Which Starter Pokémon should I choose (even though I'll probably go with Charmander)?

Welcome to my LP of Fire Red! I'm very excited to be doing this since this is the first time I've played a Kanto-based game (the horror D:).
So enough with this chit chat and let's get started!

Oh look! It's Professor Oak (AKA: Gramps)!
What follows is Gramps and his ramblings about Pokémon... *falls asleep*
*5 hours later*
Gramps: "What's your name kid?"
*snot bubble pops* Huh? Oh.... Name.... Hmmmmm.......
I decide to not use my name this time and go with Red.
Gramps: "Now here's your rival who is also my grandson!"
Uhoh.... Gramps is losing his memory.... Better help him get it back...
Interesting how Blue isn't a choice, but I guess since the other game is Leaf Green this time, Green was the better choice.
Eh, I still think Blue is the better choice. :I
Ah good, he remembers now.... Let's hope he doesn't forget that he's supposed to give me a Pokémon soon... :I
So now everyone has been named! Now the fun part: Getting to play the game! :D
I start out in my room in front of the tv playing a game. Let's see what kind of game:
A NES? In a game from 2004? Either it was something done for nostalgia, or Red's mom is cheap. :I
Now to adjust the settings:
Gotta get that text speed to fast. I also changed the border to a blue one.
After that, I check out the rest of the room and eventually get over to the PC:
Let's see if there's anything in storage:
Yay! Free Potion!
And so, with that, I shall get to bed for now since it's late:
And that's it for now! I do have a poll open at the top with the starter choices. I'm thinking about choosing Charmander (because Charizard is awesome and it's the mascot of this game), but I may go with another. So I'd like you guys to vote! Which Starter should I choose?

Hey man, you gotta go by the poll even though it has 3 votes for Charmander already.

Welcome to the second part of my Fire Red LP!
In this part, I'll be choosing my first Pokémon and taking my first steps into Viridian City! So let's continue:

My first steps downstairs!
....... I now realize how annoying so many screenshots can be.... @_@
So yeah, from now on, there's not going to be as many since I can't really sort the screenshots.....
Anyway, after going downstairs, I check out the different things, like the TV:
"Suddenly, a train comes out of nowhere!"
....... *turns off the TV*
After talking with mom a bit, I head outside:
Pallet Town Soundtrack.
After looking around and chatting with the locals, I head over to Blue's house:
No Blue inside, but his sis is there:
After pointlessly checking out a few other things, it's time to head to Oak's lab:
Buuuuuuuut..........
That grass over there looks interesting! I think I'll go check it out first! :D
Uhoh...... Busted.... D:
Gramps starts to ramble a bit again..... *falls asleep*
*gets grabbed by Gramps and is dragged to his lab*
*snot bubble pops and realizes what's happening*
HELP!!! I'M BEING OAKNAPPED!!! DD:
Oh yeah, he's supposed to be giving me a Pokémon....

After entering the lab, we find Blue is here as well:
Uhoh, Gramps is losing his memory again.....
After a bit more rambling from Gramps:
Time to choose!
Gramps: "Ummmmmmmm..... Who are you again???"
*takes this chance to choose first*
The first ball on the table has Bulbasaur in it:
Let's see the other options first.
The middle ball has Squirtle:
And the last one has the one I want:
Now Blue chooses his:
D: NUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU!!!!! NOW HE HAS A TYPE ADVANTAGE OVER ME!!!
Maybe I should have let him pick first..... Oh well....
Only because you got the one with the type advantage....
After choosing, I try to sneak out before Gramps starts another one of his ramblings.....
Craaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaap........
So it's time for my first official battle!
Let's make this quick before Gramps........
Gramps: "Blah blah blah blah blababa blabity blah......"
Oh God......
Gramps: "Blah blah, card games, blah blah blah, attack mode, blah."
Uhoh, another memory laps.... He thinks we're dueling..... *facepalms*
After the rambling ends, the du.... Battle begins.....
Not much to see here, just scratch away, and gg.
Yay! Level up! :D
No, Bulbasaur would have been a crappier choice.....
Anyway.......
Gramps: "Blah blah blah blah blah blabble blab......."
....... Not more rambling.......
Eventually, the rambling ends and Blue says this memorable line:
I decide to check out a few other things before heading out myself:
*ignores the voice in my head and pushes a button*
Ooooooooooops..........
After cleaning up the mess I made, I finally head out.
I go back home to say bye to mom first:
Always good to rest. Now Charmander is all ready to go as well!
So after I head onto the first route, I quickly encounter my first wild Pokémon: A Pidgey:
*checks to see if he has any Pokéballs:
Guess I'll have to do some training!
*KOes the Pidgey*
After a few more wild Pokémon, Charmander levels up again and:
Just ahead of me, there's the Pokémart Clerk:
Free Potion! :D
After a few more wild Pokémon, I finally make it to Viridian City:

Time to heal up again:
And with that, it's time to take a break from my LP.
We'll continue exploring Viridian City in the next part (with much fewer screenshots since this took forever to sort out... @_@).

Do you build up your post as you progress or set a stopping point, compile, then post.

If I remember correctly, he can't get Eevee until much later in the game.

But he can catch a Pikachu in the forest to fill that electric spot until then. It'll help with Misty.

I take screenshots along the way while I'm playing and make the post after I stop playing. Welcome to Part 3!
This time, we'll be exploring Viridian City and the surrounding areas, then running a quick errand. So let's get started:

- Quickly looking around town, the only thing I find is a Potion behind a Cut tree (via a back entrance to the area). After that, it's time to check out the Poké Mart!
As soon as I head in, the clerk notice me:
Uhoh.... Do they have something against Pallet Town people!?
Clerk: "Can you deliver this to Professor Oak?"
Oh..... Phew......
So I get a parcel to deliver to Gramps.
Unfortunately, the guy won't let me buy anything until I deliver it.....
So anyway, we're heading back to Pallet Town! But first, let's check out a few more things, like the Trainer School!
Heading in, it's a very small school (only one student), but there's the traditional blackboard with all the status ailments (Poison, Burn, etc.) listed on it. There's also a notebook with other boring info. I decide to look through it anyway for the hell of it...
After flipping through a few pages, the girl sitting there notices what I'm doing:
Sorry....
Time to check out other things, like.......
Dafuq???
So yeah, there's an old guy in the middle of the road. I try to go buy him and see what happens:
Claims that the rest of the way is his 'private property' or something like that.......
His granddaughter apologizes and says he hasn't had his coffee yet today.
Ah, so this is the hyperactive guy who had a double shot of espresso in GSC/HGSS. Something tells me he needs to go to coffeeaholics anonymous...
So anyway, I won't be going that way for a while.
I check out a few more buildings. One has a guy and his daughter in it. Guy has a Spearow nicknamed 'Speary.' Clever.....
After that, I decide to head west towards Route 22 for a bit. After level grinding a bit, I reach the end of the route and:
Going inside, I try to get through, but there's a guard...
Guard: "Let me see your badges."
Me: "Um..... I don't have any...."
Guard: "YOU DON'T EVEN HAVE THE BOULDER BADGE YET!?!"
*gets grabbed by the guard and tossed out on my ass*
Ow......
Okay, not all of that happened, but he did comment on me not having the Boulder Badge yet.
I level grind a bit more and get Charmander to level 9! Then I remembered that I haven't really taken a good look at Charmander yet:
He has a Lax nature (Def. +/Sp. Def. -). Not the best for him, but oh well...
After that, I decide it's time to head back to Pallet Town. I take the shortcut through Route 1 over the ledges to get back faster.
As soon as I get back, I head to Oak's Lab and deliver the parcel to Gramps:
It's a custom Pokéball that he ordered.
Then Blue enters:
Uhoh.... He's starting to inherit his grandpa's forgetfulness.....
So anyway, Gramps has something for us:
Yay! Pokédex! (note: I won't be trying to 'catch 'em all' in this LP)
Gramps also gives us 5 Pokéballs!
In exchange for all of that, we have to hear him ramble again..... *falls asleep*
After a few hours, he finishes rambling. Blue is about to head out, but says he's going over to Daisy's first to get a map. He then tells me something like I should get one too, but not to bother asking his sister for one since she wouldn't give one to me.
I go over there anyway, but first, I go home for a sec to rest up Charmander.
Now that Charmander is ready to go, I head over to Daisy's.
Turns out that Blue is a horrible liar and his sister is of of the nicest and most generous people there is:
Yay! I have a map now! I quickly register it and prepare to head back to Viridian City.
We'll cover that part next time. Until then, see ya!

I'll probably only catch Pokémon that I like, then, after I have a full party, if I find a better one, swap out.
