Re: Let's Play Final Fantasy IV
*unearths thread and dumps lots of paint remover on it*
- Part 21: Back by Popular Demand:
So apparently people than Lief were following me. Had
I known that, I probably would've made more of an
effort to continue. So..... uh.... where was I?
Oh yeah, Drawf Castle, home of the drawfs. In the
middle of Hell. Fuck you Cid flying into the middle of
the crossfire like a dumbass, causing us to crash land
here.
Now what was it I was supposed to do? It was to go
somewhere, but I don't know where. Or really why.
*goes outside and heads North because that's the only
option*
Welcome to Fire Armadillo Country. They aren't very
tough, a hit from Kain took out one while Cecil killed
the other.
So I've noticed that Rosa is fighting with bows and
arrows. This is somewhat expensive for the amount of
damage she's doing, which is to say very little.
I'll give Rosa the Healing Staff I have on hand,
changing her stats to 21, 25, 16.
*Yang levels up*
So..... I've gone as far north as I can and now I'm
unable to go much further because we're too fat to fit
through here. So I kind have no choice but to
backtrack.
Wow.... Isn't that like a super rare drop or somethin?
*examins my party for the best fit and finds that Kain
already has a Mythril Shield*
And Cecil's Fire Shield matches it's strength. So it's
not as useful as I thought. Damn.
So this is the only other path I can take, to my
knowledge anyway.
Of course it's a dead end.....
*heads back to the Castle looking for another way*
Welp no plan right now but to wander the world for a
solution.
*Cecil levels up*
*Kain levels up shortly thereafter*
Rydia looks adorable when she's badly injured.
*finds another Mythril Shield so time later*
Apparently not as rare of a drop as I thought. Also
I'm starting to think I need to go back to the Castle
to proceed.
This is looking more promising. This is behind a
bookcase near the fat chocobo god thing.
I love how I just spent 600 gil at the inn when I
could've just drunk this water.
So after exiting the base, I turned to the west and
then North. I've been walking for a while now and the
girls are showing the strain... On the plus side Rosa
leveled up and learned Dispel, whatever that does.
Friendly? Friendly? Frieeendly?
Friendly?
*explosion*
Friendly! :D
Something is boiling below me and I'm not sure if it's
lava, meat, or poo. Also I'm not quite sure what's gonna happen here or what I'm gonna do here. Probably kill things, lots of things, indiscriminately.
Cool. Probably useless though.
*finds more*
These fire hounds suck... I should probably change out Cecil's sword, but at the same time the only other sword I have is the Sword of Legend, which cuts Cecil's attack by quite a bit.
*Rydia levels up in a subsquent battle*
*then obtains Ether*
*then Yang levels up*
The chest has a Green Beret. Is it helpful? Eh kinda, but it also takes away magical defense and it was Fire magic from those hounds that wrecked my party.
So many choices... I'll start with the lowest of the three.
I have a bad feeling about this. I feel like halfway dead, some monsterous monster is gonna hatch from that egg. I was right in front of a chest too, it is probably a scripted event.
Here it comes....
*lost the image*
Well that's a letdown. Here I'm expecting something like a troll, nope it's a lizard. Also sweet action shot of Kain and his Drawf Axe. Or at least it was a sweet shot except I overwrote the image. Dammit.
Ah shit.
How tough are you!
WOAH, Now we might have a problem.
Go, Go, Mist Dragon!
*only does 179 damage*
Fuck.
*Yang finishes the fight with a Power Punch*
*has won an Ice Brand*
Perhaps this is the weapon I need for Cecil!
Oh yes.
I have a sense of Deja vu. This is the middle room.
So no monster egg, but I've got another eye to deal with.
Different monster this time. Uh.... I suppose brute force is gonna be the answer.
And it was :D If violence isn't solving your problems, you're simply not using enough of it
*Cecil levels up*
Got an Ice Lance! Kain's attack boosts to 93, but his defense falls slightly to 44.
Third floor. That chest under the label holds a.... Cat Claw? Sometimes causes Sleep... Doesn't change the stats.... Eh, might as well.
*finds a Hi-Potion in another chest*
*Kain later levels up*
*soon finds a Pheonix Down*
Now I will say I'm having a problem with item space, that is to say I don't have much left. In fact I hardly have any left.
Interesting... But right now I'm not too keen to have Rosa be an archer. I primarily rely on the guys to do the job of killing. I generally only use Rosa out of battle to heal up the party.
*trades my Diet Food for the Bow anyway*
Also I'm on the Fourth Floor now, there are two ways to the Fourth Floor, this part mostly having items.
*discards an Antarantic Wind I find in another chest*
*sigh*
Here we go again....
Only a Naga?
*gets an Ice Shield*
Gotta trade out the Dwarven Bread. I've equipped it to Cecil and his stats didn't change.
I've been ambushed! By an Egg!
*Kain scrambles the egg before it can hatch*
*finds the healing pad and heals up*
And here's where I'm going to call it a part. When will the next one come out? I dunno, depends on how motivated I am and right now I'm not very motivated.

Re: Let's Play Final Fantasy IV
Hey, without Cid, you couldn't even be here.
Also, I'd like to make a small note about the Security Eye and Mystery Egg enemies. The Security Eye waits until you attack it to summon a monster, meaning you can apply any buffs beforehand (e.g. Focus) and kill it. The Mystery Egg hatches into a Black Lizard, Lamia, Nagaraja, or Green Dragon after enough time passes, but if you're lucky enough you can kill the Egg before that happens.

*is disappointed that despite all the hype and cheer, I didn't get a single like*
Am I not being funny enough? Is some huge problem that I'm not aware of? Did I do or allude to something that is so horribly disturbing that it's unbearable to think of? Or do we just not hand out likes on Let's Plays anymore?

Re: Let's Play Final Fantasy IV
- Part 22: If Violence isn't solving your problems, you're not using enough of it.:
So I'm presently motivated enough to start the part on Friday 12+1. Actually didn't realize what it was today and so far it's actually been a pretty good day. Found a missing bolt, discovered and returned a lost passport, and won a $5 giftcard.
Though it just occured to me that I don't remember putting the wheel speed sensor back in on that Xterra I was working on. Fuck, I did have it dangling over the top of the rotor so I wouldn't forget it.... I hope I didn't crush it while putting the tires back on. Or that it has been ground into nothing against the rotor and rim as I did move the vehicle twice today. Maybe my teacher did tell me he put it back in for me, but I now need to check Tuesday morning. I don't recall seeing the ABS light coming on while driving it as it should if the sensor isn't functioning right, then again when you're driving, you're supposed to look at the road, not the dash.
Anyway, back to this thing but now I'm worried...
I have a sense of Deja Vu around this place. I feel like there's going to be a major engagement over near that door.
*Rosa levels up after Kain one-hits an egg*
Okay... apparently no boss battle on this floor.
And this floor has even more holes....
There's Arctic Wind in the chest, but I can't pick it up.
*finds a Hi-Potion on the other end of the floor*
So.... I've already become aware there's another floor to the tower. So I bet there's a puzzle of some kind, or a key. Perhaps it'll be unlocked by a boss-battle.
*Yang Levels Up*
This combo is extremely common on this floor. Worse still it's annoying. Those White Mus are hard to take out, I have a type mismatch in just about everyone. Meanwhile the Chimera absorbs HP from Fire, Frost, and Lightning attacks. Rydia's Titan gets the job done quick, but is expensive at 40 MP.
Scan says the Chimera has no weaknesses, but the Mus are weak to Frost. Yet the equipment I have equipped is hardly doing anything to these guys. Lovely....
Oh yeah did I mention the drawn out battles are hard on the HP?
Also Both Rydia and Cecil leveled up from this battle, with Rydia learning Osmose.
So let's get things done...
So I see how it's gonna work, it's one of those things that has you from floor to floor through a complicated series of doors.
*finds Dry Ether*
*loots a Hi-Potion*
Welcome to the 8th floor.
*loots Posion Arrows, then dumps them*
Okay, apparently this isn't going down the way I expected. Boss battle time I think, but whose the doctor?
Rubicante: Not to worry. Eblan has been decimated along with its ninjas. Take care of things until I return.
Rubicante, the last of the Elemental Lords if I remember correctly, was standing on that orb before being teleported away.
*Docter dances all over the place*
This is treachory, Starscream.
Rydia: What's with him?
Rosa: Shhh.
You're so self-absorbed that you didn't notice 5 guys standing just feet behind you? How pitful, should've just shot you in the back.
Cecil: !
Doctor: Cecil! How did you up here!?
Me: By default actually, couldn't go anywhere else.
Kain: Caught you at a bad time, eh? With Rubicante away, what are you going to do?
Doctor: How dare you disrespect me! Fools! I may not be an Elemental Lord, but I, Dr. Lugae, am the brains of Golbez's operation! On my honor, I will protect this tower!
Me: By mandate of the world, I will slaughter you!
Kain: That's a laugh!
Doctor: I've heard enough out of you! My great creation will shut you up soon enough!
And of course I'm not at full health or MP for this... So the guys will do their genertic whailing, though Cecil is gonna do a scan first, not that I expect to return anything. Rydia is going to throw magic at the thing, and Rosa will be casting healing spell after healing spell.
Also I feel like I should first focus on killing the doctor.
*has Kain jump on him*
Doctor: Barnabas, attack!
Barnabas: Grrr!
*Barnabas strikes Doctor**
Doctor: Yeow! You big oaf! Over there, go beat them up!
Barnabas: Grrr!
Well now....
Doctor: Show no mercy!
*instructs Yang do a power punch on the robot*
*has Rydia summon the Titan*
*has Kain do another jump*
Doctor down, Doctor down! Also I'm trying black magic with Rydia now. This could backfire horribly, but I'll use electricity.
WOAH! He cried out for oil and then blew up... This sounds like a familiar story to someone in the automotive industry. Also he did absolutely flatten Rydia with the force of the blast, as she was hit with over 800 in damage.
So while everyone else falls flat on their faces as if they slipped, Rydia curls into the fetal position...
Of course he's not dead yet, nobody ever dies that easy in this universe :I
And I'm entering a battle of unknowns without my most favored scoricer.
Dr. Lugae: No more games!
Awww crap, he used sleeping gas on Rosa....
And now he transformed into this thing.
Goddammit, now everyone is poisoned except for the dead one.
Kain died after reviving Rydia.
I'm confused.... what happened to everyone's status. Did he heal us? Is he that overconfident that he feels th need it easy against us?
*goes for broke on Rydia and summons the Titan*
*is forced to go for the beatdown option after the Titan fails to deliver a knock-out blow*
Well that was an annoying battle. I hope there's not a round three, or I'll lose it...
Oh yeah, I needed to get through a locked door.
*tosses an alarm clock to take the key*
Doctor: You're too late. The Tower of Babel connects the underworld and the overworld, and Rubicante has already taken all the Crystals to the surface. The dwares will be annihilated with my cannons! Victory is mine! Mwahahaha!
*the doctor disappears in a weird portal like thing*
Rydia: The dwarves are in danger!
Me: And we can't save them if we're almost dead :I
Yang: We've got to stop the cannons!
Kain: What are we waiting for? Let's go!
Me: We're waiting for a heal up.
Phew, made it alive. So while the party rests, I'll call it a part here.

Re: Let's Play Final Fantasy IV
- Boss Primer - Doctor + Barbaras:
Barbaras:
HP: 4832
MP: 302 (which pretty much exists only to be Osmosed by Rydia)
Strength: 86
Magic: 31 (which pretty much exists only to look pretty)
Defense: 1
Magic Defense: 11
Weakness: Hammers
Doctor:
HP: 4936
MP: 308
Strength: 18
Magic: 0
Defense: 0
Magic Defense: 11
Abilities: Panacea (restores 500 HP and removes negative status)
The battle's pretty straightforward. You can either kill Barnabas first and deal with another boss:
or beat up the doctor first and get more EXP, at the cost of Barnabas blowing up in someone's face. Really, someone's going to get blown up either way, so you might as well beat up the Doctor first.
After that, through the power of plot and/or the fact that Lugae's a full-blown nutjob - the kind of man that makes the Joker still look insane, but at a relatively subdued level - Lugae transforms into a new boss. This isn't preventable, so again, might as well beat up the Doctor first.
- Boss Primer - Doctor Lugae:
HP: 9321
MP: 582
Strength: 86
Magic: 7
Defense: 1
Magic Defense: 11
Evasion: 50
EXP: 10101
Skills: Laser, Poison Gas, Flamethrower, Beam, Heal
Weakness: Hammers
With a face even a mother couldn't love, Dr. Lugae transforms into an even uglier version. Revealing his robotic body allows him to use skills such as flamethrowers and lasers and beams. Laser deals more damage the higher Lugae's HP is, while Beam deals 10% of a single member's max HP. Flamethrower is Fire. Heal...heals the party (of status ailments).
When the battle starts, he uses Poison Gas, poisoning the party. He then cycles between Beam, Laser, Flamethrower, and Heal, in that order. He counters with Sleeping Gas to a random party member unless he gets hit by a summon.
He's also a pain in the ass in the DS version because he has Reversal Gas - a move that reverses healing and damage for everyone. "Reverse" can only be healed with another dosage of Reversal Gas. He casts Reversal Gas randomly. Thank god you're playing the 2D version.
