Which Starter Pokémon should I choose (even though I'll probably go with Charmander)?
Re: Let's Play Pokémon Fire Red! Canceled due to screenshot issues...
You have to turn it on first, otherwise, it's just the C-Gear that's on the touch screen.

Re: Let's Play Pokémon Fire Red! Canceled due to screenshot issues...
Here's Part 20!
This part will mainly deal with me kicking Team Rocket's ass for taking over Silph Co. I do check out a few other things though. Anyway, let's get started:
This part will mainly deal with me kicking Team Rocket's ass for taking over Silph Co. I do check out a few other things though. Anyway, let's get started:
- Spoiler:
- I start off and begin to check out Saffron City. One of the first things I come to is Mr. Psychic's house:
Inside, he gives me a useful TM:
Of course, it's Psychic. I can't really think of anyone on my team that could use it, so I'll just hang onto it for now.
Looking around the city, it appears that most of the houses are blocked by Team Rocket Grunts:
Including the gym.....
*punches grunt and runs like hell*
I find the Pokémon Trainer Fan Club, but there's not much there, so I move on. I decide to head to the Mart to buy a few more items.
I then decide that since it's not being blocked by a grunt, I'll head over to where the old gym was and train in the dojo:
There's 5 trainers total here: A Karate Master, and four underlings to the master. After one of the battles, I get Gloom to level 32. After a few more battles, both Primeape and Nidorino get KOed...........
I think I might need to train my Pokémon a bit more....
Eventually, I do beat all the underlings. Now for the master:
He has a small team of only 2 Pokémon, but they are at a fairly high level. His first Pokémon is a Hitmonlee:
Since Gloom isn't looking too well, I switch to Charizard who OHKOes Hitmonlee with a Fly attack!
Second round has Charizard up against a Hitmonchan:
This fight goes a bit awkwardly: Charizard misses his first Fly attack, Hitmonchan uses Thunder Punch when Charizard is in the air, then uses Ice Punch when he's on the ground. The second Fly hits, but doesn't KO Hitmonchan. I eventually finish him off with a cut attack and end the battle.
For my outstanding battle, I get a free Pokémon! :D
The choices are:
And Hitmonchan (apparently, I didn't get a screenshot of it... ). I end up choosing Hitmonchan:
I go back over to the other one:
So after claiming my prize, I head off for the Pokémon Center to heal up, then check out my new Hitmonchan. He's only at level 25, so I decide to hang onto Primeape.
I then head over to Silph Co. There's a grunt outside who's supposed to be guarding the entrance, buuuuuuut:
He's fast asleep.
I go ahead and enter the building:
On the first floor, there isn't one person around:
I see an elevator, but decide to explore via the stairs.
I head up to the second floor, which is a bit different from the first, as I quickly run into a grunt:
He doesn't have much of a team (what grunt does? ), but he does have an annoying Cubone, who manages to Bonemarang Nidorino enough to KO him...
I have Gloom finish off Cubone, and he gets to level 33. After the battle, I use a revive on Nidorino, and in the next battle, he gets to level 32.
I then come across a warp tile. Apparently, this is another method of getting around in this building. So I step on the first one I come to. It only leads to a higher floor level and later on I discover that most of them are like this.
After getting off the first warp tile, I run into:
A Rocket Brother? O_o Hmmmmm..... Maybe I'll get something special for beating them all?
Raichu gets to level 34 after battling. Later, I have to use a Revive on Primeape after a Self Destructing Wezing.... He later gets to level 32.
I then find an Iron in a room with beds:
Unfortunately, I can't heal my team in these beds....
Later, I find a hidden Protein with my Itemfinder. After more battling, I get Primeape, Vaporeon, and Nidorino all to level 33.
I use my Itemfinder again, and it starts pinging:
Unfortunately, it looks like it's in another room....
I move on and run into another one of the 'Rocket Brothers.' After beating him, I find a Card Key.
After checking my itemfinder again, it goes off, but like the last item, it appears to be in another room....
At this point, I'm starting to get a bit lost.... @_@
I battle one more grunt, getting both Nidorino and Vaporeon to level 34 (Nidorino learns Fury Attack), then I head back to the Pokémon Center to heal up again. While I'm there, I decide to evolve Nidorino into Nidoking. :D
I then head back to Silph Co. and remember that I have the Card Key, which means I can access other parts of the building that are closed off:
Now I have access to most of the floors without getting turned around on warp tiles.
In one of the sections I open up with the card key, there's a girl who can teach Thunder Wave once as an apology for thinking I was a grunt sneaking up on her:
I then find a Focus Punch TM, then later find a Protein and come across a hidden item (probably one of the ones I couldn't get to earlier), an Elixer.
After more battles, I get Vaporeon to level 35. Later, I find a Hyper Potion.
After a while, I run into Blue:
Of course, he wants to battle. His first Pokémon is Pidgeot:
Not a good match for my already injured Gloom....... I switch out to Raichu who takes care of Pidgeot.
His next Pokémon is Growlithe:
Vaporeon takes care of him, and we move onto round 3:
Another easy win, and round 4:
Raichu manages to take out Blastoise and gets to level 35.
Blue's last Pokémon is Alakazam:
Vaporeon's Bite is very handy for taking out this Psychic type, and I take the overall win.
Blue says a few more things, then heads off. A generous guy close by gives me a Lapras for everything I've done so far! :D
I get Gloom to level 34 after more battling, then later find another hidden item, a Revive:
I then see that the room in this area appears to have Giovanni and an important looking guy:
Wanting to continue exploring, I decide to come back here later.
After leaving, I find more grunts and get Vaporeon to level 36 where he learns Aurora Beam! :D
I then find another hidden item (which I believe is the other one I couldn't get to earlier), Calcium.
Eventually, I find more beds, but this time, I can heal my team!
So after healing, I continue to take out grunts. I also find a Torment TM. I then get Gloom to level 35 where he learns Moonlight. I think it's time to evolve Gloom now, so I use my Leaf Stone:
Vileplume!
Later on, I come to a room with a bunch of items:
Other 2 items were a Max Revive and a Escape Rope.
I then find another one of the 'Rocket Brothers' and easily beat him. Later on, I find a hidden Carbos.
After more grunt battles (oh yeah, there's scientists all over the place here as well, and also one Juggler...), I get Primeape to level level 34, then find a HP Up and X Special in another room.
Continuing to explore the area, I find more workers. One of them mentions why Team Rocket would want to take over Silph Co.:
Later on, I find a Calcium, then run into the last Rocket Brother:
After defeating him, I get....... Nothing.........
So yeah, there was nothing special about them.....
I find a Bulk Up TM, then head back to the beds from earlier to heal up. Later, I find a hidden Max Potion.
After more battles, I get Primeape up to level 35 where he learns Cross Chop! I also get Nidoking to level 35 after more battling.
I find more items in another room (Carbos, Rare Candy, Ultra Ball), then find a hidden HP Up. I then head back to heal once more before taking on Giovanni.
I head up to the top floor and run into one more grunt, then find a Zinc close by to him.
I then realize that there's no way to access the area Giovanni is from here...
I then head back to the warp tile that led me to him, then finally confront him:
Ah, Giovanni! It hasn't been long enough since we've last met.......
So now it's time for the second match with him:
He starts off with a Nidorino:
Vileplume isn't a good match for Nidorino, so I switch to Charizard who takes care of Nidorino easily. Onto round 2 of this match:
A much better match up for Vileplume. Vileplume takes care of Rhyhorn and gets to level 36. Next round:
Primeape takes the round easily, so onto the final round:
Thought it would be interesting to see a King vs. Queen match up, but Nidoqueen has a better level advantage, so I have to switch out to Vaporeon who finishes off Nidoqueen, giving me the victory!
Yes you did. ;P
Giovanni rambles on a bit after the battle, then leaves. The important looking guy is the President of Silph Co.:
As thanks, he gives me the Master Ball!
I then head back down via the elevator and leave.
Now that Team Rocket is gone, I can fully explore the city since there's no grunts to block the way.
I head up to the gym:
Hmmmmmm....... I still think I need to train more, so I'll battle Sabrina some other time.
I then come to a house with a familiar girl inside: Copycat:
After being confused by Copycat's mimicry, I check out the rest of the city. There's not much left to explore though, so I just head to the Poké Mart and buy a few more items, then head back to the Pokémon Center to heal up again.
My current team:
Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaand I think that's quite enough for this update... I think this is my longest one to date.....
Anyway, next time, I'll be training more. I might head out towards Cycling Road to train now that I have the Poké Flute. But anyway, that'll be for next time. Until then, see ya!

Time for Part 21!
In this part, I'll be training on Cycling Road and heading into Fuchsia City, so let's get started:
In this part, I'll be training on Cycling Road and heading into Fuchsia City, so let's get started:
- Spoiler:
- Before starting off, I decide to use all the stat boosting items I've collected lately. I also do a bit of organizing in my bag and go ahead and use the Rare Candy I found the other day on Vileplume, bringing him to level 37.
After all that, I head west from Saffron City towards Celadon City and Cycling Road. When I get to it, I find that Snorlax again, but this time, I have a Poké Flute:
He wakes up and attacks, but since I already caught one earlier, I let Primeape KO it. Unfortunately, it doesn't give as many experience points as I thought it would......
Anyway, Snorlax calms down:
After that, I head inside the gate which has another lookout in it. Inside the lookout is another one of Professor Oak's Aides. He has a Amulet Coin for me, but I need 40 Pokémon in the Dex:
I only have 36.....
Well, since I can't get the Amulet Coin, I move on towards Cycling Road. All along it, there's a ton of Bikers and these guys:
What follows from this point is a bunch of battles. At one point, I have all my Pokémon at the same level:
That changes soon after when I get Charizard to level 38.
There's also a few signs around here, like this one:
Good advice.
After a few more battles, I get Raichu and Vaporeon both to level 38, then come to the end of Cycling Road:
Inside the next gate is another outlook with a guy who wants to trade a Golduck for his Lickitung:
I decline obviously.
Outside the outlook, there's a patch of grass with a few Birdkeepers around it. I let Raichu take care of them and he gets to level 39.
I then arrive at Fuchsia City!
One of the first things I notice is a Pokémon Zoo with a few Pokémon around:
Also in this zoo is a move tutor:
There's the Safari Game just north of the zoo:
I'll be trying that out later. For now, I continue checking out the city.
I come to the Warden's house and talk to the warden:
Ummmmmmmm...... Yes?
@_@
Another odd thing around here is a Strength boulder blocking an item:
Moving on, the next building I come to is a Fishing Guru's house. He gives me a Good Rod:
Handy, but could have used it a lot sooner.......
I find a hidden Max Revive in his back yard, then try fishing in the small pond nearby:
Awwwwwww........
I decide to move on since it seems like there's nothing around here to fish for.
I then check out the Safari Zone. There's a building called 'Safari Zone' nearby the 'Safari Game' area:
Inside is just a bunch of Safari Zone employees. One mentions a competition during the Safari Game. The game is finding a 'secret building' during the safari game. The prize is a HM.
Something else that's amusing: The warden is nicknamed "Warden Slowpoke" because:
Anyway, I finally head over to the game area to play:
OUTRAGEOUS! HIGHWAY ROBBERY! THIS SHOULD BE FREE!!!!
I pay the price anyway and start my game:
Unfortunately, I don't find the secret building, but I do find a bunch of items (a Leaf Stone, a Sunny Day TM, a Full Restore, a Max Revive, and 2 Max Potions). I also manage to catch a few Pokémon:
Then....
Oh well, I'll try again later.
I head off towards the Pokémon Center and find a couple more houses in between it and the gym.
One house belongs to Bill's grandpa. A girl inside mentions the warden:
Hmmmm..... Guessing that's why you can't understand a damn thing he says.....
The other house has the move deleter in it:
I then head inside the Pokémon Center and heal up.
And that wraps up this part. Next time, I'll try to take on the Fuchsia Gym. Until then, see ya!

Go back to the Safari Zone, there's some really good stuff out there. And I mean really good. And I'm not talking about Pokemon either.
Plus you really can't continue without going back

You picked wisely this time, young padawan. :yoda:
Also, it's actually really cheap, as Poke Dollars is the Americanized Yen, which I believe has an exchange rate of 1 penny=1 yen (last time I checked, anyway; it's still pretty cheap). So you're really paying ~$5 for the game.
Given that they give you 30 Great Ball-type items, you're actually getting a bargain.

Oh yeah, I'll do that too, probably after the gym.
Thank you my master. *bows*Lief Katano wrote:You picked wisely this time, young padawan. :yoda:

Also, I know, I was just joking around (did something similar when they asked for 50 Pokédollars to get in the Pewter Museum earlier in the LP).

Here's the long overdue part 22!
This part, I'll be dealing with the Fuchsia City Gym. I'm going to try something different for this part and play as I type, so let's get started:
This part, I'll be dealing with the Fuchsia City Gym. I'm going to try something different for this part and play as I type, so let's get started:
- Spoiler:
- I start off and head straight over to the gym:
This will be the first time I've faced Koga as a gym leader (I've only battled him as an Elite 4 member before).
Heading into the gym, I can see Koga right away:
*runs into an invisible wall*
Owwww.........
So yeah, this gym is like the gym in GSC/HGSS with lots of invisible walls.....
In order to get to Koga, I have to find a pathway to him in the invisible maze. I run into a few trainers along the way.
The first trainer I run into has a:
HYPNO!?!?! I thought this was a Poison Gym!?
So anyway, I switch out to Vaporeon and let him chomp down on Hypno.
The next guy has 3 Drowzee and a Kadabra....
Vaporeon takes care of them, but gets Poisoned and injured, so I quickly heal him up.
Next trainer has a:
Finally.... A Poison type.
Vileplume is still a bad matchup for it (no idea why I have Vileplume out first anyway right now), so I switch out to Nidoking who easily takes care of the cobra.
The guy's next Pokémon is a Sandslash, so I switch back to Vileplume who gets a OHKO Giga Drain in! :D
Last Pokémon is another Arbok, so I switch back to Nidoking.
Something tells me I'm going to be doing a lot of switching out in this gym... :P
I think I'll skip the details of the next few battles. I do manage to get Vilepluem to level 38 and Vaporeon to level 39 before reaching Koga.
I finally reach Koga:
Looks like I missed a trainer near the front, but I don't feel like going back through that maze just for one battle.... @_@
So my battle with Koga begins:
His first Pokémon is a Koffing:
Why the fuck do I still have Vileplume out?
So I go ahead and switch out to Nidoking again, who I forgot to heal after getting paralyzed....
He manages to take care of the Koffing, and I switch out to Charizard for the second round:
Muk proves to be no match, and it's off to round 3. I switch out Charizard to give him a rest and send out Raichu:
Koffing gets zapped and OHKOed. Now for the final round:
After a couple of Thunderbolts, Weezing is defeated and I take the win!
Now that I have the Soul Badge, I can use Surf... Well, when I get it that is...
He also gives me a TM:
It's Toxic, which is cool, but I'll probably just hang onto it for now.
I make my way out of the gym after bumping into more invisible walls, then head to the Pokémon Center to heal up.
And I think I'll end this part here for now. Next time, I'll try to get the HM from the Safari Zone. Until then, see ya!

I'm sure you noticed this, but the walls aren't completely invisible. Each wall tile has white corners.
Also don't forget to keep track of how much money you throw away while exploring the Safari Zone.

Re: Let's Play Pokémon Fire Red! Canceled due to screenshot issues...
I think that the Psychic types might be there to make the invisible wall.
Also it could be because Psychic types can make illusions (sorta), and Koga's a ninja. Fantasy ninjas, at least, use the power of illusion.
Or both.

Re: Let's Play Pokémon Fire Red! Canceled due to screenshot issues...
Part 23 will be a brief update, so let's get started:
- Spoiler:
- So for this part, I'm just looking for the hidden building that has the HM I need in it. On my first attempt today, I don't make it in time... I do find a Nidorina though:
I also spotted a Syther and Rhyhorn, but both got away before I could catch them...
On my second attempt today, I find a few items, including a couple of TMs:
I also manage to catch a Rhyhorn before finding the second TM:
Also before the second TM, I find an interesting notice:
Aaaaaaaand this explains why nobody can understand what he says.
A few feet from the sign, I spot another item:
....... You'd think the guy putting up that sign would notice the teeth were practically right next to it....
So after that, I find that second TM I mentioned earlier, then come to a building. Inside is a guy:
Woooo!
So as a prize:
I have Surf now!
After that, I check out the grass again to see if I can find anything else, then my time runs out.
I head over to the warden's house and give him his teeth back:
He pops them back in right away.... Even before cleaning them..... :P
He's so grateful, that he gives me a reward:
Whoa! Two HMs in one day!
Now that I have these two HMs, I teach them to my Pokémon. Vaporeon gets Surf, while Primeape gets Strength.
And that's all for now. Until next time, see ya!
