Which Starter Pokémon should I choose (even though I'll probably go with Charmander)?
Re: Let's Play Pokémon Fire Red! Canceled due to screenshot issues...
Quick update for part 10:
- Spoiler:
- I'm grinding right now. I then come across a Oddish. Thinking this would be good against Misty, I get it weakened:
Then catch it:
I go ahead and keep level grinding until I get Pikachu to level 21, then head back.
On the way back, I notice that the officer that was in front of the house earlier has moved aside and I can go in:
Oi... What a mess....
Guy says a grunt stole his Dig TM. I head out back and find that it's the same grunt that I saw earlier.
I battle him with Pikachu. He has a fairly strong Drowzee on his team, so I have to use a Super Potion on Pikachu. That gives him enough to finish off Drowzee.
After beating the grunt, I get the TM back:
He then disappears, and I go back to the guy. He doesn't seem to want it anymore, so I get to keep it.
I then find out that I can now explore to the south and to the east, so I'll do that tomorrow to train my Pokémon more.
I head back to the Pokémon Center and heal up. I also check out Oddish:
He has a Sassy Nature (Special Defense +/Speed -).
And that's all for now. Until next time, see ya!

The Starmie is the real danger, that Staryu is there to make you overconfident. I personally have trouble at this part too, but I normally pick Bulbasaur so I don't usually have that big of an issue. What I do is grind to level 22.jokool wrote:
- Spoiler:
Next is her star (or other star ) Pokémon, Starmie:
Unfortunately, I underestimated how strong Starmie was... It gets off a Water Pulse that takes a big chunk out of Pikachu's HP.... He also gets confused from it..........
Pikachu manages to get a Thundershock off, but it barely does any damage...
I switch out to Nidorino hoping he can handle it better....... I'm dead wrong....... Nidorino gets KOed, so I switch back to Pikachu to try and get another Thundershock off, but Starmie takes poor Pikachu out as well.....
I send out Mankey next who's no match for Starmie..... I use a Revive on Pikachu as Mankey gets KOed, then switch to Charmelion. I use a Super Potion on Pikachu as Charmelion get's hit hard.... I try to get off a move before he faints, but again, Starmie is too much.....
So it's my last chance. Pikachu comes out and manages to get off another Thundershock, but again, it barely does any damage (it does get Starmie's HP past halfway down though). Starmie then finishes Pikachu off.....
Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Back at the Pokémon Center, everyone gets healed. It sucks that I lost like that, but I'll come back from this!
So I'll end this part now. I'll be grinding a bit in the next part and going for round 2 with Misty. Hopefully, the outcome will be much better next time. Until then, see ya!

Time for Part 11!
This time, I'm level grinding mostly, but I do try my rematch with Misty plus a few other things. So let's get started:
This time, I'm level grinding mostly, but I do try my rematch with Misty plus a few other things. So let's get started:
- Spoiler:
- I start off to the north to level grind there. I get Charmelion to level 20 where he learns Smokescreen. I then get Oddish up to level 14 where he learns Poisonpowder.
I then go south and check out the area past Cerulean towards Saffron City. I grind a bit more and get Oddish to level 15. In the area with the grass, there's a Day Care:
I decide to not leave any Pokémon in it.
Just past that area is the Underground Path:
Inside the first entrance is a girl who wants to trade her female Nidoran for a male Nidoran. Since mine's already evolved, I can't trade (didn't really want to anyway).
I then go through the Underground Path and come out on the other side of Saffron City.
Over by the gate to Saffron, there's a hidden Sitrus Berry:
I try to get to Saffron just to heal up real quick, but find that 'the road's closed.'
At this point, I just battle the trainers in the area and take on some wild Pokémon. I get Nidorino to level 20 and Oddish to level 16 (Oddish learns Stun Spore).
After a bit more training, I use a Super Potion on Nidorino and Pikachu. Oddish then gets to level 17 and Pikachu to level 22.
I then head south to Vermilion City to it's Pokémon Center. Inside, a girl gives me a very useful item:
This will be very handy for training!
I heal up, then head back towards Cerulean City. I go all the way back to the Nugget Bridge and try out the VS Seeker, which draws the attention of a few trainers.
During the battles, I get Oddish to level 18 where he learns Sleep Powder (I replace Stun Spore for it). After another battle, Charmelion gets Poisoned, so I use an Antidote on him. He then get's to level 21.
In another battle, I get Nidorino to level 21, then head back to Cerulean to heal again. Afterwards, I head south again and try the Seeker once more:
I get a few more opponents and get Oddish all the way to level 20. I have to use a Super Potion on Pikachu after one of those battles.
After another Seeker use, I battle a few more trainers and get Pikachu to level 23. Pikachu does get Poisoned in the last battle, so I use a Antidote on him.
Feeling confident in my team now, I head back to Cerulean City to take on Misty again!
I heal up at the Pokémon Center and check my team out:
Everyone looks good now!
I head over to the mart before trying the gym since I've used a lot of items lately. I get 7 Super Potions, 4 Antidotes, 1 Paralyze Heal, 1 Awakening, and 2 Burn Heals (doubt I need those anytime soon).
Now it's time for my rematch with Misty!
I go ahead and leave Oddish out front to take on Staryu:
Even after a Super Potion, Staryu is no match for Oddish.
Now for Starmie.......
I play it safe and use Poisonpowder in case something happens to Oddish:
Fortunately, Oddish is able to resist Starmie's attacks! :D
After a few Absorbs....
ODDISH FTW!!!
So Oddish takes care of Starmie easily, gets to level 21, and I get the win! :D
Then, something else happens:
ODDISH EVOLVED INTO GLOOM!!!
So yeah, this was Oddish's/Gloom's battle!
I get the Cascade Badge for winning:
She also explains that I can use Cut now with this badge. Now I just need to figure out where to get it...
She also gives me Water Pulse:
So after all this, I think it's time to heal up again and take a break. So that concludes this part. Next time, we'll be.... Um..... I'm actually not sure..... Well, we'll find out next time! Until then, see ya!

Now I remember! I was grasping at straws myself for where you got Cut. This reminds me that I should get back to my own LP.

Here's part 12!
In this part, I explore Vermilion City, the SS Anne, and take on Lt. Surge (I also took waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too many screenshots....)! So let's get started:
In this part, I explore Vermilion City, the SS Anne, and take on Lt. Surge (I also took waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too many screenshots....)! So let's get started:
- Spoiler:
- I start off towards Vermilion City. Before I go off though, I check something out:
Yeah, not only do I not have Cut yet, I don't have Flash either...
Anyway, I head south from Cerulean City. I try to go to Saffron City just to see if I can, but find that the road is still closed...
So I go through the Underground Path and eventually arrive at Vermilion City:
Vermilion City soundtrack.
Now it's time to explore the city! One of the first things I notice is a familiar site:
Sad thing is, in 2 years (GSC/HGSS), he still hasn't gotten it built...
Moving on, I come across the Fishing Guru who gives me this:
The Old Rod isn't great since it mostly catches Magikarp, but oh well...
I then come to a house with people trying to mail letters. One letter mentions this:
Hmmmm..... That would explain why the road to Saffron is closed.
Next house I come to has a girl who wants to trade her Farfetch'd for a Spearow:
I decline obviously.
Next is the Pokémon Fan Club:
I go in and check it out. I come across the old guy in charge of it. He asks if I want to hear about his favorite Pokémon, Rapidash. I say yes...
Why the hell did I say yes?
Oh, that's why!
So yeah, in exchange for hearing him ramble, I get a voucher to get one of those outrageously priced bikes!
Now it's time to check out the harbor:
Currently docked at the harbor is the famous S.S. Anne:
Inside is a multitude of people and trainers, which means I'm going to be training a lot here! :D
One of the first cabins I go in has a guy undercover looking for Team Rocket. Another has a family with the kids all wanting to battle me. I get Charmelion to level 22 in one of those battles, then find Brick Break in the room:
Another room has a woman in it who thinks I'm a waiter....
Do I look like a waiter lady?
I then come to another room with an old guy who gets mad at me for barging in to his room. After taking care of him in a battle, I have to use an Antidote and Super Potion on Charmelion. Then I go to the next room:
Wasted my items!
So I heal up everyone and continue checking out the ship and battling trainers. I get Mankey to level 21 where he learns Focus Energy. After a few more battles, I head back to the healing room.
After a while, I stumble across the kitchen. The chefs are too busy to battle, so I just check out the room. I find a Great Ball in it:
Then over in some garbage cans I find a few hidden berries:
The other two garbage cans had a Cheri and a Pecha berry.
After leaving, I go further into the ship and find a Hyper Potion hidden in a garbage can:
I then later find a Super Potion in another room. Shortly after, I use it on Mankey during a battle.
In another room I enter, a creepy sailor comes up to me:
*kicks him in the nuts* Pervert! Pedo! Creep!
During the battle with him, Mankey gets to level 22. In the same room, I find a Ether.
Later on, I find Rest:
I then run into a pirate:
Well, shiver me timbers and yo ho ho! ARGH!!!
Anyway, after more battling, I get Mankey to level 23 and Nidorino to level 22. Nidorino learns Horn Attack after forgetting Poison Sting:
I then get Gloom to level 22 and head back to the healing room again.
Later on, I run into Blue:
Of course, he wants to battle again. He still has his same team from last time, but some of them have evolved now, like his Squirtle:
During the battle, I get Charmelion to level 23. After the battle, he mentions a 'Cut master.'
Sounds like the person who will give me the Cut HM! :D
After Blue leaves, I battle a few more trainers and find a Stardust:
I then get Carmelion to level 24, Gloom to level 23, find an X Attack, and then get Nidorino to level 23. After healing once again, I find the captain's cabin.
The captain appears to be seasick..........
He appears to reading a book:
The book doesn't appear to be working.......
I go over to him (why, I'll never know...):
Ummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm....... Okaaaaaaaaaaaay.........
Miraculously, it seems to cure the good captain.
He then reveals that he is the Cut master. A few seconds later:
Yay! Now I can get to the gym!
Next, I do something I regret for the rest of my life:
Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeewwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww.................
I then head out on deck where there's a few more trainers:
Pikachu gets Poisoned during one battle, so I use an Antidote. He then gets to level 24 during another battle.
I then run into another sea sick guy....
Time to go now!
I get of the ship just as the ship is ready to leave the port:
Next thing to do now is take on the gym! I heal up before heading over.
I then teach Cut to Charmelion (replaced Scratch) to get rid of the tree blocking the way to the gym.
The gym has 3 trainers in it. After taking care of them and getting Nidorino to level 24, I heal up again before taking on Lt. Surge.
I have to figure out the puzzle he has down first before I can battle him...
All I have to do is find the 2 switches hidden in the garbage cans (which hopefully don't have puke in them....). I find one fairly quickly, but the next can doesn't have one, so I have to start over.....
The switches are moved around, but are always in 2 cans that are next to each other. I figure out which 2 on my second try! :D
Now to take on Surge:
He has a fairly strong team of 3 Pokémon: A Voltorb, Pikachu, and Raichu. The first Pokémon he sends out is Voltorb:
Voltorb is taken care of without too much problems. Next is his Pikachu:
Underleveled, but very annoying because of a Double Team spam....... I manage to land a Poisonpowder from Gloom, but Surge uses a Full Heal on Pikachu......
After the electric mouse starts to use Quick Attacks, I switch out to Nidorino:
Poison Point FTW!
Turns out that I don't really need it much (but it still helps) since Nidorino manages to land a powerful Horn Attack.
Onto round 3! Surge's most powerful Pokémon is his Raichu:
Fortunately, it doesn't spam as many Double Teams, but it does manage to KO Gloom....
I switch out to Charmelion, who manages to Burn Raichu with an Ember attack.
After a few more Embers:
VICTORY IS MINE!!!
I get the Thunderbadge:
Plus I get Shock Wave:
So that's 3 gym badges now! :D
I then head back to the Pokémon Center to heal up and rest for the day.
And that concludes this part! Quite a long one this time...
Next time.... Um..... No idea what happens next.......
Well.... Until then, see ya!

Or you can tap my memory banks, I have played the game many times (in fact I still have the game, my youngest brother is currently playing it). Get to route 2 via the Diglett's cave just east of the city. You can get flash there if you have 10 Pokemon in your Pokedex. Then head to Cerulean City. Go east from there to Rock Tunnel and that will take you to Lavender Town.

Time for Part 13!
This time, I'll be looking for missing HMs and doing other small things, so let's get started:
This time, I'll be looking for missing HMs and doing other small things, so let's get started:
- Spoiler:
- I start off and immediately run into one of Professor Oak's Aides:
He says to look around for another one of the Aides on Route 2. Guess I'll be getting Flash from him then.
So I head east towards Diglett's Cave which will take me back to Route 2. I notice a notice along the way that says a large Pokémon (Snorlax) may be blocking Route 12.
I figure I may as well check out the area along that way first to train a bit. I find an Awakening along the way, then come across multiple trainers.
I get Mankey up to level 25, Charmelion to 25, and Nidorino to 25 during the battles. Further along the way, I find a X Defend, then get Gloom to level 24 during another battle where he learns Acid.
I then come across a hidden Escape Rope in a rock:
Later, I find a Great Ball, then come to a gate. Inside it, there's stairs that lead up to a overlook with binoculars:
Checking out the binoculars only brings up some text about what can be seen. Boooooooooriiiiiiiiiiiing.......
The kid in the observatory wants to trade his Nidorina for a Nidorino. No way dude. :I
The other guy is another one of Oak's Aides (boy, they get around ). He says he'll give me a Itemfinder if I've caught 30 Pokémon, which I haven't...... So that'll have to wait.
I head back down and come across this:
Yep, Snorlax is fast asleep again, and of course, he's in the way.....
I head back to Vermilion to heal, then head to Diglett's Cave:
While I'm going through, I get Gloom to level 25, then come to the other side of the cave.
I come to a house with a kid wanting to trade his Mr. Mime for an Abra. I decline (obviously).
I then come to a gate. Inside it, I find the other Aide. He does indeed have Flash, buuuuuuuuut, I need to catch 10 Pokémon. I only have 9 registered in the Dex (including evolutions)......
So, it looks like I'm going to have to catch some Pokémon if I want to get Flash and an Itemfinder...
I decide to head towards Viridian City from the gate. Along the way, I find an Ether and Paralyze Heal. After arriving in Viridian, I heal up, then go to buy a few Pokéballs.
Now it's time to get some Pokémon! I start with the local Pokémon in the area: Pidgey and Rattata.
...... Not the easiest things to catch when your Pokémon are like 10 times as strong........
I do eventually catch a Rattata thanks to Gloom's Poisonpowder.
Now that I have 10 Pokémon, I go back to get Flash:
I then continue to try and catch Pokémon until I get to around 30 so I can get an Itemfinder. I head back towards Pewter City and manage to catch most of the Pokémon around that area (early bugs and birds).
Once I get to Pewter City, I head to the area that I couldn't get to earlier:
Inside the building is another part of the museum. A scientist has an Old Amber that he believes contains Pokémon DNA. He gives it to me to take to Cinnabar Island:
Also inside this part of the museum is a move tutor. He teaches Seismic Toss, but like the others I've ran into, it's only once....
I move on and try to catch more Pokémon. Eventually, I bring in a Spearow that I caught earlier to help with weakening Pokémon to catch.
I come to Mt. Moon again and try to catch some of the Pokémon inside.
Wait a minute....... Didn't I beat all the Team Rocket grunts here earlier? Why are they still here? O_o
Anyway.... I eventually catch most of the Pokémon in the cave and come back to Cerulean City. I decide to pick up my bike while I'm here:
I quickly register it, then take it for a ride:
Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!! :D
I head south to catch more Pokémon, then come to the gate towards Saffron City. The road is still closed.....
I then head down the Underground Path back towards Vermilion City. I try fishing to see if I can find any more Pokémon:
After a few attempts, I finally come across:
Bleh........ :P
So yeah, with a crappy Old Rod, I'm not going to find much in the water anytime soon....
I buy more Pokéballs, then go back to Diglett's Cave to catch a Diglett. I come across a strong Dugtrio instead:
Takes me forever to catch her, but I eventually do. I continue to look for a Diglett and eventually catch one.
Then another Dugtrio shows up... Again, strong. He somehow KOes Gloom and Mankey, so I try to escape. He won't let me.... I send out Charmelion hoping to get away, but Charmelion gets KOed as well...... I finally manage to get away before anyone else gets hurt.
How embarrassing... Almost completely KOed by a wild Pokémon.....
I get out of the cave as fast as I can, then heal up. I decide to check out the Dugtrio that I caught:
He has a Bold nature (Defense +/Attack -). I decide to keep him on the team for now, at least until I find a good Water type.
I still need to catch 9 more Pokémon before I can get the Itemfinder, so I continue to look. Eventually, while I'm looking, I get Pikachu to level 25.
I catch 2 more Pokémon, but decide to take a break from catching for now. I head back to Cerulean and heal up.
I check my team out once more and decide to call it a day.
And that'll wrap up this part! Next time, I'll be heading towards Lavender Town! Ooooooooo...... So until then, see ya!

You do know it means 30 species of Pokemon, right?
Like, catching 30 Pidgey won't get you anywhere.

I know that. That's why it's taking me so long... I can't find enough Pokémon in the areas I'm in right now, so I'll continue along the way to Lavender Town.

Re: Let's Play Pokémon Fire Red! Canceled due to screenshot issues...
It's now time for part 14!
This time, I'm heading for Lavender Town! Let's get started:
This time, I'm heading for Lavender Town! Let's get started:
- Spoiler:
- I start off and head towards Route 9. There's quite a few trainers out here, so I get a lot of training in.
Along the way, I decide to use a couple of TMs I've acquired. I teach Shock Wave to Pikachu (after replacing Slam) and I teach Brick Break to Mankey (replaced Focus Energy). There's an interesting animation when you use a TM/HM:
Later, I run into a Canadian Hiker:
I find Aerial Ace not too far from him:
I get both Nidorino and Charmelion to level 26, then come across a hidden Ether:
In the grass close to the Ether, I level grind Pikachu to level 26 where he learns a new move:
Yay! Much better than Thundershock!
After a few more trainers, I get Mankey to level 26 as well. He also learns Seismic Toss.
Later on, I find a hidden Chesto Berry and a Burn Heal (not hidden).
I then arrive at Route 10. I can't really explore much of it yet due to the fact that there's water cutting off part of it (the part that leads to the Power Plant), so I head down towards the Pokémon Center located in this area:
Inside is another one of Professor Oak's Aides. He has an Everstone if I've caught 20 or more Pokémon. I have, so free Everstone for me (although, I don't really need it).
I heal up, then head towards the cave. I find a hidden Persim Berry in the area before the entrance, then run into a female Picnicker. After defeating her, Gloom gets to level 26.
I find another hidden berry (a Cheri Berry), just outside the entrance, then head in:
It's pitch black inside..... Time to use Flash (which I have to teach to Gloom first).
Mostly just battling trainers and wild Pokémon in here with the occasional item scattered along the way, like the Repel I find early on.
I manage to catch an Onix to help fill up my Dex and get the Itemfinder later on.
After a few more battles, Gloom gets to level 27. I then find a Revive and then get both Mankey and Nidorino to level 27.
I find another item (an Escape Rope), then battle more trainers and wild Pokémon, getting Gloom to level 28 and Charmelion to level 27. Eventually, Charmelion gets KOed due to the big type disadvantage he has here....
Later, I get Mankey to level 28 when:
WOOOOO!!!!!
Later, Pikachu gets to level 27. In the same battle, he also gets Poisoned... I've had a few other Pokémon get Poisoned along the way and apparently, I didn't buy enough Antidotes last time I stocked up on them, so I have to use one of the Pecha Berries I've found.
I find a Max Ether and later on, run into another tutor who teaches Rock Slide (and like the others, it's only once...):
I catch another Pokémon (a Machop) to get closer to 30, then get Nidorino to level 28. I find a Pearl later on.
Eventually, I make it out of the tunnel:
There's a few more trainers outside it, including a memorable one for me from Gold/Soul Silver:
Still suffers from hay fever 2 years from now (and he sneezes on me then too.... ewww.....)...
I find a hidden Nanab Berry, then get Pikachu to level 28 before arriving at Lavender Town:
Lavender Town soundtrack.
This town is really creepy.......
First thing I do is heal up, then decide to use my 2 Rare Candies on Charmelion to get him up to level 29. I then start checking out stuff.
A girl in the Pokémon Center mentions seeing a Cubone's mom trying to escape from Team Rocket:
................ Those Rocket bastards...........
Another kid mentions how some people pay high prices for a Cubone's skull masks... Creepy....
Outside, a guy has a theory about the ghosts in the Pokémon Tower:
......... How many Pokémon has Team Rocket killed?
I then come to the Pokémon House. Going inside, a kid tells me that Mr. Fuji hasn't returned. Uh oh.... Did Team Rocket kill him too!? (spoiler alert, they didn't since I remember seeing him in Gold/Soul Silver)
In another house is the Name Rater. Next door to him is a girl who has the orphaned Cubone of the dead mother Cubone:
The poor little thing....
Later on, I go to the Poké Mart to buy some items. I then come to the Pokémon Tower:
I'll save exploring that for next time. Until then, see ya!
