Which Starter Pokémon should I choose (even though I'll probably go with Charmander)?

I was about to dig you out, but you posted before I finished typing this out...
Anyway, here's Part 7:
This time, I explore Route 3, catch a new member of my team, make my way closer to Mt. Moon, and do other things. So let's get started:
Anyway, here's Part 7:
This time, I explore Route 3, catch a new member of my team, make my way closer to Mt. Moon, and do other things. So let's get started:
- Spoiler:
- I start from the gym and see if there's anything that I've missed in Pewter City. I find that I haven't missed anything and head to the Pokémon Center to heal up.
After healing, it's time to move on to Route 3!
As soon as I head in that direction, one of Gramps' wokrers stops me:
He has something important for me: The Running Shoes!
There's also a note with them from mom saying stuff like she's rooting for me. Awwww.....
Now with my new shoes, I run towards Route 3!
This route has a few young trainers (Lasses, Youngsters, and Bug Catchers). All of them have the common Pokémon around here.
During one of the battles, Pikachu get's to level 11 and learns a new move:
And a very good move for this part of the game! :D
One of the trainers is the kid who's obsessed with shorts: Youngster Ben:
Ben was actually a bit strong, having an Ekans that manages to poison Charmander.
Knowing that I'm not too far from Pewter City, I run back to the Pokémon Center to heal up again.
This was the result after the battle and running with Charmander poisoned:
After healing, I head back out and battle more trainers, getting Pikachu to level 12 and Charmander to 15.
After battling a Lass with a Nidoran female and finding out that there's Nidoran on this route, I contemplate catching one.
I then get Pikachu to level 13 and find a hidden Oran Berry:
The youngster next to the hidden berry is shocked to find out I don't wear shorts.
After the battle, he says this:
Kids and their shorts these days...
After another battle, I use a Potion on Pikachu.
I then find some grass to train in and decide to look for a Nidoran while I'm there.
I get Pikachu to level 14 and find a good Nidoran soon after:
The males are more common than the females in Fire Red, so I go ahead and try to catch it. To be safe, I try a Pokéball at the start. Nidoran breaks out, so I try attacking. Fortunately, it survives and I try to catch it again:
New team member!
I try to train a bit more, but Pikachu gets poisoned, so I quickly head back to the Pokémon Center to heal everyone up again.
After healing, I check out Nidoran:
He has a Hasty Nature (Speed +/ Defense -), so it's not too bad. He also knows Peck, so I figure Viridian Forest would be a good place to train.
And wow, I was so right! :D
The many bugs easily bring Nidoran up to level 10 (he learns Focus Energy at 8).
I run into another Pikachu in the middle of training:
For fun, I try to catch it from the start (like I did with my current Pikachu):
Woo! Another lucky catch! :D
After that, I get Nidoran up to level 12, where he learns a new move:
Very nice! But not very good against bugs, so after Nidoran runs out of PP for Peck, I head back to Pewter City to heal up. I also deposit my new Pikachu in 'Someone's PC' since I don't really need her...
I head back out towards Mt. Moon and eventually find a Pokémon Center. I find a hidden Persim Berry next to it:
Inside the Center, there's a few interesting things to see, like:
Ah yes, the Magikarp Salesman.... Just for the hell of it, I buy one.
Over in the corner, there's a guy reading the paper:
More news about Team Rocket, yet I still haven't seen one grunt...
I heal up once again, then check Magikarp out:
It's Docile (= stats). Gyarados is a good water type, so I try to train my new fish a bit.
.......... After a bit of tedious wild Pokémon training with a lot of switching around, I give up on Magikarp at level 6.......
I do end up getting Nidoran to level 13.
So after all that training, I head back to the Center by the mountain, heal up, box away Magikarp, and call it a day.
So I'll end it here. Next time, we'll be exploring Mt. Moon and maybe (finally) running into Team Rocket. Until then, see ya!

I still say you should try training the Magikarp.
Also, my two cents are that Nidoran's nature is actually bad because of the defence, minus.

I am a little concerned with the lowered defense, but hopefully, it won't be a problem.

It's time for Part 8!
This part is all about Mt. Moon and kicking some Rocket Grunt butt, plus other exciting things (and some boring things)! So let's get started:
This part is all about Mt. Moon and kicking some Rocket Grunt butt, plus other exciting things (and some boring things)! So let's get started:
- Spoiler:
- I start off from the Pokémon Center next to Mt. Moon and head inside the mountain:
Mt. Moon soundtrack.
I start training my Pokémon since there's going to be a lot of wild encounters in this mountain (and I mean, a looooooooooooot.....).
I quickly find Bullet Seed:
Note, I might have gotten some of these item screenshots mixed up since there's so many items around here...
Moving deeper into the cave, I run into a few trainers. I get Nidoran to level 14 and find a nearby Parlyz Heal (no idea which screenshot had me finding it, and since I already have too many screenshots, I'll skip posting that shot).
I come across an interesting notice in the middle of the cave:
*shudders a bit* That's a bit creepy......
After a few more battles, Nidoran get's to level 15. Time to start rotating my lineup!
I put Mankey out front for a bit, but he gets Paralyzed by a Paras' Stun Spore.... Time to use that Paralyze Heal I found earlier!
After going a bit deeper in the cave, I have my first Team Rocket sighting:
I quickly start a battle with him:
And of course, he's no match for my Pokémon! :D
Mankey gets to level 15 (I think during the battle with the grunt).
I then find a Star Piece past the Grunt.
After a while, I have to use a Potion on Mankey. Later, Pikachu gains a level to 15 and learns a new move:
I then rotate Charmander to the front and get him to level 16, when:
Charmander is evolving!!!
Say hello to Charmelion!
I then decide to use another Potion and Paralyze Heal on Mankey.
Later, I find a few more items:
I run into a guy who says he's digging fossils. Doesn't say much else. You'd think he'd have an extra fossil for me...
Moving on, I get Pikachu to level 16 and Mankey to level 16. Mankey also learns a new move:
Not the most powerful move, but it'll do for now.
I then run into another Grunt:
Like with the last one, he's not a problem either.
Nidoran then gets to level 16 (during the battle?), aaaaaand:
ANOTHER EVOLUTION!!!!
Say hello to Nidorino!
In the same area with the last grunt I battled, I find a hidden Ether:
Up on a ledge in the same area, I find Thief (appropriately near the Grunt...):
Moving on, I get Mankey to level 17 and find a Moon Stone (which will come in handy later on).
There's another item that I find further up:
I run into more grunts and take care of them easily.
I then run into a Clefairy:
If I remember correctly, Clefairy are hard to find, so I try to catch it for the hell of it. I weaken it a bit and try a ball, which fails. I try another attack.... KOed the poor thing...
Pikachu then gets to Level 17, and I run into more grunts (who are still pathetic).
Charmelion then gets to level 17, and I use a Potion on Nidorino. I'm gonna need to restock on items soon....
I then find a hidden Moon Stone:
Deeper into the mountain, I find another Clefairy. But now, I really don't give a damn about catching one, so I KO it too... :I
I then run into this Super Nerd:
After a battle, he feels a bit more generous, so he let's me choose one, while he takes the other.
The options are a Dome Fossil (which produces a Kabuto if revived) and a Helix Fossil (which produces a Omanyte if revived). I choose:
I find out that I have to wait until I reach Cinnabar Island to revive it though...
I then get Nidorino to level 18 and he learns a new move:
A weak move, but can come in handy, maybe...
I then find an Antidote and make it out of the mountain:
Almost to Cerulean City!
Along the way, I run into two guys:
One teaches Mega Punch to one of my Pokémon, the other teaches Mega Kick. Apparently, they only do this once each...
I then find a hidden Razz Berry:
Then come across Roar:
After a little while longer, I finally take my first steps into Cerulean City!
Cerulean City soundtrack.
I decide to head straight to the Pokémon Center to heal up. After talking with the people in the Center (most of them mention some guy named Bill), I decide to call it a day.
So that's all for this part! Next time, I'll be exploring Cerulean City and maybe battling Misty! Until then, see ya!

My advice? Don't evolve Nidorino until it learns all its moves.
And I agree with Lief. Kabutops is much cooler than Omastar. :I

Yeah, definitely going to wait on using the moon stone.
As for the fossil, at the time I chose it, I was thinking I needed a more defensive Pokémon for my team. But it doesn't really matter at this point since I can't revive it until much later...

Now that I think about it, those fossils won't do you much good because of how late in the game you can revive them. Especially since you don't have the patience to train a Magikarp. Level 15, then it can fight on its own

Here's part 9!
Quick question before I begin: Does anyone know if you can play and save another game (like say I wanted to play a Mario game) without messing up the other save?
Anyway, this time, I'll be checking out Cerulean City and the surrounding areas, then fighting Misty! So let's get started:
Quick question before I begin: Does anyone know if you can play and save another game (like say I wanted to play a Mario game) without messing up the other save?
Anyway, this time, I'll be checking out Cerulean City and the surrounding areas, then fighting Misty! So let's get started:
- Spoiler:
- I start off by checking out the surrounding buildings and stuff. The first thing I come across is:
Ooo... Let's see if I can get a bike!
What the hell!? Who could afford that price!?
So yeah, no bike for me today...
A little ways away from the shop, there's a Slowbro in the road:
Looks like he needs coffee as well.....
I then head to the mart to stock up on supplies. I sell the Star Piece I found earlier, then buy 10 Pokéballs, 10 Super Potions, 4 Paralyze Heals, and 4 Awakenings.
After that, I continue looking around the city. I come to a house with a guy who wants to trade his Jynx for a Poliwhirl:
Since I don't have one, I decline.
I then come to a house with a guy who describes the different gym badges. The guy also has a back yard with a hidden Rare Candy:
Awesome! :D
The house next to it has a guy who gives me this:
It appears that you can use it by berry blending berries, creating a powder that this guy can make medicine with. Unfortunately, it appears that you have to link up with Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald to do this, which I can't....
Another house close by has a cop in front of it because of a robbery that took place in it:
What's even more obvious is the Grunt in the back yard:
I'm watching you. :I
After I finish exploring the city, I head north to train a bit before taking on the gym.
Along the way, I run into Blue:
Of course, he wants to battle. So we begin. He has 4 Pokémon now (funny how every time we battle, we have the same number of Pokémon). The first match up is much better than the last battle:
Pikachu takes care of Pidgeotto, but a Quick Attack from the bird lands a critical hit, so I switch out:
Round 2 ends with my victory as well.
Wanting toshow offtrain all my Pokémon, I bring out Charmelion for the next round:
He takes care of Abra easily (who only used Teleport...). Time for Round 4:
Squirtle proves to be no problem for Nidorino and I take the victory! :D
After the battle, he mentions that he met Bill and saw his rare Pokémon. Blue then gives me this before leaving:
All it does is tell about important people I've met or heard of (like Professor Oak, Brock, etc.)...
I heal up once again and head back north towards the Nugget Bridge. I take care of the trainers easily on the bridge, getting Charmelion and Pikachu both to level 18. I then get a Nugget from the guy at the end of the bridge:
Guy then asks if I want to join Team Rocket...... Hell no. :I
He really wants me to join....
I battle him and mop the bridge with him, getting Mankey to level 18 during the battle. Because Mankey was Poisoned during the battle, I head back to the Pokémon Center to heal up again, then head back.
I run into another trainer on the other side of the bridge. I get Pikachu to level 19, but have to use my last regular Potion and one of my Antidotes on him.
In the grass around the area, I train Charmelion to level 19, then move on.
I find Attract past the bridge:
I then find a hidden Pecha Berry close by:
On the way to Bill's house, I run into a bunch of trainers, leveling up both Nidorino and Mankey to level 19.
After another trainer comes up to battle me, I can access a area cut off by a cut tree. In the area, I find Secret Power:
After another battle and getting Mankey to Level 20, I arrive at Bill's house:
Inside, I find.....
O_o Um........ Yeah.......
So apparently, Bill got himself scrambled with a Clefairy.... Now he needs my help, so he asks me to hit a few buttons on his PC while he gets in his teleporter-thing:
Everything works out in the end, and he gives me a ticket to the SS Anne (because he can't use it):
After that, I leave and head back to Cerulean City. After healing up again, I head to the gym.
The 2 gym trainers are no match for Pikachu, and along the way to Misty, Pikachu gets to level 20 and learns a new move:
Had to toss out Double Team, but I figured slam could come in more handy, maybe...
Now it's time to take on Misty! Misty has 2 Pokémon:
Her first Pokémon is Staryu:
After the first Thundershock, she uses a Super Potion on it, but Pikachu eventually takes care of it.
Next is her star (or other star ) Pokémon, Starmie:
Unfortunately, I underestimated how strong Starmie was... It gets off a Water Pulse that takes a big chunk out of Pikachu's HP.... He also gets confused from it..........
Pikachu manages to get a Thundershock off, but it barely does any damage...
I switch out to Nidorino hoping he can handle it better....... I'm dead wrong....... Nidorino gets KOed, so I switch back to Pikachu to try and get another Thundershock off, but Starmie takes poor Pikachu out as well.....
I send out Mankey next who's no match for Starmie..... I use a Revive on Pikachu as Mankey gets KOed, then switch to Charmelion. I use a Super Potion on Pikachu as Charmelion get's hit hard.... I try to get off a move before he faints, but again, Starmie is too much.....
So it's my last chance. Pikachu comes out and manages to get off another Thundershock, but again, it barely does any damage (it does get Starmie's HP past halfway down though). Starmie then finishes Pikachu off.....
Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Back at the Pokémon Center, everyone gets healed. It sucks that I lost like that, but I'll come back from this!
So I'll end this part now. I'll be grinding a bit in the next part and going for round 2 with Misty. Hopefully, the outcome will be much better next time. Until then, see ya!
