- Westbound Local:
Another doublehe-
I'M ON A TIMETABLE
And now I see that my path is being crossed
I've got 3 minutes to haul ass over to the platform here at Altoona.
14:36
I've got 10 tons of coal and 2300 gallons of water.....
That looks way too sharp for 20 mph
*notches in the popup thumbnail that Steam botched the shot by not taking the picture when I wanted it to*
:fuuu:
*finds this during post LP image inserting*- Spoiler:
Come on people, I'm on a really tight schecuale here!
14:38:39
Next stop is at Gallitzin at 15:05 in 11.59 miles and the time is 14:39:37
One of the beauties of the steam locomotive is that spoked wheels appear motionless, or even appear to be moving backwards at certain speeds.
I am struggling.... I can't even reach 15 mph....
Now I can't reach 10 and stay there. I'm going to be 5 minutes late at this rate...
Now I'm slowly gaining speed. 8.85 miles to go and it's 14:56. ETA: 15:14
I am not going to fail this scenario so if I can't make it in 5 minutes, I'm going to restart.
I'm going to throw away my safe driver bonus check and take the curve as fast as I can instead of 30 mph. Right fast as I can is 33 mph.
35.5 mph and my ETA is 15:15. It's almost 15:03 now. I've got 5.78 miles to go
Right now it won't matter if I continue or not, I'd still be late and thus fail the scenario.
I miss the 4449......
This is my timetable
Altoona 14:39
Gallitzin 15:05
Cresson 15:02
(stop marker)
Johnstown 15:49
*was killed by blowback as I entered the tunnels just .8 miles from my second stop*
If I can't do this scenario with my favorite locomotive, then this scenario is bullshit.
*a long time later*
Editing the scenario was too difficult, mainly because I have to program the route and that's a time consuming and manual process that requires me to hike all the way up the line.
So instead I made a free roam using the GS-4 War Baby Repaint.
In addition to the black paint job and more weathered appearence, the number board is also shifted back from the front of the smoke box to the middle of the locomotive. During World War 2, many GS locomotives looked like this, minus the side skirting. The 4449 was also in this paint scheme (and also missing her side skirting) when she was removed from the park for restoration.
I can't really take on passengers for whatever reason so I'll just head up the grade. BTW, she's longer than a K4
Well she's not having the best time on the grade, but she's accerates much better.
Note the steam exhausting with the black smoke, evidence that I'm using the blower to increase the heat of my fire and get more steam.
Really impressive framerate so far.
I'm going to stop now, having been statisfied with the 4449's performance with the climb up to the tunnels.
Appearently the scenario had an extremely strict timetable and a fallen tree for me to deal with, but because the K4 sucks at climbing hills, I'm not going to continue it.

Re: Railworks 4: End of the Line
- Preservation:
This one is probably going to be really strict on speed and time ._.
Also I'm starting on a 2.8% grade.
That is ugly.
....
TO THE SCENARIO EDITOR!
I've got 6.90 miles until I have to stop for some reason.
*derails on the steep slopes leading to the curve*
I didn't see that train before.
*derails again after leaving the tunnel*
Clearly I can't use Dynamic braking.....
So I'll have to use air brakes....
I'm also using the brakes on my locomotives.
I'm supposed to stop real soon for some reason.
So why do I have to stop here
Still doesn't answer my question. That cermony is in 1.5 miles.
Also I think I'm going to fail because my comfort levels are already in the red from the grade.
I never saw that before.
Slowly creeping in....
Water doesn't look that bad
Did I win?
*fancy cut scene plays*
BTW, that locomotive is no longer there IRL if I remember correctly
- And now for a step up in reality:
This is one of the DLC locomotives that comes with scenarios for the Horseshoe curve route. This fantastically detailed locomotive has several variants, with a HUD version and a realistically controllable version. This tutioral uses the latter.
Umm.... hang on a few moments, I need to go get that PDF. Those text boxes don't hang around....
I think I've started the oil thingy...
Now I'm decently sure I have.
Okay, I've started the Compressor and Generator.
And set the lights to green.
And we're moving, like a snail!
Okay, now we can go get those cars.
got them
*accidently uncouples the tender while trying to couple the caboose and fails the scenario*
That air compressor is really loud when it's actually doing work.
My whistle isn't working even though it was working just fine earlier.
I hit that way too hard....
There is intentional lag in the throttle coding, this makes shunting difficult but also increases the realism.
If I remember correctly, Johnstown was absulotely destroyed due to a dam failure
*stalls on the bridge*
Ah, it's a 2.4% grade.
I'm having trouble with keeping enough water in my boiler.
I'm hoping this is a glitch.
*goes to another scenario*
I'll be getting another route soon.

Re: Railworks 4: End of the Line
- Super Long Haul Part 1, Donner Pass:
Today and possibly tomorrow as well, I'm challenging myself with a very long jounrey. Up and over Donner Pass, through the Plains of Wynoming and then over Cajon Pass and returning over part of Donner Pass.
This is possibly the most realistic run to date with the 4449 as this is the track from Portland.
Roseville and the rest of my train is over that way, but I need to ahead away first so I end up facing the right way.
My consist is behind me and off in the background are two helpers if I fail to get up the mountain.
My consist is as follows
Coach Dorm Car 39015
Sleeping Car 32013
Sleeping Car 32043
Coach Baggage Car 31040
Lounge Car 33023
Coach Car 34065
Coach Car 34014
Coach Car 34022
Lounge Car 33019
Dining Car 39021
And now that I'm coupled up, I need to set the switches then I can go.
*derails while leaving the yard*
I must have forgotten a switch
Moment of truth, or rather several minutes of truth as I'm taking it very slowly. I'm having to use rather high throttle applications to get moving
So far so good.
We're almost completely out of the yard.
And we're clear
This is a heavy train so we're acceralating rather slowly. I'm thinking I should've picked up a helper. I didn't place anything at Colfax so if I can't make it up the Pass, I will have to return to Roseville. But I have faith in my baby.
And we're at the point where the tracks take their own paths.
And we're already losing speed.....
*goes to get the helpers*
I have to actually go back instead of just abandoning my baby.
/
So the crossings are animated
And the gates lower when the train is that far away.
Finally back in Roseville Yard, I'll take the Amtrak units sitting over there. Only I'm not sure where I want to them, up front or in the back.
I'll leave the coaches here before pulling up to allow clearance for this switch.
I can't switch over to the units so I'll have to go get them the hard way.
Hey my lights are still on!
Now I'm going to run around to the helpers via an ajacent track.
Not much clearance
And this is what the inside is like.
That siding over there is called Roseville Diesel Shop RIP
I just pushed them backwards.
And coupled.
*goes to set the lights*
Only I cannot alter the lights of the rear unit because the feature is not modelled on the driveless varrient
If I cannot climb the mountain now then I'm never climbing it.
The biggest problem with this set up is that I have to close my throttle before I can change the reverser.
Can we do it this time?
Not only are we doing it, we're overtaking a semi.
The surprise 30 mph speed limit always gets me.
Eh? What's that
I don't know what these are.
This is so easy now even on the normally ass kicking 2.7% grades
14:00:30
Arriving in Bowman
14:07
The 4449 owes a lot to one Jack Holst, who looked after the 4449 and the other two locomotives in the park. Jack kept the bearings and rods well oiled and these efforts contributed to the 4449's selection to be one of the AFT locomotives. Unfortantately, Jack died in 1972 and never got to see the locomotive return to operation. The 4449 restoration lasted from December 14, 1974 to April 21, 1975.
These two diesels are bugging me with the whining of their engines. I'll shunt them around when I get to Colfax.
We're almost at Colfax
14:38
I'll leave the coaches here. Hopefully they won't roll away on me.
Now I will attempt to uncouple the 4449 while retaining control over the diesels.
Success! Now to flip these around using the wye.
And now to move these towards the rear of the train.
And now I run around to the front of the train.
And now I roll back.
We're ready to continue our jounrey. I'm fine on fuels.
I think I broke a coupler.
Yeah, I broke two couplers.
I can't move D:
*goes to fix this*
Why does stuff like this always happen to me at Colfax?
Okay, fixed it, I think. I tried to set the fuel to as close as possible, but I've got a few more hundred gallons (11,009 gallons total) and a little less oil (26.1 tons).
All aboard!
It seems I lack the power to actually get moving.
My wheels seem to be sliding.
I could be derailed...
Or the brakes could be on in my helpers....
Or something else could be wrong.
Yeah, it's a power issue.
I'll add another unit.
They're screaming so what the fuck is the problem?
*goes back to the scenario drawing board*
Next time, Daylight VS Donner Pass!

Re: Railworks 4: End of the Line
- Super Long Haul Part 2, Daylight VS Donner Pass:
Fuck those heavy Amtrak cars (no wonder they're never on time) these passenger cars are far better because I'm using 15 of them.
And she accerelates far better than before.
I'll pick up with the screen shots after I reach Colfax. Only this time I won't be stopping.
No where near Colfax, but I would like to note I can't climb 2.7% grades with this consist with my injectors on.
Wheelslip.
I've got to pause here at Newcastle to refill my boiler, the level is 26%
My consist is
Baggage #6085
Baggage #6087
Railway Post Office #6000
Coach "Sonoma" #2387
Coach "Mendocino" #2383
Lounge #3600
Coach "Shasta" #2396
Coach "Siskiyou" #2392
Coach "Sonoma" #2397
Diner #10266
Lounge #3605
Sleeper #9032
Sleeper #9033
Sleeper #9031
Sleeper #9053
We can go now
Colfax is just upahead and we can go 50 mph.
Hahahaha! I'm not stopping here!
Everything is shaking
I'm stalling on a 3.1% grade
And now I'm fine, acceralating as the grade reduces
I'm now concerned about my water status. I have 8,900 gallons left and I'm not even halfway to my next destination, Norden.
If it gets to 2,000 gallons I'll head back to Colfax light.
I'm not doing so well on this part.
I regret not filling up at Colfax. I'm going to stop at the next junction and then decide wheither to continue to Norden light or return to Colfax light.
Here's the junction....
Now will my cars roll away on me?
Yes.
The balloon track is just up ahead, so I'll put them there.
I'll continue on to Norden and refuel there. If I can't refuel there, I'll try Truckee.
Hopefully 4,000 gallons of water is enough.
Running light really does make a difference. She's effortilessly climbing the grades now.
The grades for the most part are gentler now, except for this 2.8% grade I reached while typing tis out.
Finally here at Norden.
Hopefully the position of the tower will not affect its operation
I have 1,173 gallons of water left and 22.9 tons of coal.
IT'S FILLING
This is going to take a while though since the tender is mostly empty.
16:53
After 6 minutes, the tender is full of 18,348 gallons of water. Now I'm going to back down to my train.
Also supposedly the 4449's Axuliary tender is an astethically modified AC-12 Cab-Forwardtender.
Too big for the turntable
My rod keeps appearing and disappearing, but only in this view point.
It's getting dark....
I'm fast apporaching the Balloon Loop.
17:52
There they are!
And coupled!
I used around 2,000 gallons to get here.
Hopefully the brakes released.
18:04
Hello Mister Moon.
It's past 6 am and given the pace so far, it looks it'll be dark when we arrive in Sparks.
The 30 mph speed limit over most of the route is my biggest nitpick about this route, even though I know why it's 30 mph.
About halfway to Norden now.
And we're finally at Norden, it's 8 minutes past 7:00 PM
12,000 gallons should be plenty for a downhill descent to Truckee. To make things more challenging, I'm taking the longer track.
Down we go!
19:15
*shortly after this I came to a level stretch of track that required me to stop using steam braking*
*I then walked away from the computer to fix my dinner, not remembering the rest of the descent*
*although the following events are unknown, it's very likely that the 4449 acceralated past 40 mph*
*it is then believed that the 4449 and her train derailed on one of the curves, ending the scenario*
I give.... Donner Pass wins.... I'm done.....
*goes into a corner and gets depressed*

Re: Railworks 4: End of the Line
- Scottish Haters Gonna Hate:
I downloaded $80 of DLC, all of it for the Western Lines of Scotland. First up are the regular scenarios.
Realistic driving is appearently enabled.
This may look like garbage, but it's lovable garbage.
Whistle sounds odd though, it's too very short blasts in quick succession.
Hard to miss that.
75 maxinum?
Sounds like a good route.
Um? Translation?
This is our first sotp and I think I'm going to overshot.
Stopped it.
Um? Hello?
There, after a little moving, finally here. Thank god I'm not timetabled.
In 2.83 miles.
PLANE
PULL UP YOU BASTARD
She doesn't slow down all that well.
3.24 miles until our next stop
*gets a scenary error just outside the stop*
........
That's a long train.
If it's not overshooting, it's undershooting.
*the program freezes again in the exact same spot as last time*
I'm going to e-mail customer support....
After writing a semi professional letter. I got an automatied response overnight telling me that they investigating and also that I should try emptying my cache as many problems tend to be related to this.
With my cache cleared, I'll try the scenario again.
And it seems that the sideshow is failing again.
*opens up task manager because I remember I forgot to close chrome and dropbox to gain extra memory*
*discovers an error popup*
And now my desktop is glitched out.
*more crashes later*
It made things worse.
I'll try my hand at route building until I hear back from Support.

This time the message from support feels more like a template that someone filled in. It told me how to verify the integrity of my game cache. This is a fairly long and slow process. It's 14% complete right now. If there's any problems with the cache, then Steam will replace the files.

Re: Railworks 4: End of the Line
Sightly wrong here. There's a few more foreign character designs. Hiro is a Japanese steam locomotive and Victor and the rest of the narrow gauge engines are of questionable origin, with Victor and Luke known to be imported. Also Diesel 10 makes his first CGI appearance in Misty Island Rescue, not Hero of the Rails. Diesel 10 also has an appearance in the late model version of the series in a movie I cannot remember.Truthseeker4449 wrote:Diesel 10 is based on a BR Class 42 Warship, a British locomotive. Also guys, please specify which part of the series you are talking about, I keep up with the serieslike all good 16 year olds who were supposed to abandon such things a long time agoand there have been several CGI movies released. Diesel 10 returns in both Hero of the Rails and Day of the Diesels.

That scan is complete and a stunning 345 files failed to validate. In other words, 345 files are corrupted or missing altogether.

*checks my post in the Lava Cooler*
91,918 items (16.3 GB, size on disc is 17.something)
Currently in the process of reinstalling (80%) as it seems some core files are corrupted.

Re: Railworks 4: End of the Line
Well this is a very highly detailed program and I've got a lot of DLC. And unlike a flight simulator where you can easily repeat terrain, each route must match reality wherever possible. Plus there's the coding for the signaling systems and for each and every signal piece of rolling stock.
There's a reason everything is expensive with this program, all the work that goes into it. I spent several hours yesterday working on removing Carlisle's electrification, which means I have to replace all the track. I only managed to remove about a fourth (and that work is all gone now). And that's a relatively small area.

- Wing and a Prayer:
Hopefully this works now.
Ready to go.
I hate this safety valve.
It's very loud and lasts a long time.
so far so good.
Thunderstorm
That was a perfect stop.
Time to see if the clean installation works.
Plenty of evidence of track.
And the remains of and old branch line. Also the framerate is going down.
Just past this bridge is where it has been freezing.
I've already made it further than I have before. But things are quite laggy. I'll need to reduce my settings.
Look at that lean.
Interesting yard....
Nice touch but unfortantly my detail settings are too low.
Got pushed forward when I uncoupled.
Gotta stop here while the points get changed.
Stopping here.
Saw that coming.
Hit that so hard she was trying to telescope.
Sitting here.
Alright, which one of you bastards has been using my yard as a toilet!?!
It pleases me that I was able to complete the scenario. Now it's time for a free roam.
I'm currently in the process of finishing up the free roam's creation. But I won't play it until tomorrow.
You guys have the option to suggest which engine I should use for the jounrey over the line.
Tornado
King Edward II
Black 5
F7
Also a brand new locomotive will be used at the beginning of the scenario.
