Re: The TARDIS
So, I finally got around to watching the first episode of Dr Who on Netflix after enough Doctor Whooves fanworks got me curious enough to check it out :T
So, quick question, want me to review each episode like that :T?
- Dr. Who Episode 1 Review: Rose:
So, the pacing felt very very crappy at the start, and felt like it was trying to make Rose's mundane life more eventful looking than it was and sort of felt way too forced. Then we have the scene in the basement, it did good at keeping the atmosphere and the details with the manikins was done quite well.
Then we have the Doctor's entrance. He came off as witty, charming, and an overall likeable character. I approve of him. Also I like the boomI love you Cap for adding the perfect thingy
Then back to her home life, and we see her mom acting like, well, a person trying to make money, and her boyfriend seems worried and stuff, though I have no idea what they said at this point but something about him wanting to take her to a pub to help calm down, but he really wanted to watch the game so she let him?
The next day scene with the plastic hand. Oh man, it was so cheesy and poorly done, ugh, I almost felt obligated to just stop watching at that point but stuck with it due to the doc's personality keeping it interesting, and I just assumed it was done badly cause it was the pilot...but ugh, IT LOOKED LIKE A CHILD PRETENDING TO BE STRANGLED BY A TOY, NOT LIKE SOMEONE FIGHTING WITH SOMETHING!!!
The scene where he explains who he is, how he can feel the earth flying through space, and describes it in such an eloquent way, that got me enjoying it again. Also the tardis gets its first appearance and is quite...intriguing
Then comes the hunt to find out more about that Doc, going to Clive's house(I liked the guy as the show didn't set him up as some nutjob conspiracy theorist, but more as an average joe who's investigating something he finds amazing) also we have Mikey(Micky?) getting eaten by a garbage can and that was done much better than the hand scene.
Plastic Black Man did freak me out some, and the restaurant scene was quite nice with the whole "Would you like some wine?" thing done well, and the fight was also amusing.
Then we get to look in the tardis and.....its a lot less impressive than I assumed it'd be from what I had heard of it...looks like an old worn down warehouse...
And of course, we get the beautiful scene of the Doc explaining how he could forget about her bf's death, what is one life when it is lost trying to save billions? He really did a good job acting n stuff...though I wonder how he failed to realize that the GIANT CIRCULAR RECIEVER BROADCASTER THINGAMAJIG THAT WAS TOO BIG TO HIDE WAS IN FACT THE GIANT CIRCULAR FERRIS WHEEL OUT IN THE OPEN...but I'll chalk it up to a brain fart.
And then we find where the show's budget went, the effects with the consciousness thingamajig. The scene was quite nice...with the exception of the Mickey/Rose thing, they sorta felt a little unneeded and bland there.
Also one thing about the mall scene, WHY DID THEY HAVE TO KILL OFF CLIVE?! They introduced a character, made him likeable, and could have easily been used as a plot point later on (regular guy then tries to expose doc to the world and they have to prevent it) but noooooo, they kill him off
Anyway then we jump to Rose doing a thing, then they're safe, Rose comments on bf being useless back there, then uses him as one of the reasons she can't leave...then doc mentions time travel and she happily leaves everyone who loves her behind without even coming up with some excuse to tell them why she's leaving. I expected Mike and Mom to be lost in the chaos, meaning she would have nothing to lose by joining the doc, but nope, she just comes off as a flake
Overall, I (most of) it, I'll probably check out more episodes. Also I hope Rose actually develops into a likeable character, because so far I don't like her...

It does get better later on, especially in the later seasons. Trust me.
And if you want to do a review of each episode, go for it!

- Episode 2 Review: End of the World:
- I liked this episode, though once more Doctor stole the show with his wit and charm, though it was more so in the feels. I'll go over that later.
Firstly, I like how fleshed out the 'world' is in that they have a system of aristocrats and celebrities watching something which is considered artsy(the destruction of the Earth which turns out to be one of the big cradles of life since plant peeps evolved there). I also liked how 'accurate' the artifacts of earth were, not just that but also the gifts of peace. That leads me to the aliens, which I liked. Most of them were neat and creative, and the last human was creepy as all heck.
Plotwise....it was interesting, though it felt like the main point of the episode was to get Rose to gain an experience she could use to sympathize with Doc's situation. Also the fan scene was quite cool. Another neat scene was watching the last human die, simply because of Doc's words, 'everything has its time' or something like that. It helped show a combination of anger and disgust at what was done, as well as how jaded he's become from seeing death.
Also at least we're seeing Rose doubt her choice, meaning she was likely caught up in the moment when she made her choice, so she's slowly getting some depth :T
