Today I Saw...

Post by Moira O'Deorain on 21st May 2017, 7:28 pm

As I mentioned in the Suggestion/Complaint thread, this is for discussing interesting, amusing and/or downright bizarre things or situations we've likely seen during our daily lives.

I'll start first: Today I saw a car with extensive fire damage to the front left side. Upon asking a neighbor, I found out someone had set it on fire and it nearly spread to an apartment building plus another car. Eek!

Kinda scary when I think about it. Oh sweet Lordy.

Thank god they were able to extinguish it before it spread. Unfortunately such an event in my complex would likely result in extensive damage everywhere because the buildings were built to a very lax fire code in the early 1990s.

At least when a report of fire does come in, someone had the foresite to ensure the county dispatches what looks like half of it's available trucks. Had a fire start in one of the units a few years back and within minutes all of the local department were there with their pumpers and two ladder trucks, several more engines arrived from neighboring departments, plus the tiller truck (articulated ladder truck) from Leesburg.

Thanks to the quick response, the damage was largely limited to just that unit and most of the ones surrounding it only received very minor damage. About a decade ago the community was not as fortunate as another fire demolished 2/3rds of one of the buildings and very nearly set the rest of the complex ablaze with all the embers falling out of the air.

reminds me of when I was a kid, middle of the night a car caught fire and there were explosions as it spread. Thankfully the damage was only to 4 cars which were destroyed (one of em looked like a skeleton of a car o^o)

One of those days...

First things first, a Sienna was towed in late last night. Customer said the wheel came off on the highway. Turns out the brake rotor had a manufacturing defect, cracked, and completely sheered away from the mounting face. The failure quickly resulted in the destruction of several studs, which caused the separation of the wheel from the vehicle.

Sitting right beside it, was one of our loaners. This one was given out two or three weeks ago. Curiously all the windows were rolled down, the reason why was quickly evident. The car was a mess, especially the backseat and passenger front floor.
Initially I thought someone had thrown up on the passenger front carpet. It was actually a large mold growth from something that was spilled.

Pictures coming at the rate of snails. Sending them from my phone, then I've gotta download them, then upload them.

Wait, so someone took one of your loaners for that long and made a mess of it?

I partially retching in my throat the more I think about that car. The unlucky front counter salesman who drew the short straw elected to drive it with rag heavily saturated with air freshener over his mouth and nose.

Okay it wasn't today, it was Friday. In my excitement over the new truck I forgot all about it.

Saw an absolutely beautiful Shelby at the shop. I'm not sure which model, but it was a small car with the exhaust going right out the fenders and along side the bottom of the car.

Last night

Just a mile from home last night, I was sitting a red light with a bunch of other cars. Actually the same red light related to my last traffic incident. Light turns green after allowing the turn lanes to proceed. I start away and this person, I believe a woman, floored it at the beginning of the turn late on the opposite side. Now traffic, including me, is already entering the intersection. But she kept on going and pulled right out in front of me.

I had already realized what she was going to do and had plenty of room to slow down. And laid on the horn. She kept right on going, narrowly missing the car next to me.
