About using electricity... I don't think I ever tried using Thunder. So now the world will never know if Thunder or the Chocobo does more damage.

Re: Let's Play Final Fantasy IV
Well it has a good chunk of Magic Defense and Chocobo is, while a low level summon, still a summon, which deals a good chunk of damage. So.

You can safely look at artwork for all other party members, by the way. It was just Rydia's that had a spoiler, iirc.

I doubt that I'll need art for this next part.

Re: Let's Play Final Fantasy IV
I've started to get a bit bored of my new trains (or maybe just Scotland), so I'm somewhat reluancently continuing this. At the same time I'm also watching Ouran High School Host Club.
- Part 9: I should start expecting the unexpected:
So uh, I go into the waterfall?
Ah yes. Now I presume I head North since that seems to be the only option for the moment. Hopefully a town isn't too far away and that everyone's clothes dry out quickly. After all, one sick person is bad enough. I hate for the other two to fall ill as well.in
*finds it to be even closer than I had hoped, but...*
Wait a second, what's happening!?! Is it raiding Party from Baron!?
OH SWEET MOTHER OF DUNSPACH, EVEN WORSE!!! THEY'RE BOMBERS!!!
Well I believe there's only one acceptable course of action... Enter the remains of the castle and search for survivors...
Also I can't shake a nagging feeling that I'm somehow partically responsible for this... Maybe those bombers were trying to nail me...
Damcyan Castle... Somehow the destroyed enterance reminds me of bombing raids from World War II. Also I'm concerned about whatever is hiding behind this info box...
Oh... a fatality... If I could, I would cover their head out of respect.
When I started this part, I expected to reach town, find the dwarf and the old man's daughter, and set off for the Sand Ruby. Clearly this isn't the case. And I fear both are already dead... That's assuming they are here in the first place.
*enters the first floor of Damcyan Castle*
Oh this one is still alive, but barely. So this was a raid.
Another Guard on Death's Doorstep: The bombardment was too much.
So that's two dead, two seriously injured now.
*goes up to the second floor*
Interesting, they didn't loot that one chest over there.
*finds a tent in it*
Well that's not extremely valuable to an army. Now for these soldiers...
Soldier 2: The bombardment was too much.
Soldier 3: The healing pots... upstairs... I must...
Casualties are now 4 dead, 4 seriously injured.
*goes up to the third floor*
I can tell something major is happening because he and Rydia appeared.
*Tellah dashes over to his daughter*
*A man runs in from the right*
Tellah: You! You're that bard! Anna ran away because of your treachery!
*Tellah advances on the bard, who takes a few steps back while Tellah charges*
The old man is seriously pissed. And I love the chance I have here before me to kick this guys ass. I shall show no mercy! >:D
*discovers that I can't actually kick the guys ass, only watch*
*soon realizes there's dialalgue at the top and has to go back to my save point to start getting it all*
Tellah: You spoony bard!
Bard: No! Wait!
Tellah: Die!
Bard: P-Please! Listen!
Tellah: Shut up!
Bard: Forgive me! Please!
Tellah: Take this!
Me: Amusingly, right before he said that, he missed.
Bard: Agh!
Anna: Father! Stop!
Me: Plot Twist! The girl's alive and only says something when her father misses the bard after whacking him a couple times with his cane!
*battle ends*
Slipping this in so that you can see Anna's sprite.
*everyone gathers around Anna, which would probably make for a better screenshot but whatever*
Tellah: Oh, Anna! I'm so glad to see you again!
Anna: Father, Edward is the prince of Damcyan. Forgive me, Father, for running away...but I love Edward. Still, I knew I couldn't find happiness without your consent. I was on my way home when...
Me: Whoa... Tellah better be glad all the guards are incapaciated.
Sprite means he's important and kind of nessitates a screenshot here. Now I'm curious what going to happen now. Also when can I check on those soldiers?
Cecil: I've never heard of Golbex before. Who is he?
Me: I thought he was that advisor from part 1, but apparently not.
Edward: I don't know. All I know is that his powers were beyonds words.
Cecil: But why did they attack Damcyan?
Edward: They wanted the Crystal, and they spared no one to get it. My mother, my father...even Anna shielded me from their arrows.
Me: Isn't the guy supposed to protect the girl? Though I suppose with the recent push for equality, that is actually a good thing? I dunno.
Tellah: You love him enough to give up your own life...?
Anna: Father...forgive me... Edward...I love you...
Me: I notice she doesn't have a chatbox sprite... I feel like my suspisions about her fate is pretty much confirmed.
Edward: Anna!
Tellah: Anna!? Anna!
Tellha: Damn you, Golbez! Who is that monster, anyway!? What do you know about him!?
Me: I have a theory about who Golbez is... But I'm not saying anything for the moment.
Edward: He came to Baron one day and became the new leader of the Red Wings. He... *sob* He leads them in their mission to plunder the Crystals... *sniff*
Tellah: Stop your simpering! That won't bring Anna back! Golbez of Baron... I shall take his life with my own two hands!
*Tellah leaves his daughter's side to begin the hunt for her murderer, only to be stopped by Cecil*
Cecil: Tellah, wait! You can't possibly go alone!
*the mad man shoves Cecil out of the way, bent on only revenge*
Tellah: I will kill Golbez on my own. I don't need your help. I don't need anyone's help!
His magic will be sorely missed... But he is welcome back anytime. He just needs time to come back to his senses.
Edward: Anna! *sob*
Rydia: Stop crying! You're a grownup! You're not supposed to cry!
Me: I beg to differ little girl...
Rydia: I lost my mom, but I'm not gonna cry anymore.
Cecil: Rydia...
Edward: I don't care. Leave me alone! I'm starying here with Anna. I will never leave her side.
Me: I strongly recommend you bury her now before her body begins to rot.
*Cecil takes matters into his own hands and smacks the Prince in the back of the head like a boss*
Cecil: That's enough! You're not the rightful ruler of Damcyan, so start acting like it! You owe it to your people, and you owe it to Anna. Your Majest, my name is Cecil, and I need your help.
Edward: What?
Cecil: My friend is suffering from desert fever in Kaipo. I need to get the Sand Ruby to save her. Can you help me?
Edward: ...What is her name?
Cecil: Rosa.
Edward: She is very dear to you, isn't she? Like Anna was to me... You can find the Sand Ruby in the Antlion Cave, which lies to the east. The ruby forms from the fluid that the antlion secretes when it lays eggs.
Me:.....ew
Edward: We must cross the shallows with our hovercraft to reach the cave.
Me: I would have thought those would've been destroyed in the raid. I would most certainly make sure of it if I was in charge of the raid.
Edward: After we aquire the Sand Ruby, we can cross the shallows to reach Kaipo. Let us be on our way.
Looks like I'm getting character art afterall...- Spoiler:
*everyone leaves, but then Edward returns*
Edward: Goodbye, Anna...
*Anna then disappears and Edward leaves*
This must be the hovercraft.
*soon starts roaring with laughter because of the ending to episode 4 of Ouran High School Host Club*
So these rocky bits must be what are referred to as shallows.
Those squiggly bits look like mountain trails. I bet I can't actually use them though...
Or maybe I can? I just hit A and the craft landed and Cecil got out.
So is there something to stop me from proceeding?
Yup...
*gets back in the hovercraft*
Now I think this is our destination. And this seems as good a parking spot as any.
That blue chest is the first thing I noticed. I wonder what special about it.
*opens it upon finding the path*
And it has a potion! So it's just a recolored chest... Nothing more, nothing else.
So Level 5 King Edward... Uh... WTF really.
*tries Sing*
"Song of Enticement"
No idea what that did... *has Cecil steamroll the affected Goblin*
*gets Spider's Silk in another chest*
Oh my god... That is the ugliest Basilisk I've ever seen...
*decides to fight it with magic*
*Edward gets hit with Stone Gaze and then he apparently puts the Basilisk to sleep*
Holy Shit.
*Edward is targeted for most of the attacks*
*soon discovers Edward can heal everyone in the party*
*Edward also gains a level*
Edward functions in weird ways...
*finds a Tent and another Potion*
*wins another Potion in a battle against 4 Yellow Jellies that turn out to be weak against Thunder*
*Edward gains another level and I get an antidote*
This isn't the screenshot I wanted, but I've opted to take this one anyway because of the Domovoi. I'm guessing it's a Goblin leader of sorts? Or maybe a Dark Goblin?
Not much stronger than a regular Goblin. Also Cecil leveled up.
*soon finds a Gold Needle and a potion*
*descends into Antlion Cave B2*
I wonder what's behind that door...
*finds a single chest inside, with a Lamia Harp*
I wonder...
*checks its description*
"Harp that weaves a tempting melody"
Hmm... I was hoping it would give Rydia a Lamia summon, but instead it sounds like an equip item for Edward, based upon how he acts when I instruct him to attack. Which is to play a melody that inflicts damage.
Oh wow, it's a very good equip item that doubles his attack to 20.
*checks*
*Edward gains a level in the next fight*
*I soon find a potion,
This screenshot will have to do for what I wanted to talk about earlier. See the upper monster? It's called an Adamantoise and for some reason, Rydia will deal massive damage every time she hits it with her stick.
GODDAMMIT! I HATE THESE THINGS! THE ONLY THING THAT WORKS ON THEM IS THUNDER AND RYDIA IS NOW ALMOST OUT OF MP AND I CAN'T FLEE BECAUSE THE FUCKING GAME WON'T WORK PROPERLY!!!
*manages to flee*
Nevermind :D
*gets another potion later*
Found the rest point :D Now for what's in the chests...
Phoenix Down, Ether, and Emergency Exit....
*uses a tent*
So apparently Edward's Heal ability was using my potions... Goddammit. I did have a funny feeling while using it....
*Edward soon gains another level*
I suspect I'm gonna have to fight the Antlion.
*screen starts shaking*
Rydia: Eeek!
Edward: It's okay. Antlions are quite tame. They don't attack people. Here, I'll demonstrate by taking the Sand Ruby, like so...
*sigh* Here we go...
Cecil: Come on! We have to help him!
Oh man that is disgustingly ugly.
*notes that the thing likes to retailiate*
God... this has a lot of health...
CHOCOBO FOR THE WIN!!! AGAIN!!!
*obtains the Sand Ruby*
Edward: How could this happen? They've always been totally harmless.
Cecil: Monsters are rapidly multiplying these days, and their behavior is changing as well. I can't help but feel this is some kind of sign...
Rydia: Come on! Let's go cure Rosa!
Me: She seems quite chatty now. :hmmm:
Cecil: Right! Let's go!
*Edward gains a level in my next battle*
*Rydia soon gains a level and learns Stop*
*soon gets Echo Herbs from a battle*
All these bastards were trying to steal my hovercraft!!!
*destroys all of them with Dark and earns a potion*
Ahh, finally back in Kaipo. I suspect that healing Rosa will trigger quite a long cutscene, so I'm going to get some more items, and call this part here.
*buys 25 potions*
*buys 7 tents*
*accidently hits F4 instead of F2, sending me back to where I saved last night in Antlion Cave*

Re: Let's Play Final Fantasy IV
Rydia hits the Adamantoise For Massive Damage because she's using the Ice Rod, which is, surprisingly, ice-elemental. Also Baigan was the dick advising guy, Golbez is new to the story.
Also your artwork was of TAY Edward.
Anyway!
Also your artwork was of TAY Edward.
Anyway!
- Character Primer - Edward:
Command Abilities:
Attack
Sing
Salve
Hide
Item
Equip items: Bows, daggers, harps, light armor
Edward is, let's face it, kind of awful. He's a bard, meaning his attack abilities are pretty bad, obviously. But it's worse then that.
Sing can cause sleep, silence, confusion, or nothing, with a 25% chance of each happening. Sleep and confusion wear off when the enemy gets hit. Not too many enemies, at least now (iirc) use magic (like, actual magic, not enemy abilities, which aren't affected), and even if they did, that's a 25% chance to cause Silence, not to mention getting it to stick. If you use it while Edward's a Toad, it causes him to always sing a song that turns enemies into Toads which is...something, I guess. (Toad makes you unable to cast spells other than Toad and makes you attack like shit.)
Salve is the only thing Edward is good for - it uses one potion to heal the party. The potion healing is split up, yeah, but hey, it allows Rydia to nuke things! ...from what I can gather it only works with regular potions, you can't use it if you only have one potion left (but it still uses the potion) and if you have two stacks of potions it takes one from each stack. Thanks, Edward. (This command, among others, was removed in the original US SNES version...possibly because someone didn't like Edward.)
Hide, on the other hand, is Edward's most useless ability. It causes him to Hide... and then on the next turn you have to come out. (Or maybe skip, I can't remember if that ability was added.) The command window still shows, but you literally can't do anything. For added fun, he automatically hides if he gets low on health! Fun!
He starts becoming better stat-wise later, but he won't be sticking around for that long. It's a cruel joke pulled by the developers.
- Boss Primer - Antlion:
HP - 1100
Strength - 11
Defense - 3
Magic Defense - 11
The 3D remakes (i.e. iOS and DS versions) are more generous, giving Anty here a weakness to Ice and an ability to Toad him! Her! Whatever! Add the fact that Edward is significantly less useless in those versions, and it makes up for the added 900 HP and the nightmares you get.
Anyway, the Antlion is a simple battle. Here's the battle script in its entirety:
Turn 1 - Attack
If hit by any damaging attack, counters with - Counter Horn
Simple, no? It's so simple, the Final Fantasy Wiki recommends Edward hiding, Rydia summoning Chocobo, and Cecil attacking because he can take a hit. (No idea why Chocobo doesn't trigger the counter.) I'd recommend that Edward uses Potions or Salve to heal, though, if only so Rydia doesn't have to stop attacking and/or waste MP to heal Cecil.

Re: Let's Play Final Fantasy IV
- Part 10: The Bomb:
I'm surprised how long it took me to get back caught up to where I lost my progress. That is to say only like 10 minutes or so.
First things first, I've discovered that by pressing the L and R buttons, I can change my sprite without altering my party makeup.
Apparently they won't split up or change my sprite.
Oh, I have to manually give her the Sand Ruby. Let's see... where is it...
Or just expose her to the light of it. Now it seems considerably less gross of a healing device. I though I would have to hold it to her skin or something and considering what this thing is made out of (egg lubercating juices from an ugly thing that was supposed to be tame and harmless), that would be somewhat disgusting.
I don't think it worked because the room is all yellow.
*the room fades back to it's normal color*
Rosa: Cecil! You're alive! Thank goodness!
Cecil: How do you feel?
Rosa: I'm fine. But I thought I'd lost you. They told me you died in Mist when the earthquake hit.
Me: Hmmm.... I guess I shouldn't be surprised they lied to her. 'Cause for them to come after me before I knew she was here means they knew I was alive.
Cecil: I'm sorry to have put you through that... Rosa, who is Golbez?
Rosa: He's the new captain of the Red Wings, appointed by the king himself. But the king has been acting... strangely. I believe Golbex is manipulating him to collect the Crystals for himself. With Mysidia's Water Crystal in hand, he'll surely go after the others, which are the Fire Crystal of Damcyan, the Wind Crystal of Fabul, and the Earth Crystal of Troia.
Edward: The Fire Crystal has already fallen into his hands.
Cecil: Ah, let me introduce you. Edward is the prince of Damcyan. Rydia is a summoner from Mist. I wouldn't have been able to get the Sand Ruby and cure your fever without their help.
Rydia: Hi there.
Rosa: Hello, Rydia. Thank you both so much. Cecil, after Damcyan, Fabul must be their next target. We must... *cough cough*
Me: We must leave you behind to rest, while we proceed to Fabul. Speaking of which, how do we know they haven't already made it their or go after Troia first? Personally, I would attack them all one after another before they can react.
Cecil: You have to rest now. Don't worry. We'll go to Fabul.
Edward: But to reach Fabul, we must traverse Mt. Hobs, and the trail is blocked by thick ice.
Rosa: Rydia, can you cast Fire?
Rydia: ...No.
*Rydia turns away from Rosa and appears to sit down*
Rosa: Fire is the most elementary of black magic spells. As a summoner, you... *cough cough*
Cecil: Rosa, stop! You're not coming with us in that condition!
Rosa: I'll be alright, really. As a white mage, I promise I won't be a burden.
Edward: Rosa only wishes to be with you, Cecil.
*notices that Rydia has turned back to face Rosa, but doesn't know for sure when*
Cecil: ...Alright. We'll go together. Make sure you get plenty of rest tonight.
Rosa: ...I thank you.
Oh goodie...
Uh oh... Things may get a little messy...
Where do you think you're going?
I was worried he was about to betray me, but it just looks like he's still very upset over Anna's death...
Oh he's playing a song.
Edward: Anna, I miss you so much.
Who are you!
I suspect you're not really showing who you really are.
Wha...
Edward: A-Anna!
Ghost Anna: You must fight, Edward.
Ghost Anna: Believe in yourself.
*Ghost Anna disappears*
Edward: Anna...
My opponent: Gurghh
So strange...
Oh hi!
Edward: Anna!? This can't be!
Anna: I must leave this world... I must go on to a better place...
Edward: No! Don't go! I can't live without you!
*Anna floats off into the lake and is then covered by the text box*
Anna: You mustn't let Golbex have the Cyrstals. Fight for your people! Care for them as you did for me...
Me: Pardon the interuption, but does he still have anyone to rule over?
*Anna disappears, presumably passing on into the afterlife*
Edward: Yes, I'll do it! I'll fight! ...But how could I stop him? I don't know what I should do...
*everything fades to black*
To the hovercraft! I presume my next destination is Mt. Hobs.
*decides to stop at Damcyan Castle*
*finds no bodies, a tent, and....*
Survivors!
*touches the pot and is healed and removed of any status effects*
Interesting...
The Cloaked Man: We are the only survivors. Perhaps we should withdraw to Kaipo. If only we had a hovercraft to get us across the shallows to the west...
The Woman: I had planned to head across Mt. Hobs to Fabul, but the trail is blocked a thick wall of ice.
*discovers the other pot restores MP*
This is an ideal grinding spot. Hmm... should I stay and grind... or proceed? I'll proceed for now and kick myself in the butt later.
I have a suspicion that she knows fire, but chooses not to use it because of what happened in Mist.
Rydia: ...
Edward: What's wrong?
Me: My suspicisions appear to be correct.
Rosa: Give it a try. I know you can do it.
Rydia: ...No.
Rosa: ?
Rydia: I...I hate fire.
Cecil: That's right... Her village was destroyed by fire when...
Rosa: Rydia, you're the only one who can melt this ice.
Rydia: ...
Rosa: If we can't get through to Fabel, more people will be in danger. Please Rydia.
Edward: Rydia... You've helped me, you've helped Cecil, you've helped Rosa... and you have the power to help many more people. Please, we need your strength and courage.
Cecil: ...
Rydia: ...
Wow, that was a cool thing I couldn't possibly have captured.
Edward: Rydia, that was incredible.
Rydia: Hee hee!
Rosa: I knew you could do it!
Cecil: Thank you, Rydia.
And now we can proceed!
...Right into a party of skeletons. I'm assuming they can be considered undead, so Rosa might actually be useful.
*lost screenshot of my rather badly hurt crew*
Ouch... Those guys were tough. Thankfully Cecil is able to get off some semi decent damage on them. But for now, I want to head back to Damcyan Castle and heal up.
*Edward leveled up*
Are you fucking kidding me... this is not going to be an easy trip...
Uh oh... I think I'm gonna have to go grind for a while.- Everything notable from my grinding spree:
*someone soon learns Life*
*gains a tent, and a potion*
*discovers Rosa is also an Archer*
*backtracks to try upgrading her equipment*
*finds it'll have no benefit on her*
*gains another tent*
*Edward gains a level*
*Rosa gains a level and learns Protect*
*gets another tent and Goblin*
*gets a Hi-Potion*
*Rydia gains a level*
*Cecil gains a level*
*Edward gains a level*
*Rosa gains a level and learns Cura*
*gets a Hi-Potion*
*gets yet another tent*
*gets a Silver Armlet and chooses to equip it to Rydia for the time being while noting it can boost that third stat and Defense for Edward and Rosa as well.*
*gets a potion*
*gets a Gold Needle*
*gets yet another potion*
*Edward gains yet another level*
*another potion*
*Rosa gains a level*
*guess what, another potion*
*and another...*
*gets a Gold Needle*
*woo... another tent*
*and yet another...*
*yay, Antidote*
*Rydia gains a level*
*gets a Rod*
*gets a Hourglass*
*Both Edward and Rosa gain a level*
*Rosa learns Silence*
*gets both a Hourglass and... another tent*
*woo, potion*
*woo, another potion*
*....another tent*
*Hourglass..... and Goblin again*
*Cecil gains a level*
Probably should have taken a before screenshot, but oh well. Interestingly, Edward now usually attacks first because his bar usually fills up a fraction of a second before Cecil's.
Off to Mt. Hobs we go again!
Two paths... I'll go right first.
*comes out on the Summit*
Whaa... I'll check the other path.
This is better. Now what's at the end for my trouble?
*Edward and Rosa both gain a Level*
*checks the chests nearby*
*gets Tent, Potion, Gold Needle, and 960 gil*
Alright, I suppose it's a pretty decent find.
*gets a Phoenix Down on my way back to the Summit*
*Rydia gains a level on the Summit*
*Finds a Holy Arrow and immediately equips to Rosa*
*notes that Rosa appears to have a limited number of arrows*
I was going to ask you the same question as I was playing as Rosa a second ago and now you appear.
I also saw a bomb with those hooded guys... It's now hidden by the Text Box.
He's important.
*the Monk curbstomps two of the cloaked figures*
And now his name is revealed to be Yang.
*Yang is then shown to deal over 60 damage in a punch and deal everyone 30+ in a special move*
*doesn't feel like putting a screenshot here*
Edward: Good grief! A Bomb!
Me: Where have you been?
Rydia: Let's help him!
Excuse me sirs, but this is apparently a mother we're fighting 5 on 1. We could be fucked.
OH SWEET MOTHER OF ARCEUS
*Casts Slow from Rosa, perhaps the first time I've used something other than a healing spell from her*
SOMEONE JUST SAID IT'S ABOUT TO EXPLODE!!!
*hurries to try and kill it faster*
*my defense then increases from Yang*
Owww... And now there's more Bombs... At least I can now start recoverying since I happen to have Rosa's screen open.
Once again, the powers of darkness came to save my ass!
Someone needs to use a tent soon...
Yang: I came here to train with my men, but all were killed by a swam of a beasts... They were Fabul's finest monks...
Me: Woah... Wait, does that mean Fadul is now unprotected?
Cecil: My name is Cecil. We bring urgent news to Fabul.
Rosa: A villain named Golbex is abuse Baron's authority to seize the world's Crystals.
Yang: Then he covets our Wind Crystal as well.
Edward: There is no doubt. He easily seized the Crystal of Damcyan a few days ago.
Yang: Then the odds are against us. The only monks left in the castle are students. They stand little chance against Baron's forces.
Rosa: I'd assume Golbez was behind the monster attacks that killed your men... And almost killed you.
Me: Then I feel that we're too late...
Yang: ...Then the attack is imminent. I must go.
Cecil: We will follow you to Fabul. We would like to help.
Yang: I am grateful. However, this matter does not concern you.
Cecil: But it does.
Edward: ...For I am the prince of Damcyan.
Cecil: Rosa and I are citizens of Baron, and this girl is one of many victims of our kingdom's recent attacks... which I have personally led.
Me: Pretty sure we've already been stripped of our citizenships.
Rydia: ...
Yang: I see...then I humbly accept your assistance.
Cecil: Let's go. We haven't much time.
Yang: Fabul lies to the east of these mountains.
I'm guessing the exit to the east is the door behind the text box, but I want to explore the Summit first.
*finds I can't explore any more on the summit and instead heads back to that healing spot as fast as I can*
*equips Yang with an Iron Ring*
*is badly hurt by a Bomb Backattack just after healing*
*Yang level ups in the same battle*
*deequips the Holy Arrows from Rosa upon discovering that are being consumed*
*Edward, Rosa, and Yang all gain a level while descending the east side of the mountain*
And we're off the mountain! I presume that Fadul is further East. Pity we don't have a hovercraft anymore...
This is a pretty long walk to Fadul... I've already slashed my way through thick forest, hiked through the mountains, and taken a couple of wrong turns. The coastline here is really jagged, which I suppose is a good, original thing.
...Of course was right there around the corner.
Well I have apparently created a longer part than I thought so I'm ending this bit here so that I can dedicate the next one to just the battle of Fadul. Assuming Baron isn't/wasn't already here...

Re: Let's Play Final Fantasy IV
If there's one thing Edward is, it's fast. Also it's spelled Fabul.
- Character Primer - Rosa:
Command List:
Attack
White Magic
Pray
Aim
Item
Equipment: Bows, staves, arrows
Personally I think staves are better for Rosa. Those usually increase Spirit, and more spirit means better healing, and better healing means less dying!
ANYWAY, Rosa is Cecil's lover. She originally was an archer, but became a White Mage to help Cecil not die, because Darkness makes him die more. Her archery still is top-notch, though, especially if she Aims for a bit - it increases her attack a bit and never misses, though it does take a bit longer to execute.
Prayer is a nice way to get free heals early on - it restores HP roughly equivalent to a Cure spell. Nice way to save MP early on for some of her other spells.
Rosa's White Magic is much, much more advanced than Rydia's, and is also better than Tellah's on account of her not being an old man. She learns healing spells, support spells, and status debuffs. And Slow. All of these are useful, but Slow is especially useful: it decreases ATB fill speed, and it's not actually a status effect. This means nothing in the game resists Slow. Slow also prolongs status ailments, such as Sap, which very few things, if any, resist. Slow is useful, yes it is. Her buffs are also useful - Protect increases defense by 5 and stacks (up to 255, which is the limit), and can be cast on the whole party (it can miss, though), and Berserk is useful if you just want to hit things with one guy because all they can do is attack and does so with a bonus to Strength. Rosa (well, White Magic) is very, very useful.
- Character Primer - Yang:
Command Abilities:
Attack
Kick
Focus
Brace
Item
Equip: Claws, light armor
Yang is AWESOME as a physical attacker. He can kick things, which reduces the damage but hits everything, can charge up and hurt things more, and can cast Protect on himself with Brace, if you need some quick defense. He doesn't even need actual weapons - he just punches things with his fists (and well he uses claws but those are for elements or status effects mostly). He also has high HP, meaning he can take a hit. He even has a badass mustache! What's not to like about Yang?
- Boss Primer - Mom Bomb:
HP - 11000
Strength - 30
Magic - 5
Defense - 1
Magic Defense - 9
Weak: Dark Absorbs: Fire
Mysteriously, out of all the Bomb-type enemies encountered thus far, only the Gray Bomb is weak to ice. Which might not be nonsensical for some, but if you're used to RPGs (except for Pokémon), you're used to fire monsters being weak to ice attacks.
ANYWAY, though the Mom Bomb boasts a massive amount of HP, you, uh, don't have to worry about it. Deplete but 1500 of it, and she prepares to explode (see: picture). This is your cue to defend/Brace/Hide. Once she blows, the party (sans a Hiding Edward) takes damage, and three Bombs and Grey Bombs show up. You should start beating the crap out of them, and this battle is won.

Re: Let's Play Final Fantasy IV
- Part 11: The Battle of Fabul:
*Yang gains a level as I was making my preperations and also won a tent*
I'm nerivous about this... Hopefully I will be able to rest up before shit hits the fan.
Getting in would most likely be a problem if we didn't have Yang. Also this music is so epic- Almost identical theme for the SNES version:
*walks right past the guards and gates, discovering the gates are up*
Security is lax... too lax...
*speaks to the guards and only gets "Master Yang! The king wishes to see you." in reply*
INN!
*spends 100 of my 22236 gil to stay the night because afterall, the game is a scripted railroad*
*heads over the weapons shop next and makes an interesting discovery*
So just like the Ice Staff/Rod thingy Rydia is holding, Yang can equip different claws, presumbably to change his effectiveness. I'll buy the Ice Claw and the Thunder Claw as I have neither.
Also here is armor upgrades for Cecil. I can buy the Demon Helm, Demon Armor, and Demon Gloves. My current set is the Hades armor. I might as well buy the Demon Armor and see what the upgrades is.
So before I equip, Cecil's attack is 30, defense is 24, and whatever the third stat happens to be is just 3.
*equips*
Attack is still 30. Defense is now 28. Third Stat is now 4.
Back to moving on with the story, I talked to those two guards in this room and they say "Your men were annihilated!? Impossible!"
*heads upstairs and finds a door to the outside*
*elects to explore the two towers next door*
I found a Rage of Zeus (apparently works like Thunder), a Bomb Fragment, a Potion, and Antarctic Wind.
Yang: Ahh, yes. This is my wife. Cecil and his companions came to my aid on Mt. Hobs.
Yang's Wife: Well, that was mighty kind of you. Hey, hon, don't you have some place you gotta be? I heard the king's waitin' for you.
I didn't expect that one.
*explores the other tower and finds it to be the school*
*may have just slept in the King's bed accidently, twice*
*makes a hasty retreat*
Yang: Sire, we must prepare for battle. Baron will attack us at any second to steal our Crystal.
King: How do you know this?
Yang: These two are citizens of Baron. They came to warn us.
King: And these others?
Cecil: Sir, we haven't much time. The castle's defenses must be tightened immediately.
King: Yang, can we trust this dark knight and his companions?
Yang: Yes. They risked their lives to help me.
Cecil: We must hurry!
Rosa: Please!
Edward: It is an honor to see you again.
King: Prince Edward!
Edward: Sire, Baron's fleet decimated Damcyan and claimed out Crystal not long ago. Many died, including my parents and my beloved. Damcyan's tragedy must not be repeated!
King: Forgive me for my suspicions. Yang, mobilize the men for battle.
Ooo, I have a choice. I'm gonna do something I don't often have a chance to do.
*hits F2 to save and then selects No*
King: I realize I am in no position to demand anything from you...
*my characters merge together and leave the throne room*
This is interesting... I have never been able to leave it at that.
*proceeds to see if there is any notable outcome*
*finds none after a bit of walking and returns to the throne room*
*is extremely surprised to find that the exact same conversation happens all over again*
*hits Yes this time*
Yang: They have already offered to help, sire. We will join the forward guards by the main gate.
King: Very well. Will the ladies assist our medic?
Rosa: Yes, sire.
King: Fabul's fate rests in your hands. May we be victorious.
Yang: We will assemble at the main gate.
*the men start to leave and Rosa turns towards Cecil as he walks out and mutters his name*
Cecil: Rydia, take care of Rosa for me.
I don't like Rydia having to leave me... I can do without Rosa, but Rydia's Black Magic will be very sorely missed.
Just six dudes defending a castle.... Somehow I don't have very high hopes that we'll win.
*a guy runs over and yells "here they come"*
Yang: Attack!
They sent a Captain where a General failed? Let's see how good he is.
Captain: Charge!
*takes out the two Soldiers and the Captain flees*
Come back here!
*the scout from earlier announces the arrival of the Red Wings*
This should be interesting.
THIS IS NOT WHAT I HAD IN MIND.
*is forced to ride out the bombings*
Cecil: We can't hold them back!
Yang: Retreat!
Cecil: This is our war, too. And it's far from over.
Edward: They're coming!
I find it disgraceful that they think monsters are enough to take care of me.
*dispatches the monsters with ease, but did have to put to hits on the green thing that kinda looks like Medusa*
Those guards on both sides were just slaughtered...
I shall fight to the bitter end!
Yang: The king has already retreated into a safe place with the women and children. It is our duty to lure the enemy away...
Me: I swear if he is a p-
*a monster thunders up the stairs*
Yang: And crush them!
Back with fresh cannon fodder?
*slays the first warrior, and then successfully goes after the Captain, and finally curb stomps the remaining soldier*
*Cecil levels up*
No, let's stand and fight! We can take them!
Yang: !
*we recluantly move into the Throne room*
Yang: The door has been locked. We must hold this ground! The Crystal is in the next chamber.
Edward: No!
What! I'm confused! Does that make you a traitor!
Yang: You fool! What are you doing!?
Edward: He's one of them!
It is concerning that a Gargoyle can be disgused as a Monk and get away with it.
*defeats the Gargoyle with two hits*
*is faced with another trio of monsters and decides to use Edward as a healer for the time being*
*concertrates healing on Yang as his health was below 200*
I very sorely question this. I highly doubt being outnumbered will change, so if the odds are stacked against us, why can't we make our stand here?
*later comes up with the answer, while we're being engaged, others could slip by to the crystal room*
Fuck you Edward.
Cecil: Edward!
Oh another task force.
*employs my earlier stragety of one soldier, then Captain, then other soldier*
*Yang levels up*
*the retreat continues afterward*
It would appear my theory is correct. My theory is that Golbez is actually Kain.
Cecil: Kain! You're alive!
Kain: So it would seem.
Cecil: We'll talk later. For now, we have some fightning to do.
Kain: Indeed. Are you ready to face me, Cecil?
Cecil: What...?
Kain: Ready your sword!
Cecil: Kain!?
Kain: Ready your sword, fool!
So is this a scripted battle or what?
*quickly finds that I get to fight*
Kain: Save your breath.
*Kain jumps up while I'm still charging and misses :D*
Cecil: What's going on!?
Kain: Heh heh.
*Kain jumps up and comes down dealing 3770 damage*
I have to call this a scripted battle. I only got off one attack, and I don't think it even touched him.
Kain: Have you any final words?
Me: Yes, are you Golbez?
Yang: Stop!
Who said that?
Of course...
Rosa: Kain, you of all people...
Kain: No, I...
Me: Just following orders? Sorry buddy, but the in the aftermath of World War II, the world decided that excuse doesn't cut it.
Now who's talking...
Okay so my theory was wrong, but I was correct in believing that Kain was too attached to the King.
Cecil: So you're Golbez!
Golbex: Cecil, I presume? Never hesitate to kill, Kain. Now see how it is done!
Edward: Cecil!
Yang: No!
Golbez: Silence!
*Golbez hits Yang and Edward with a Thunder spell*
Kain: Yes, sire.
Rosa, you probably shouldn't be standing there for a number of reasons I shouldn't really have to mention.
Cecil: No, Rosa!
Kain: !
Rosa: Rosa, no...
Golbez: So, you cherish this woman? Then I shall take her with me to raise the stakes. Until next time.
*Golbez easily takes Rosa with him and walks out like a boss while Kain grabs the Crystal*
Kain: And you won't be so lucky next time.
Cecil: Wait...
*Rydia appear to start crying. Notably, she's the only one who hasn't been hurt*
Cecil: Arrrrgh...
Rydia: Cure!
*everyone is revived*
Rydia: Feeling better?
Edward: I thank you, Rydia, but...
Yang: The Crystal is gone! I have failed.
Cecil: And now Rosa is gone, too.
Rydia: So come on! We have to go help Rosa, and bring back the Crystal, too!
Edward: She's right. We have no time for moping. We must get back Rosa and the Crystal.
Yang: Cecil. It is our turn to assist you. For now, let us heal our wounds.
Cecil: Thank you.
*recieves control again*
*finds Hermes' Shoes in the Throne Room*
Found a secret room :D
Uh.................. Am I supposed to be able to do this?
Oh, there are chests over here.
*finds Spider's Silk, Demon Shield, and Ether*
*equips the Demon Shield to Cecil, boosting his defense slightly*
I wonder if that is connected to Rosa and Rydia showing up.
*heads to the King's quarters*
*stops in at the Inn along the way and triggers this*
I suppose that's a good question.
Cecil: To fight Golbex, we need an airship. But Baron is the only kingdom that has them.
Yang: Then we must sneak into Baron and borrow one ourselves.
Cecil: Baron's main force is the Red Wings, so it's sea power is relatively weak. We might be able to slip in by boat.
Yang: I will ask the king for a ship tomorrow morning.
Cecil: Thank you, Yang.
Yang: Who was that dragoon?
Cecil: His name is Kain. He used to be my best friend. But I don't know what happened to him...
Yang: Perhaps you will find your answers in Baron.
*everyone calls it a night*
King: Cecil, take this sword. It belonged to a dark knight who came to Fabul many years ago. The sword exudes tremendous force, but it is still a weapon of darkness. Darkness can never prevail over true evil. I have faith that you will slay Golbez. Or perhaps it is but a mere wish.
*recieves Deathbringer*
I love the sound of that.
King: Go to the harbor to the east as soon as you are prepared. A ship shall await you there. Golbez must be stopped. If he acquires all of the Crystals, the world will be thrust into an unprecedented crisis. I am counting on you.
*talks to whom is either the Queen or the maid*
Unidentified Person: The king was once a famous monk. There is no need to worry!
Me: I fail to see how that gurantees anything...
*realizes I haven't equiped Deathbringer yet*
WOW, THIS SWORD IS POWERFUL. It boosts my attack by 11 to 41 and my defense by 3 to 32. It also sometimes instantly finishes an enemy.
That's not very reassuring...
Another group of Guards has this to say "A strange rumor spreads amongst the sailors. There is talk of the sea god's wrath..."
I believe that's some pretty definitive foreshadowing...
*departs Fabul and Edward levels up*
This must be the ship. I'll end this part here.

Nah,
- Update 11 spoilers:
- Kain really is under Golbez's spell. He did say "hey let's rebel against Baron" in Mist, remember?
