Re: Railworks 4: End of the Line
- Arriving East:
What he said.
My train has a caboose!?
I think I have room for six in the caboose, 2 up front with me, and 3 more in the other diesel with me.
I'm currently in Notch 1 right now.
Hauling ass at 55 mph
Just passed the second way point, Hodge Track 2
My exhuast disappeared....
I'm alone in my cab....
That's the second time I blew my horn at a bridge, having mistaken it for a crossing while it was still rendering.
Are cabooses standard equipment here on the pass?
I'm killing squrriels again
And we're almost at Victorville, 5 miles from it. Should be there in 9 minutes.
I've slowed to 35 mph for this bend.
This is Victorville.
That should conclude this run. I'll be running to the library in a few minutes.

Re: Railworks 4: End of the Line
- Barstow Backlog:
How helpful. Thank you for the very clear cut instructions.
*uncouples*
So these.
I'm not sure why they included a black repaint of this locomotive. I can only come up with two reasons why. The first is so that you can place generic diesel locomotives in the scenerio editor The second is that this locomotive doesn't belong to Union Pacific.
If hadn't hit my emergency brakes, I may have lost the scenerio. I stopped just short of coupling
*checks switches*
I believe we're good to go without changing anything.
I feel like this is a funeral train
I hate it when people make me feel like I'm stupid.
I hate you.
I'M NOT STUPID
Despite me needing to stop here, the signal is still green.
What will you say to me now?
"Congratualtions, you have completed the scenario. After the priotity train passes you'll continue, but that is for another time"
I feel like he misspelled some things.

Re: Railworks 4: End of the Line
- Coal Shunting:
NOT YOU AGAIN
Anyway, we've got a black SD40-2 today.
If I don't pay attention for the next 10 minutes, I will derail my train.
That coal car looks like it's leaning.
That guy is hauling ass down this grade O.O
Said cars are in the background. Also that's apparently a coal loader there. I'll test it out later.
For some reason, I enjoy the thought of killing squrriels with my exhuast.
On to the next scenario!
- Climbing the Pass:
I thought these would be unweathered.
I think they had just one scenario writer.
*does what the scenario writer said and starts killing off the local squrriel population*
This grade is kicking my ass even with 4 diesels.
Line speed has forced me back into notch 6
Gotta slow down again.
Now we are entering a part of the pass I haven't been in yet.
So far the grades are much better
Now we're waiting the crew to report on the rockslide.
We reached line speed before we finished passing under the bridge. I clearly underestimated the power of my train.
Tunnel!
It's so bright in here.
Glitchy Tunnel!
We must be close to the summit.
This is a lot of power for such a small consist.
Ah good, the summit is just around the corner.
*has activated my dynamic brakes*
When did I change tracks?
That should be the end of my run.
And they think I'm a good driver.
Can you tell I've been busy?

Re: Railworks 4: End of the Line
I'm trying to get Cajon Pass all finished up so that I can start on Donner Pass as soon as I get it, which should be downloaded and installed by Friday.

Re: Railworks 4: End of the Line
Unlike most of the people around me, I'm quite patient.
also I was on the Railworks website a little while ago and it seems they removed one of the locomotives I wanted....
- Full Up:
I have 400 gallons left. And it's raining.
I think those are spare coupler parts.
I took on 3600 gallons of fuel.
I think it stopped raining.
Great.....
I'm having to thread my way through the yard to the exit.
This exit is part of a wye.
Those are the autorack cars, I think. Anyway that's 27.74 miles up the line.
Getting ready to merge onto the main line.
It's been an uneventfual 4 miles since the last screen shot.
I don't remember a farm being there....
Currently 15.93 miles from Ore Grande
How interesting, empty coal cars.
I've never had a train with only one engineer, usually there's someone in each locomotive.
4.5 miles from Oro Grande
*uncouples*
Victorville (I keep saying Victorsville in my head) is a mere 5 miles up the line from Oro
Yet another scenario finished.
also I was on the Railworks website a little while ago and it seems they removed one of the locomotives I wanted....

Re: Railworks 4: End of the Line
- Relief Freight:
I'm suprised that I haven't gotten an assignment that takes me over the entire route. I've still got 4 scenarios left.
- Slow, Sharp Shunt:
The paint looks nice today.
I've got to move all the cars out of East Victorville so that inspections can be carried out.
I enabled a setting that applies the brakes when I go over the speed limit. What I didn't know is that it applies the emergency brake. I'm going to disable the setting at the next possible opporunity.
I just triggered the brakes again.
but it finishes the scenario for me.

Re: Railworks 4: End of the Line
- Slow Climb South:
Once again, this is not an end to end run. I'm starting from Victorville today.
I am concerned with the lack of motive power for this run. I have just 2 locomotives up front and a 3rd on the end.
Just got out of the siding.
I believe is that track the usual route for Southbound trains and that first route I took was the path for Northbound trains.
This is a 1.9% grade and I'm barely accelating in Notch 8
*a long time later*
I feel like I'm lost....
I think my lack of trips over the summit mean are making me feel like I've never been here before.
I know where I am now, the summit.
Judging by the track we are on and the fact we passed a switch without changing tracks, we're going on the gentler grade.
2.2% grade
I've keep good control of my train so far even through I'm not paying that much attention
22 miles to SanBar Yard.
18 miles to the yard. Both tracks have rejoined.
14 miles from SanBar Yard. Going 45 mph. Dynamic braking makes the descent very easy.
A glitched crossing.
1 and a half miles from the yard.
While flipping the camera around for this shot, it froze up for a minutes.
Pulling into the yard
*notices something*
The level of detail....
I wish I could take a train all the way frome end of the line to the other.
I was looking at Donner Pass and it's appearently 140 miles long. I don't think I'll be running an end to end run there either. I wonder if a GS-4 would have that range....

Re: Railworks 4: End of the Line
- The Splitter:
The first time I've ever loaded my own train
*hits t*
THAT WAS AWESOME
Now I've got to repeat it 10 more times.
Can I take this turn at 55.5 mph? Let's find out.
Appearently yes. It's scary as fuck to watch though.
Amber....
*post lp moment, while adding in the pictures*
The amber signal is actually for the track next to my train, my signal is green.
Green :D
I am liking the sounds of the SD40-2. Speaking of the SD40-2, Railworks just released a repaint for Indepence Day. At this moment in time, I have no interest in getting it.
I really can't tell if the sun is raising or sitting. It's almost 8:00. And here's another question, what timezone does am I currently using use?
That was a flashing amber signal. If I'm not mistaken, this is when I am going to change to tracks, to the one with the steeper grades.
I'm tempted to say it's morning.
What's that doing there
Welcome to one of the many versions of Hell up here on Earth, Cajon Pass.
I don't remember there being a 3.4% grade 0_0
We are two miles from the summit, which is straight ahead from the camera's prespective.
I didn't notice I was this close to the summit.
I really am loving the sound of the SD40-2
*activates my Dynamic Brakes*
The skies don't look very pretty.
The grade is now too gentle for Dynamic braking.
I think railworks is running at half speed of actual time due to my computer not meeting the specs the program requires for the best experience.
I swear some of my containers were green and white.
2.02 miles from Victorville, where we are stopping.
Welcome to Victorville.
Which locomotives?
*uncouples the leading engines*
Appearently we're leaving that tailing engine behind.
This is the train I need to couple to, but I'm supposed to stop in the next siding over. Due to the way the switches are aligned, I'm going to run past the train and come back.
This is Oro Grande Siding 4

Re: Railworks 4: End of the Line
- Thorn Reversal:
So they give me black locomotives for my last Scenario run on Cajon Pass.
The game feels laggy.
Dear god, I hope those switches are set properly
Can I take both engines D:
I think this is a title drop. The title of the scenario is Thorn reversal.
I never noticed there was water here.
This is Thorn.
These cabooses are tiny.
I hate it when the scenario ends while I'm still working on positioning my train.
Now that I've finished all the Cajon Pass Scenarios, I'm going to remove the turntable and roundhouse from my custom route.

Re: Railworks 4: End of the Line
- Frozen Big Boy:
Today I'm doing a run to Cheyenne with some period accurate cars. The driving reason behind me getting the Cab Forwards now was these runs, which required the cars from the cab forward. After waiting for another train to pass, I'm on the move. For the best framerate, I'll be inside the cab.
We're running on track 3 today and seeing how scenic that one is, I'm sure I'll get some good shots of #4004.
54 mph, we're apporaching a cement plant. The line speed is 60 mph.
60 mph.
Got a steeper grade coming up.
Hmm.... It seems we're going to have to wait on yet another train at Red Buttes.
I'm going to go into the siding under 20 mph
Hmm......... the light is green.....
*checks my 2D map*
The switch in front of me is set for me.
The next signal is green.
Then there's an amber.
The signal after that is at Hermosa, and it's red.
The switches at Hermosa are also set against me.
I'll take a chance. This scenario is rated a 5.
So the signals must still be se-
Why did that just change?
*checks the map*
The switches just changed.
Right now we are at 55 mph. The switches on Sherman Hill have a 30 mph speed limit, so I'll start slowing down when the signal at Hermosa comes into view on my HUD.
BTW, this picture has to be one of the best I've taken yet.
Which just appeared on my screen. I'm 1.3 miles away. I'll apply 20 lbs of air on the cylinders.
There are tracks 1 & 2
Merging onto track 2
We're going to track 1 now.
Wanna guess what's around this bend?
OMG, I'M ACTUALLY LOSING BOILER PRESSURE, I HAVE NEVER SEEN MY BOILER PRESSURE CHANGE BEFORE IN A BIG BOY.
It looks like we're staying on Track 1 for now. We're 34.75 miles from Cheyenne.
Odd.....
We're almost at the summit. 31.20 miles to Cheyenne.
The sheer amount of detail really does justify how expensive the routes are. Route building is very time consuming, even for just laying track.
That moment you notice you are losing water......
The Big Boy should have enough water, even if there is a leak.
27.30 miles from Cheyenne. I've been coasting so far, but because the grade is only 0.8%, I've been slowly losing speed.
The grade is now steep enough that we can gain speed while idle.
I've got to slow down now for a 45 mph speed restriction up ahead.
This is Granite, 20 miles from Cheyenne.
AND I JUST DERAILED. :fuuu: There is a really rough section of track at Granite, but I already passed it without incident.

Re: Railworks 4: End of the Line
- Issues:
Had it not rained early this morning, I would've gotten Donner Pass today. For now, I'm going to make do with the DLC scenarios I can get for free through Steam. First up, a Sherman Hill scenario.
First off, everything is extremely laggy and I mean extremely. Some people would believe that their computer is frozen. And I have to sit here for two minutes until the City of Portland leaves. In case you cannot tell, I am operating a Big Boy today.
*10 minutes later*
I know my computer is not frozen because I can hear my air compressors.
*5 more minutes later*
I'll try doing another scenario......
Welcome to Britain! And this wonderful high speed train. 30 seconds to departure.
Time to go!
*5 minutes later*
Still laggy......
*decides to restart my computer*
*notices that there are updates*
This is going to take a long time.....
*a long, long, long time later*
Framerate is better, though still not where I would like it. Also this train has a very fast idling speed, 1000 rpm. The first notch is at 1100 rpm and it seems to increase the rpm by 100 each time the throttle is advanced a notch
Hopefully framerate will improve once I'm out of the station.
If I hate Paddington for any reason, it's that it scares the crap out of me with all these switches
Hmm.... I believe this is broken, or at least the LED display is.
*several miles later, the display freezes*
*hits the windows button to exit fullscreen mode without closing the program*
*discovers an error occured in my scenery files*
*then gets a popup that says Railworks stopped working*
........
I'll be busy troubleshooting.....

Re: Railworks 4: End of the Line
That sucks.
That high speed train scenario looks cool though!

Re: Railworks 4: End of the Line
As cool as it looks, because speed does usually decrease my framerate, don't expect me to run high speed trains very often.
