Today I Learned

Texas, as part of a deal for becoming a state when it was previously an independent republic:

1. Owns all the public land in its borders rather than the federal government, like everywhere else; and
   
   
2. Has permission, without any congressional action necessary, to divide itself into as many as five states at any given point it likes.
   

This is in spite of the fact that it was doing horribly as an independent nation anyway and its only real hope was to become part of the States. (Though the second bit is kind of a sucky deal, given the unlikely chance that Texas would want to split anyway.)

Also, Six Flags began in Texas and named after the six flags that have historically been flown over the state (France, Spain, Mexico, the Republic of Texas, the United States, the Confederate States).

Wow.

There are scorpions in New Leaf and, yes, they do attack you.

If Alaska were overlaid across the continental states (including the Aleutian Islands) it would stretch as far south and east as Florida, as far north as Minnesota, and as far west as California.

I knew that a while back

The Japanese Pokémon anime uses the phrase "bear with me" a lot. Or maybe it's just the XY anime, I dunno.

Learned this last night when I was battling in the Champions Tournament: If a Pokémon with Moxie KOes one of it's teammates (like how my Gyarados KOed my Scizor with Earthquake in a double battle), it gets a Moxie boost.
