You can't. It's a cloned Pokémon, so every aspect about it has to be legitimate, since it was created from a (presumably) legitimate Pokémon. There's no way to tell which Pokémon is the "original", so you won't get in trouble.

Alternatively, it could have been encountered with an "all wild Pokemon are Shiny" cheat. I know I've used those before... DX

The main problem lies with how Niantic handled it. They helped set up the event...not at all. They knew that they had at most 20k people coming, how could they completely drop the ball? At launch I could see that - even with Pokémon being as popular as it is, I could see being blindsided by just how many players there were - but at an event with a hard cap? They didn't think to see if they could support that many people? I mean, if they couldn't, don't do the fucking event. Make it more worldwide. It's better than this.
Then, of course, there's the things outside of Niantic's control but they should have planned for anyways. Like people who aren't in Chicago wanting to go there. From my current location, it would take a bit over four and a half hours to go to Grant Park, Chicago. I'm not near Chicago, by any means - I'm on the opposite side of Illinois (and the Mississippi :V) but that's a longass time. A plane would cut it down to one hour, but that would drive up the costs even more - I'd probably need to stay a night in a hotel. Add to the fact that it's an absurdly hot summer (~107 degrees fahrenheit here, and I am willing to bet it's not that much cooler in Grant Park), and you've got a lot of hot people who had to pay a pretty sizeable opportunity cost to be here (travel time, work time off, cash money)... to play a game that isn't working. I'd be pissed, and humans don't tend to be the most rational creatures when they're pissed.
tl;dr this was a mess waiting to happen and Niantic done fucked up

Okay, am I the only one who is a bit pissed off that Sun/Moon don't have a National Dex? Still love these games, but...really?
Also, something else I've noticed is that I seem to have skipped an unusually high amount of locations while going through the main story. I don't remember another Pokémon game that I did that in...

I'm honestly fine(ish) with it because the only Pokémon that are in Kalos that aren't in the 'dex are the Island Scan Pokémon.
