Which Starter Pokémon should I choose (even though I'll probably go with Charmander)?
Re: Let's Play Pokémon Fire Red! Canceled due to screenshot issues...
Time for Part 18! This part will be all about how Eevee dismantled Team Rocket on their home turf, so let's get started:
- Spoiler:
- Before I start off, I check my team out and debate whether or not to use my Evo Stons on them yet. After doing some research, I decide to wait on Gloom until level 35 (when it learns Moonlight) and Nidorino until level 53 (when it learns Horn Drill). I think about using one on Pikachu since it's moves are good like they are (might add Thunder later either by level up or by TM), but decide to wait a little longer first. I also consider using one on Eevee, but decide to level him up a bit more before doing that.
I then realize that all my Pokémon are male. Interesting.
Anyway, I then decide to head back to the game corner togamblekick Team Rocket's butt.
I'm about to head down:
Buuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuut......
Those slot machines look like fun! :D
So I decide to play a bit first. I get the free coins from the people in the Game Corner that I couldn't get the other day, then sit down at one of the slots:
All the games are slot machines:
Simple setup: Put game coins in (1 to 3), hit the button a few times, maybe win more coins. I win a few times, but ultimately:
Awwwwwwwwww.....
I finally head downstaris to the hideout. First thing I do is find a hidden PP Up in a plant:
I then start beating up on grunts with Eevee to train him a bit. After the first grunt, I run into a dead end:
I head another way and run into more grunts, getting Eevee to level 26. I find an Escape Rope, then head down some stairs that were near the entrance:
I battle another grunt, then come to:
A bunch of moving floor tiles........... :P
Making my way around this section, I find a bunch of items (a Moon Stone, X Speed, Taunt TM, and Super Potion).
Eventually, I come to an elevator:
I try to go to another floor, buuuuuuuut:
*sigh* Time to find a key for this thing.....
I head up the stairs closest to the elevator and run into more grunts, getting Eevee up two more levels to 28. I find a Hyper Potion, then leave the floor since there's nothing else there.
I head to another set of stairs that I passed earlier and head up (or was it down? ). In this section, there's a few machines:
*wants to push a button, but remembers what happened last time*
*pushes it anyway*
..................................
*nothing happens*
Awwwwwwwwww.......
Moving on, I find another grunt and a Frustration TM past him:
I then come to more moving floor tiles....
Grrrreeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeaaaaat...... :I
I find a Rare Candy along one path, then find a few more items along the way (Blackglasses, a Max Ether, and a Snatch TM).
I run into a few more grunts along the way, then come across a clumsy one:
Yay! Time to head back to the elevator!
When I get there, I find I have a couple of options:
I head down (or up? ) to the first floor to see what's there. All that is there is a grunt. After beating him, the dead end I came to earlier opens up, allowing me to leave this way when I'm done here.
At this point, I've had to use a bunch of items on Eevee (Super Potions and Ethers mainly (Ethers due to the fact that his only damaging attack right now is Quick Attack which keeps running out of PP)).I'm surprised that he isn't high from all this medicine he's taken.
I head back to the elevator and head to the fourth floor. I find a Calcium, then come to a couple of grunts guarding a important looking part of the basement:
I mop the floor with the first one, getting Eevee to level 29.
At this point, I finally decide to use the Rare Candy I got earlier on Eevee, getting him to level 30 where he learns bite. I then decide it's time to use my Water Stone:
Vaporeon!
Now that I have a Water type on my team, I use the Water Pulse TM that I got from Misty on Vaporeon. I also decide to use the Giga Drain TM I got from Erica on Gloom.
I then take on the other guard who's no match for Vaporeon! :D
After beating him, the gate opens to the room. Inside the room is a familiar looking character:
Giovanni! :O
So it's time for my first battle with the boss of Team Rocket:
He has three Pokémon on his team. Most of them are Rock/Ground type. A good match up for Vaporeon! :D
The first round is his Onix against Vaporeon:
Vaporeon easily KOes it with a Water Pulse!
Next is his Rhyhorn:
Again, no match! :D
His last Pokémon is a bit tougher, a Kangaskhan. Since it's a Normal type, Water Pulse doesn't do nearly as much damage...
I have to use a Hyper Potion on Vaporeon after a hard Mega Punch from Kangaskhan, but eventually take it out. Vaporeon gets to level 31 after the hard fought battle!
Giovanni says a few more words before departing:
I don't think I have a choice seeing as you're the last gym leader...
After leaving, an item appears close by:
Finally! Now I can see those 'ghosts!'
I leave the hideout and heal up at the Pokémon Center. My current team looks like a keeper:
So anyway, I think I'll take a break here. Next time...... Hmmmm..... There's actually a few options I could try out (back to Lavender Town to catch some ghosts, check out Cycling Road if possible, maybe get into Saffron City finally). Guess I'll have to check them all out next time! Until then, see ya!

I'd recommend using a Moon Stone on Nidorino earlier, as Horn Drill, while it's an insta-kill, rarely hits, like most techniques of its nature, and evolving it sooner gets better stats.

I might do that. Nidoking can learn Megahorn at around level 44 (if I remember correctly) which is pretty good.
Oh, real quick, is there a tutor in this game that can reteach moves for heart scales (or something else)?

They use Mushrooms, but I forget where they are.

Yeah, one BigMushroom or two TinyMushrooms. He's located on the Sevii Isles, which you can get to after you beat Blaine, I believe.
Remember, though: for whatever reason, the only relearnable moves are moves from the Pokemon's current species.

Right, so Nidoking can't remember Horn Drill, Raichu can't remember Thunder, etc.
I do like Horn Drill, but I guess it would take a while to get Nidorino up to that high a level. The main move I want to teach Nidorino is Earthquake, but he can only learn that as a Nidoking and by TM (which I think you get after beating Giovanni for the gym badge).
Let's see, Earthquake, Mega Horn..... Hmmmm.....

Yeah. It'd take too long for a move like that.

Time for Part 19!
This time, I'm exploring many different areas and trying to catch a very obese Pokémon, plus a bunch of other things, so let's get started:
This time, I'm exploring many different areas and trying to catch a very obese Pokémon, plus a bunch of other things, so let's get started:
- Spoiler:
- I start off and head out towards Route 16 to see what's out there:
Grrrrrrrreeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaaaaatttttttttt............ :P
Well, since that way is blocked off, I decide to check out what's behind a cut tree:
The first thing I find is a couple, which means it's time for another double battle:
Gloom shits a brick when he sees two strong fire types.....
I switch out to Vaporeon who takes care of them along with Pikachu.
Going through the gate in this part brings me to a house. From this area, I can see towards Cycling Road:
A lot of bikers around there.....
I head inside the house and find a girl:
In exchange for keeping it a secret, she gives me something special:
I BELIEVE I CAN FLY!!!
So now I have fly! Can't remember if I have the gym badge that lets me fly, but I'll find that out later.
I head back towards Celadon, but first, I get gloom to level 31 in the grass nearby. After that, I heal up at the Pokémon Center and prepare to head out again. I go ahead and teach Charizard fly first before heading out:
After that, I head towards Lavender via the Underground Path. After a while, I arrive at Lavender Town and head towards the Pokémon Tower. Time to go ghost busting!
I run into my first ghost a little while after entering:
Not nearly as scary now. *phew*
I try to catch it, but KO it.... Along with the next one I find........
Eventually, I catch one:
And with that capture:
I have enough Pokémon species recorded in the Pokédex to get an Itemfinder! :D
I then come to that spot where the 'ghost' prevented me from moving on. The 'ghost' appears again, and the Silph Scope quickly reveals it:
I wear it down and try to catch it:
Did it just....... o_O
It did! O_o
Ooooooooookaaaaaaaaaaaaaay....... Since I can't catch it, I have no choice but to make Vaporeon KO it. The result is Vaporeon getting to level 32. Then this happens:
Holy crap! It was actually a ghost! Creeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeepy........
Well, that's good. Rest in peace Marowak.
I then move on to the next floor:
Great, Rocket grunts...... But, fortunately, they're no match for Pikachu, who goes up two levels to 33 during the battles.
After each battle, the grunts would mutter something, then storm off:
Anyway, now that the grunts are gone, I can talk to this old guy:
After rambling a bit, he asks me to come to his house. When I get there, he gives me an item:
Now I can wake those annoying Snorlax that are blocking the roads! :D
I head to the Pokémon Center to heal up again, then finally decide to use my Thunderstone on Pikachu:
Now I have a Raichu!
I then head off towards the Snorlax to the south and arrive there shortly:
A brief song plays, then the Snorlax wakes up:
*gets squashed by the Snorlax* Owwwww.........
Okay, not really, but there is a battle:
It turns out that even though he's not at an extremely high level, he's still a pain in the ass to catch.....
On top of that, he uses Rest......
And he's holding a Chesto Berry.....
So back to full health and wide awake.................................
Eventually, I get it weakened again, and after a few more Poké and Great Balls:
Finally! *phew*
So now I have a Snorlax and the road is clear. I head towards the gate with the outlook and the guy with an Itemfinder:
Sadly, since this is an older game, you have to use it manually every time you want to look for an item..... Oh well.....
I head towards Vermilion City and heal up, then head north towards Saffron.
I then come to the gate with the thirsty guard:
After giving him the tea, he quickly gulps it down. He then tells me that I can go through. He also says that he'll share it with the other guards, which probably means I can go through the other gates freely now as well.
I then take my first steps into Saffron City:
Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaand there's another grunt......
Gggggggggrrrrrrrrreeeeeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaatttttttttttttttt....... Now I have to save a huge company......
Aaaaaaand I'll be doing that next time! Until then, see ya!

I wouldn't call the other versions of the Itemfinder automatic. Though of all the versions, it does require the most work to use as the other required you to tap the screen and gave the item's location.

It was even worse in GSC and maybe the original RBY. I don't think there were arrows.
On the other hand, yeah, the Marowak ghost is one of the only two Pokémon in the series that can't be caught (if memory serves). Even if you get it to sleep, knock it down to 1 HP, and use a Master Ball (via cheating), it will dodge the Poké Ball.

In BW/B2W2, it pops up on the touch screen and pings automatically when you walk near an item, then points you to it.

Hey Jokool. I heard if you use the Itemfinder on the spot where Fuji was standing on, you get a Soothe Bell.
