Got some more information about the accident. There were actually two blasts, the first was normal, the second was much larger and is what is considered the accident. These were not small rocks that were thrown, these were good sized boulders with a volume of like 8 quarts. This is known because one of the places hit was a NAPA Auto Parts store and they said it was about the size of a box of oil, which I know to be large enough to hold 8 quarts of oil.

The Virginia Department of Mines and Minerals has shut the quarry down indefinitely, charged the company with two violations so far, and wants to keep the quarry shut down by filling the quarry with water.

I'm personally not in favor of a permanent closure because this quarry supplies gravel for projects in Reston and Herdon, as well as the Silver Line project (a late-running and probably overbudget DC Metro line to Dulles Airport and beyond into Loudoun County)

Yeah, that wouldn't be great having the quarry shut down. Gravel and other rock prices would go up considerably in your area...

Maybe not considerably, perhaps Loudoun County's greatest industry is quarrying. There are quarries just about everywhere, with a couple in neighboring counties. Oddly enough though, they aren't very major employers nor would most of the towns in Loudoun be considered mining towns.

I do expect major delays in those projects though until they manage to get contracts with other quarries in the area.

No. But I did notice that China had a huge stock drop today. So Greece isn't the only country with financial trouble.

I'm very grateful for what he has provided my childhood with. I started playing Pokemon Silver as early as possible (around 4 or 5) after I saw the anime at around the age of 3, and I replayed that game like crazy. How fitting that I'm playing Soul Silver today with such excitement and bliss.
