There's an update for Pokémon X and Y. Nothing major, but there's a glitch-fix of Pokémon not learning new moves if they evolved through Wonder Trade, and...something else, I think.

It fixed an exploit where opponents in online battles could see your exact team, moves and all, before the battle and see which moves you choose during the battle with a special program, as well as an exploit that allowed you to outright look at the values of your IVs. That's why you can't use any online features until you download it.

but looking at IVs could actually be useful because you don't have to muck around with EVs or look at a Pokémon right after it's caught So if you value online-ness, you might want to get the download right away.

why game freak and nintendo won't let us see our Mon's IV's is beyond me too.

Clearly they want to make things harder on competitive players.

A bigger question, though, is why they won't let us see EVs, which would help determining EVs be easier without knowing arcane sorcery.

They let us see an EV chart and they show us how many EVs we get and for what stat in Super Training. All you have to do is keep track. And you don't even have to do that if you're not going for a complex spread.
