the job.
The second image is when he's planning to cast Tsunami. Tsunami hurts. What are you supposed to do against it? Strike him down with lightning! (Any level Thunder spell will do, I believe, but why not hit him with all you got?) In the DS version, his weakness shifts to lightning, which would make it a good idea even if he wasn't going to smite your ruin upon the castleside.
The last image is when he turtles up. Get it? 'Cause he's a - anyway. It doesn't seem his defense increases, but he'll start using Restore, which heals him for a tenth of his max HP (i.e. 400). He's on his last legs by now, so finish him!
- Character Primer - Cid:
Command Abilities:
Attack
Peep/Scan
Item
Equip: Axes, bows, hammers, heavy armor
Cid is awesome. Story-wise, anyways. Battle-wise, he's kinda meh. Perfect target for Berserk, if that's any consolation. Peep/Scan is basically Libra for free, which would be nice if the character who doesn't always have to be in the party doesn't have actual!Libra, has nothing else to do with his MP (besides a token Cure), and it didn't cost 1 MP anyway. But I digress! Cid hits like a tank and takes hits like a tank. Which is good, because most, if not all, of his weapons are two-handed, meaning he'll pretty much, if not, always take his hits due to a lack of shield.
Fun fact: since II, there is a Cid in every Final Fantasy (and retroactively added in I on the GBA). This one was the first to be playable, and no Cid would be again until VII's Cid Highwind.
