Which game should I play?
Re: Let's Play Pokémon Green!
I, for one, blame my experience with Black 2.

Re: Let's Play Pokémon Green!
Guess I should update Pokémon Green because it's St. Patrick's Day. :V
Due to circumstances out of my control, Pokémon Green got closed before I could save. This meant I had to beat Brock again.

Chapter 5 - Towards moon mountain
- Look, *you* try coming up with a unique title for every update >:(:
- Bah, the Boy Scout's Degud is really fucking annoying.
And so is Sand Attack. I'd trade Incon over to Generation II just so he'd have Vine Whip by now...
My current team of Pets. Bulby's currently technically out of the rotation because his level is extremely high. Thankfully, most trainers on No. 3 Highway (aka Route 3) are either lower-leveled then Tarburchi(it's cooler then Tarxi)'s Pets or have only one Pet. There's even a few with Teaches/Telans, which is basically free EXP.
w, you peep me, do you?
: Not just now, no. I saw you for a while. ...unless you mean it in a different way then I think you are.
For whatever reason, Lief had to be pretty much right next to her in order for her to notice him.
Gah! The miniskirt is alive and controlling the girl! You know what we must do, Lief!
: Look up it?
...no. We have to beat it up and make the spirit possessing it leave!
: But then we can look up it, right?
No. No we cannot.
: Aw.
(Random fact: this is, in fact, the Lass's Japanese name. They can translate Miniskirt right, but not Takeshi or Pikachu...)
Pikachu has been chosen to handle Bobo because, you know, Electric-type. Though Gust being a normal-type move is hindering Pikachu's awesomeness. Electron Shock, though, is still hella awesome, bringing Bobo down to half health in one shot.
Unfortunately, Sprinkle Sand (Sand Attack) + variable damage = Pikachu's demise.
According to Bulbapedia, fainting in Japan is called "near death". Which makes a certain degree of sense as to why it's called "die" here, but at the same time not really.
I have no idea as to why I sent out Kelar for the kill, given that his replacement is coming up. What I do know, though, is that his attack stat is looking poor.
...wait, no, that's Teach. Which also explains the 14 Protect.
Instead, Kelar has these stats on level up! ...I'm still replacing him.
Sharpness, rather then being a logical attack-raising move, is instead Quick Attack. Interestingly, Quick Attack/Sharpness is the only increased priority move in Generation I (besides switching out Pets or escaping or using items (at least by the player character, I seem to recall me getting a Thunder in on Lorlei before she Full Restored in Pokémon Yellow). Counter is also the only decreased priority move, though it's at -5 for whatever reason.
Also, Kelar's moveset is shit! He's already learned half of his (non-SM or HM) moves.
Her second Pokémon was another Bobo, but it wasn't significant. Also I now hate Sand Attack.
...this is it. Fuck, is she going to commit suicide?! Lief! Do something!
: You do realize committing suicide will let everyone look up your skirt, right?
...that...um...goddammit Lief.
Her after-battle dialogue is the same as when she challenged us. Effort = 0.
eet it, don't you!
: Hey, yeah, I remember you! ...Colton, was it? No! Hisashi!
Two Beetls and a Catap, all at level 10, all still wimps.
Go, Machi! Fight for your birthright! Or something. I don't know.
Pikachu finally gains level 7! His 1-point-higher-then-his-Special-so-somewhat-better Attack will become usable at level 16 with Quick Attack. ...which will pale somewhat in comparison to Thundershock due to STAB. But hey, way to hit Ground-types!
Random move-related trivia with Pikachu: he only learns Swift by level up in Red, Green, and Blue, at level 26. In Yellow, it's replaced by Thunderbolt. He can still learn it by TM and move tutor in future generations, though.
lost.
: ...what.
I don't see a point for this location.
ld you like to put it on?
: No, I'm good.
Shorts Youngster in the original Japanese.
He has a Kelar (which is way too powerful for a Kelar).
This is Teach's level. Two more 'til Beedrill time!
Nider also gains a level. And Scratch.
...sweet Jesus what the flying fuck.
So something fun in the original games is the fact that Wrap (called Sowing here because ???) and the like will prevent you from attacking while it's going on. This makes Bulby die eventually. Thankfully, I managed to get one more hit in.
Pikachu and Machi fell down, but Nider managed to finish Partn off because the Child was stupid and attacked Nider with Poison Sting. Nider promptly scratched off the Partn's last hit points.
Yay Nider!
don't expect it
: ...what.
eels not good!
: Hey. >:(
Gah! More possessive miniskirts!
(She has a level 10 Kelar and a Level 10 Nider. A male Nider, not a female Nider.)
When paralysis activates.
Kelar also levels up.
ompete!
: I'm not sure that's a good idea. You don't have any stat EXP...
One more level! (Teach, of course)
And one for Machi!
: ...and you don't know how to fight with the Pets properl - oh, we're done already?
(The dialogue suddenly jumped ahead after what he said was fully written down, so I can't give you anything.)
(He had a Catap and a Telan.)
: No, I did not touch you, I was like ten feet away. ...why? Did you want me to touch you? In that case, no. I will not touch you.
(She has a level 14 Puddi, also known as a Jigglypuff, or Purin, which is Pudding in Japanese. Hence Puddi.)
So, uh, something happened. I have no idea what. The weird thing is, it can be exited out of. Nothing happens; Pikachu isn't asleep, otherwise Puddi would be beating the tar out of him.
Sing! The only move a Puddi has unless it got to level 9, it has a 55% chance of putting the opponent to sleep. If you select fight when asleep, you don't actually do anything. When you wake up, you don't do anything. Level 14 Puddis also have Disable/Bundle, which seals a random move on your Pet's moveset, as long as it has more then 0 PP. It also appears to be the cause of the weird glitch earlier, even though Pikachu has Chirps.
: Yes. Congratulations! Your Pet is an unholy abomonation. Kill it.
Again, that Puddi managed to wipe most of my party. I had to whip out Bulby just so I didn't die horribly.
Pikachu leveled up in a fight against a Bobo.
Teach leveled up in a Machi fight...I think.
Wait, level 10?! That means...
Teach has surpassed our understanding of life. He has surpassed teaching. He is now...Vangu.Whatever the hell that means.
Irritatingly, Vangu doesn't learn Fury Attack until level 12. Hrm.
Hrm?
Hrm?!
Hrm!
Yeah, Tolerance kinda sucks and conflicts with the other move he knows, but it's a way to deal damage, dammit.
The gap between Attack and Special grows. We really need to start beating up stuff that has high Special stats.
Thunder Wave, basically. Interesting note: before Stadium, Thunder Wave pierces Substitutes.
Nider also levels up. No new move, though.
Jesus, fucking finally. This is what I was grinding for that lead Teach to ascend to a higher plane of learning and that lead Pikachu and Nider to leveling up to 9: Puddi, aka Kelar's replacement. Screw Kelar.
Interesting fact: Jigglypuffs are one of the few Pokémon (that I know of, at least) whose Special stat didn't turn into their Special Attack stat (the other one is Flareon). Rather, it turned into their Special Defense stat, while their Special Attack got bumped up to 45, same as their Attack. This means, however, that they have a base special of 25.
She's level 3, meaning that she'll need more pampering then Teach did to actually be competent. However, Puddis also level up quicker then Teaches do, so.
Sorry, just a personal preference thing.
Bye Kelar!
Hi Purin! :D
Onwards, intoMount Moonmoon mountain*!
*As a note, I'll use the names located on the Town Map rather then other sources.
...wait shit now Lief's not wearing green now he'll get beat up or whatever those crazy Irish do
That's it for today. Next time, we actually explore moon mountain.
Also, we'll be catching Geodude, Zubat, possibly Paras and probably Clefairy next time, so you guys need to incorporate them into the party somehow. Or just sit on your thumbs, I dunno.
And before you ask, I have plans for Purin. Plans.
...not important plans, mind, but still plans.

If I remember correctly from my FRLG days, there was a hidden item there.

That was in FireRed and LeafGreen, though, and the hidden item was an Oran Berry. Berries don't exist in Generation I, ergo there is no item there.

I'm stunned that the only items listed are that Oran berry and three items for HGSS.

Re: Let's Play Pokémon Green!
Geodude may come in handy later on (though, probably not in Cerulean City :P). I don't know if Paras has any good moves back in Gen. I, but it might come in handy for Misty (though, Bulby should be fine against her).

Re: Let's Play Pokémon Green!
Bulby (and Pikachu)'ll have to do against Misty, considering Parases don't get any Grass-type moves. Starmie doesn't have any Psychic moves, so Bulby's (and a Zubat, which learns Leech Life) weakness to that is out of the question for stuff.

Re: Let's Play Pokémon Green!
If I'm to keep a Pet found in moon mountain, it'll probably be Zubat, by the virtue that Golbat has better bases then Parasect. Also because Golbat has 90 speed to Parasect's 30, making him critical more often.
Chapter 5 - In the mountain of the moon
Chapter 5 - In the mountain of the moon
- Spoiler:
Welcome back! Now we're in moon mountain, or Mount Moon if you play those filthy versions translated by Nintendo. It's very brown in here. So brown, Lief is now brown. It's just that brown.
Stone. That's incredibly creative. Man, they could've named it Geode and it would work.
Bullshit it's round, it has things that look like hair!
FireRed'sWebster'Dex entry seems to be taken from this (better translated, obviously):
Ow, that has to hurt. ...also I ponder how you pack a Geodude into a snowball, considering it's a little more then a foot in height.FireRed's Pokédex, on Geodude wrote:Its round form makes it easy to pick up. Some people have used them to hurl at each other in a snowball fight.
"Lief that name is lame"
Bite me.
Skill Machine 12 is Water Gun (here referred to as Squirt). I apply it to Purin, so she can actually fight.
What it looks like when you can't use a TM on a Pet.
...I actually said screw it to Purin and switched her out for Geode. Puddis have shit special, anyway.
"But Lief, doesn't this mean that you can't do the plan you had with Purin?"
She was mostly optional, actually. Probably should, but...eh.
Heh, Papan.
And, uh, it's level 11. ...so. Uh. Screw Geode, we're rolling it Papan style.
You may argue that Geode will be able to gain more Stat EXP because he's lower level, but even if you're level 100 you never stop earning Stat EXP, so it's a moot point.
Supersonic has been translated to Ultrasonic, so I can't make any Sonic jokes.
Blood Suck is, obviously, Papan's main form of attack. Machi being Flying, he takes only 1 damage from it, even from the level 11 Papan we caught.
Machi is awesome.
Upon serving nine levels in duty, he gains Gaze (Leer), allowing his Pecks to become even more effective.
ack quickly!
Chibater? I'm guessing that's Paras, because Papan and Stone don't match up with it at all, and Clefairy is Pippi, if my knowledge of Japanese Pokemon names is correct.
y in cave are waiting here,
: Yes. And?
Aw, it's so adora-
fuck it's level 14
Glare at it
Machi might not seem that intimidating, but he is
She-demon! (Sing, if you can't tell)
Okay...someone with physical attacks to take advantage of the Defense drop...
She-demon, go!
Sing has 55 accuracy.
How does it hit so often
Bulby, evidently, is deaf. Yay deafness
Although he's affected by Chirps. Hrm.
And that's the story of how a deaf toad-dinosaur-plant thing saved my battling career from a pink fairy thing that supposedly came from the moon. I never thought I'd say that, but there.
Hey cool, ladder! ...er, but this room still has plenty of...room. Let's look.
especially because I have no healing items
...curious...sugar? What the hell.
...actually, it's a Rare Candy. Curious sugar...what the hell? Google Translate gives it as Mysterious Candy, why couldn't you at least do Curious Candy?
Escape Rope. In the Generation I games, it actually warps you to the last Pokemon Center you healed at
Aha, a Moon Stone! These evolve Puddis, Pipis, and the evolved forms of the Niders. I vaguely remember a guide stating that there's not enough Moon Stones to evolve every Pokemon in the game that needs one. That's blatant bullshit (even if you don't find the hidden Moon Stone, you have enough to evolve each of the Pokemon that needs one plus one left over. Unless it meant "you don't have an unlimited supply of them", which is true, but unless you wanted a full team of Nidoking/queens you shouldn't have a problem.
Isn't he a little boy, is he?
:
Oh no, a bear!
(He has two Stones and a Yeewa. They were painful to fight. Painful.)
But on the bright side, Pikachu got to level 10, making all of our party double-digits!
Me too, bud. Me too.
So, I used the leave hole rope because my team is bleeding profusely (...wait does that make sense I don't care) and Papan is dead. You bastard, you killed Papan!
ous!
Fun fact: due to physics, Papan is the best guy to send out against Grass/Poison types, dealing x4 damage with Leech Life and taking x1/4 damage from Grass attacks and x1/2 damage against Poison attacks. Especially considering Unides have Absorb, which is the same power as Leech Life (20) but runs off of the special stat rather then physical. Unide has a higher Special then Papan has Attack, so it'll hurt more.
So...I sent Pikachu out thinking this was a Staryu for whatever reason.
I was wrong.
Stame get Vine Whip earlier then Incon do, so uh.
So going down where Lief fought the hiker...
...brings us here! ...where ever here is.
Oh Arceus the brownness is spreading
Ah, Teach's tool of the trade: wisdom! Or wisdo, whatever. No, don't ask me why a mushroom-controlled bug is called wisdo except for irony.
...is Chinese caterpillar fungus actually a thing?
Also Webster seems to make it sound like man caused this to happen. Which is cruel yet also fits with the man-made theme scattered through Generation I (Porygon, Mewtwo, Grimer, Magnemite...)
Level ups for all!
Miracle of miracles, Pipi! (This is the first floor, so I had a 1% chance of running into one. Sweet.)
Yeah!
Pipi, the...monster monster. Or monster Pocket Monster, I guess. Or Monster Pet.
So, uh, since I've been sitting on this update for a while now, so I'll be posting this. However, it's poll time! I've caught all Pets available at moon mountain, so we need to pick which ones we'll be training up:
Geode the Stone- Pros: Nice attack stat, incredible defense (100!)
- Cons: Has more weaknesses then types he takes normal damage from, most of which are pitted against his horrible Special stat (30). Also learns an entire five attack moves, two of which cause him to faint. Also is level 8. Also can't evolve past Graveler because, you know, I can't trade.
Papan- Pros: Can drain enemy HP, is fast (like sonic fa - no?), and has weaknesses we shouldn't be seeing for a bit (except Bug, but Bug-types kinda suck :/), and has an awesome name. Also is already level 11.
- Cons: Low base stats.
Pipi- Pros: Adorable, has only one weakness that we shouldn't be seeing for a bit, and has the highest base stat total of the moon mountain Pets.
- Cons: Can't use STAB and Special due to how damage categories are, and is kinda bad with attack. Also is the lowest level of the Pets caught inside Mount Moon.
Wisdo- Pros: High attack. ...that's the best I got. Oh, and it's level 10.
- Cons: Can only attack with Scratch until level 20. Also has a double weakness to four types, all of which have a gym.
Purin the Puddi- Pros: Has Sing, which can be devastating. Also a wad of HP bubblegum.
- Cons: Only has Sing, is level 3, mediocre Attack, awful Special, and her evolved form looks deranged.
And introducing...
*accidentally hits F4, loading my last state*
*tries to reset the game to fix it, but ends up before the battle with Brock*
...- Pros: Nice attack stat, incredible defense (100!)
