I found my 3DS right before we headed out to GameStop and Snazz's musical.

I only got to charge my 3DS a little bit before we left, so it died during the musical's intermission right after I caught my second Pokémon Pikapek...I didn't get to save in time though, so I'll have to recatch it.

Guys, I finally got back on the Pokemon bandwagon with Gen VI but I don't own Sun/Moon and I'm falling off the wagon. I wanted to see the new Pokemon and I have one question.

What the FRICK is an Ultra Beast and why do they look like Guillermo del Toro's fever dream?

The return of customizing your character is very appreciated by me.

I'm limiting my team to Alola Native/Alolan Form Pokémon for the main game.

Not far enough yet to confirm. Though it does appear there are no Gym Leaders?

I Think I'm almost done with the second island and I haven't seen hide or hair of a HM. They're replaced with pokemon that you can summon that you ride on.

So wait, flying is like soaring in ORAS now, or is it just like previous games? Y'all are probably too early in the games to know for sure, but if you do find out, that would be awesome. I like soaring.

It is completely and 100% true. Ride Pokémon are their replacements, and they work just like key items, down to being able to summon them with Y.

Some of the cooler HMs are still available as TMs, though.

Fly's just like the old games. You just gotta summon a specific Ride now.

Just noticed that the game doesn't respond to the d-pad like previous games have.

That's because they can act as shortcuts for the aforementioned Ride Pokémon.

I'm surprised at the variety of Pokémon in each area so far. Like, dang, I have a lot of Pokémon and I am just now finishing the first island (by finishing, I mean I'm now collecting all that I couldn't before without Tauros).
My Rowlet just evolved into a Dartrix! My precious son. I don't think my team has really been settled yet--there are quite a few weaknesses I'm uncomfortable with. I'mean kinda wanting to replace some pokemon, but I want to give some of the Alolan pokemon I have a chance to prove themselves/see how strong they are when they evolve and whatnot.

Overall, I'm pretty impressed thus far. I'm liking the RotomDex and Team Skull a lot more than I thought I would. Lillie isn't as mean as I was expecting her to be. I'm shocked at how the flow of the game keeps the wild pokemon and other trainers as strong as or stronger than my current team (like holy cow, Route 3 was killing me).

The game is certainly taking me longer than I was expecting just because I've been exploring so much. Battles are taking longer because the pokemon are strong, not to mention how annoying [spoiltext]other pokemon calling for each others help after the first trial[/spoiltext] has been for me (just let me catch my pokemon!! Gaaah!) For whatever reason, I've been determined to catch every new pokemon I see. I've only failed so far in getting Grimer and Spinda, but I'm working on that last one.
