Which Starter Pokémon should I choose (even though I'll probably go with Charmander)?

Hmm, sounds kind of what I'll be doing later in Emerald (much later), though I only plan on one swap at this point

Hey, does anyone know why that site we use for our games doesn't have Playstation games?

The guy doesn't have a Playstation?
The site can't easily emulate PlayStation games?
It would heavily tax on the server?
Why do you ask?

My guess is that it is much harder to emulate games like those. Something like Pokemon can be easily recreated in Java, Call of Duty or Spyro, not so much, especially if you're choosing to get the graphics as close as possible to the originals.

Re: Let's Play Pokémon Fire Red! Canceled due to screenshot issues...
Understandable.
@Lief: I was curious since I wanted to try out some old Playstation games but couldn't find them.
Anyway, onto Part 4! This one will be covering my first capture, a battle with Blue, and a few other things. So let's get started:
@Lief: I was curious since I wanted to try out some old Playstation games but couldn't find them.
Anyway, onto Part 4! This one will be covering my first capture, a battle with Blue, and a few other things. So let's get started:
- Spoiler:
- I start back towards VIridian City from Pallet Town, training Charmander on the way (he get's to level 10).
Once back, I head to the Pokémon Center to heal up, then over to the mart:
Yay! I can buy stuff! But awwww.... No reward for delivering that parcel......
I go ahead and buy 5 more Pokéballs, along with 2 more Potions, 2 Antidotes, and 1 Parlyz Heal.
I head north a bit and find that the old guy got his coffee:
Now he wants to teach me how to catch Pokémon..... I hate the early game......
So now I'm expecting to go into the tall grass. Instead, the battle starts right where we stand:
Random Weedle just happened to be in town apparently...
So now I'm expecting him to try and weaken it. Instead, he goes straight to the bag and pulls out a Pokéball:
Lucky catch...
So after he explains a few more things, he then gives me a TV:
Woo! Free TV!
So let's see what's on TV:
Aw crap.... It only has educational stuff on it....
Eh, might as well see what it looks like:
*turns off the TV*
So yeah, it's a tv with shows featuring a Poké Dude who teach you stuff.......
Thank God that the B button actually turns it off....
Moving on, let's see what the Gym is like:
Awwwwwwwwwww......
Since there's not much else to see around here, I decide to head back west before going towards Route 2. I found a few Mankey over there earlier and figured one would be good for my upcoming battle with Brock.
So off I go to catch a Mankey! I also get Charmander to level 11 while I'm looking! :D
Eventually, I see a Mankey that looks strong.
Woo!
Now to heal him up and train. I head back to the Pokémon Center quickly, then check out Mankey's stats:
He has a Lax nature like Charmander. Not sure if that's good or not. One thing that's bad is that he only knows Scratch and Leer.... Fortunately, it doesn't take long for him to learn his first fighting move.
So yeah, now that everyone is healed up again, I head back out and start training Mankey. Eventually, he levels up enough to learn:
Finally. Now it'll be easier to train!
I try to head further into Route 22 when I run into Blue:
Aaaaaaaaaand he wants to battle..... Not the best time when I was training still, but anyway:
Blue has also caught a new Pokémon: A Pidgey.
Bad match-up to start off....
I quickly switch back to Charmander and give Mankey a Potion while Charmander is out. Charmander takes care of Pidgey easily.
Blue is about to send out his Squirtle, so I switch out to Mankey.
I figure that Mankey should be able to handle Squirtle easily:
............. Well fuck...................
I use another Potion on Charmander as Mankey get's KOed........
So it's Charmander Vs. Squirtle now... Fortunately for me, Squirtle doesn't use Water Gun and I get the win in!
After the battle, Blue runs off, and I go back to the Pokémon Center to heal up again.
And that's where I'll end it for now. Tomorrow, I'll be level grinding a bit more with Mankey before finally going towards Route 2. Until then, see ya!

I'm thinking about either posting this all on Bulbagarden in a blog, or just telling about it over there and linking to this. What do you guys think?

I prefer linking because we might get some new members.

I'll do that then, but right now, it's time for part 5!
In this part, it'll be mostly level grinding, but I do explore Viridian Forest along the way and take my first steps into Pewter City. So let's get started:
In this part, it'll be mostly level grinding, but I do explore Viridian Forest along the way and take my first steps into Pewter City. So let's get started:
- Spoiler:
- I start off by heading back west from Viridian and level grinding Mankey up to Level 10. After that, I head back and heal up.
I check out my Pokédex real quick for the hell of it (not like I'm going to try and fill this up or anything). I found some of the features kinda cool (for a game from way back when).
It's now time to move out to Route 2!
There's actually not much to see on this route since part is blocked off by cut trees, so I move on to Viridian Forest:
Viridian Forest soundtrack.
I quickly find a hidden antidote in a tree:
After that, I start searching for my next team member: A Pikachu!
While I'm searching, I continue to level grind with Mankey. I run into a lot of bugs along the way, including:
KakunaMatata.
Eventually, Mankey get's to level 11 and learns a new move:
This will be very handy against Brock's Pokémon!
During one battle with a Weedle, Mankey get's Poisoned, so I have to use one of my Antidotes...
I continue my search for Pikachu and continue training. Along the way, I find a Pokéball in the grass (not hidden):
Still training Mankey at this point since I still haven't found what I'm looking for (gotta love a music reference ). I get him to level 12 and eventually switch him with Charmander because of low PP.
Right after switching to Charmander, this happens:
Fearful that I might KO it, I decide to try and catch it without attacking it.
Lucky catch!
Now that Pikachu is caught, I switch him to the front and check his stats:
He has a Brave nature (Atk +/Speed -).... Not great, but I don't really care because it's Pikachu! :D
After some training, he get's to level 6 and learns Tail Whip.
I then find a Potion in the grass (not hidden):
After a few more wild Pokémon battles, I have to use a Potion on Pikachu.
I forgot that there's some sort of feature in Fire Red/Leaf Green that involves using items on Pokémon:
I still can't remember what it's about though (I'll look it up later).
After getting Pikachu to level 7, I start battling the trainers in the area:
All of them are Bug Catchers with Caterpie/Metapod and Weedle/Kakuna teams (all of them were different lineups).
During one of the battles, Pikachu get's to Level 8 and learns a new move:
Unfortunately, it's not an attack that does damage, and the only one that does (Thundershock) runs out of PP. So I'm now switching between Pikachu and Charmander during battles to train Pikachu more.
Eventually, I find another Antidote in the middle of the road:
Another Potion wasn't far from it:
After more battles, I get Pikachu up to level 9 and Charmander to level 13 and:
That could come in handy against Brock if something happens to Mankey.
After a bit more training to get Pikachu to level 10, I decide to leave the forest and head for Pewter City:
There's a bit of grass before coming into Pewter, so I decide to get Charmander up to level 14 before heading into the city.
After a few wild battles, I make it into the city:
Pewter City soundtrack.
I head over to the Pokémon Center to heal up and take a break:
And that wraps up this section! Next time, I'll be exploring the city and having my first Gym battle. Until then, see ya!

Re: Let's Play Pokémon Fire Red! Canceled due to screenshot issues...
Welcome to Part 6! This part is a bit shorter than the others because my computer was acting up a bit while I was playing, causing the game to act up occasionally...
Anyway, in this part, I explore most of Pewter City and take on the gym leader: Brock. So let's get started:
Anyway, in this part, I explore most of Pewter City and take on the gym leader: Brock. So let's get started:
- Spoiler:
- First thing to explore in Pewter City is the Pokémon Center. There's a few interesting things to see and hear in this Center, like this old guy talking to someone on his phone:
Uhoh.... Team Rocket is around? That's not good...
Next thing that's interesting around here is a Jigglypuff that can sing......
Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.............
*snot bubble pops* Huh? Oh..... I fell asleep....
So yeah, it 'sings' (if you can call it that...). Moving on:
If I remember correctly, if you enter the right words, you get the Mystery Gift thing on here, but I'm not going to bother with that...
Eventually, I leave the Pokémon Center and check out a few other things, like this notice:
Also mentions to call the Pewter Police if I see the thieves.
Then I talk to this guy who asks if I've seen the Museum. I say no, so he drags me to see it:
After telling me about it (like how I have to pay to get in....), he leaves. I decide to check out a few other things before going in. I find out that there isn't much else to check out though, so I go in.
50 Pokédollars!? THAT'S AN OUTRAGEOUS PRICE!!! AND WHO ARE YOU CALLING A CHILD!?
Grumble grumble....... *pays the 50*
There appears to be a part of the museum that's only accessible from another entrance, but the entrance is cut off by a cut tree...
In the parts we can check out, there's a few interesting things to see, such as fossils:
The second floor has a space exhibit:
Old guy has an important date memorized:
Cookies to anyone who can figure out what happened on that date.
After checking out the museum, I head over to the Gym:
Going in, I talk to the guy who gives out advice (blah blah blah blah....).
There's only one trainer in this Gym, and Mankey handles his Pokémon (a Geodude and Sandshrew) easily. Mankey goes up a level to 13 during the battle.
Now it's time to meet Brock:
With only 2 Pokémon (a Geodude and a Onix), a Fighting type like Mankey has a big advantage! :D
So now the battle begins:
Gym Leader Battle soundtrack.
The first matchup is Mankey vs. Geodude:
Mankey handles him easily.
After Onix comes out and Mankey uses a Low Kick, I could clearly see a badge in my future:
One more Low Kick, and:
Mankey also gets up to level 14! :D
I then get my badge right away:
One step closer to being the champ!
After the battle, Brock gives me a TM:
It's Rock Tomb. I don't really need it right now, but it could come in handy later.
And that's about it for this part! A little bit longer than I thought it would be. Next time, we'll be checking out Mt. Moon and seeing what Team Rocket is up to around here. Until then, see ya!
