Active Time Battles! Crystals! Job Shift System! Bartz! THIS CAN ONLY BE FFV!
In the beginning, there were the Crystals,
and the crystals were with the Void
and the crystals were the Void.
They were with the Void in the beginning.
Through them all things were made,
without them nothing was made that has been made.
In them were life, and that life was the light of all mankind.
The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome.
-Great Turtle Book of Wisdom, Chapter 1
(Hey man, there's no real lore thing at the beginning of FFV!)
I guess we should actually get on with the game now, huh?
Chapter 1 - Oh fuck, Sepiroth succeded! ...oh wait, this is a fail meteor.
- Spoiler:
- Here's the video for the introduction to FFV as it is the most boring part of the game and I hate it with a passion.
And yes it's for the SNES version but whatever.
Anyway, for those not wanting to watch the video:- Spoiler:
- A king sets out on a journey with his daughter wanting him to be safe. An effimate pirate captain notices the wind stopped blowing through his hair and therefore has stopped flowing. The king walks up to a crystal, which then explodes.
Also there's an old guy which says he must hurry.
Oh yeah, there's also a dude in a forest with his chocobo (the chicken thing) on his right. A meteor falls. As a Boy Scout, he must journey to the meteor and make sure nobody is hurt!
Link to what may very well be Boco/Boko's theme: Go Go Boco!
Chocobos are a recurring element in the Final Fantasy series, getting started in the second game (like Cids and...some other recurring element, I think). While on them, they give no fucks about random encounters - they just don't happen while you're riding a chocobo. After Final Fantasy II, a fat chocobo started appearing. It could store extra items. After Final Fantasy III, variations of chocobos started appearing, differing in abilities. The basic two other models are white and black. Black we'll get to later, but white chocobos (which don't appear in this game) restore a lot of the party's MP for free. Usually it knocks you up to full.
Anyway, a little to the east, and we arrive at the meteor!
...I never considered what would happen if you went north instead of east. Hm.
This is my only pet peeve of this translation of FFV: the fact that Boco is spelt B-o-k-o, instead of B-o-c-o.
Anyway, yeah, Boy Scout jumps off of Boco (fuck it, we're spelling it with a 'c') and tells him to wait. His portrait is much better then in the iOS version. *shudder*
I fudged the screenshot, but Boy Scout is supposed to have an exclamation point. Why?
I'd say two monsters that were abducting a pink-haired girl and suddenly noticed you are a good reason to have a exclamation point over your head, wouldn't you?
Anyway, here's the Active Time Battle system in a nutshell: see that bar next to Boy Scout's HP? In real time, that thing fills up. When it fills, whoever owns the bar (in this case, Boy Scout) has his/her command menu pop up. Currently, the only commands slotted in are Attack and Item, but that will be remedied. Eventually. Command executes, lather, rinse, repeat.
What made the idea so novel for its time was that it's not turn based. The gauge fills in real time. Enemies also have a gauge. It works like yours. Basically: take too long selecting your command, and you're done for. This encouraged quick thinking and/or arranging your spell lists so the commands you needed were at the top (in FFIV). This can be slightly remedied by selecting "Wait" instead of "Active" in the Config menu, but if you do that, you're a wuss.
The ATB system slowly evolved. First, in IV, it was just "wait for a command window to pop up". Then, in V, the gauge was added, so it became clearer as to when the command window would pop up. Then, in VI, the system reached its peak and let whoever's command window popped up switch if they have a full ATB gauge too. This is useful and I will be very disappoint if it isn't in this version.
Anyway, enough about that. You may be wondering how Boy Scout is fairing against those goblins.
Never doubt Boy Scout. Especially against goblins.
For his troubles, he gets 20 gil and 6 EXP! Woo!
Boy Scout, of course, helps this little lady up.
Hey, are you all right?
Y-yes...I believe so...*nod* I give you thanks. My name is Lenna. And you are...?
: Me?
Name Boy Scout! Due to name limits, we can only bestow a name of six characters upon him. Sadly, this means Boy Scout is out (BScout works, though.)
Also, fun fact: in Japan (and thus the original SNES translation), he is known as Butz. This was obviously changed, as it sounds like...well, Butts.
Anyway, suggest a name, and I may very well choose it (especially if a lot of people like it)! Please, though, no inappropriate names. Like Butts.
Butz is okay, though. Gotta respect it.

Sounds like a twisted version of the beginning of the Gospel of John.
Also, awwwww.... Does this mean no more FF1?

No, because honestly, for me it got kinda boring. I might get back to it someday, though.
It might also have something to do with incentive. I beat FFI before. FFV I did not.

We've already met a chick named Lenna, and we're going to meet men named Galuf, Farid, and Zok. Are you trying to invoke Aerith and Bob?
Besides, with the job shift system (trademark), anyone can be a thief.
The closest we're going to get to another thief is a pirate, and we can't name 'im.Lux wrote:Name him Lief, unless you find another thief, then name that thief Lief :I

Cyrus is the best pokémon villain which I think made valid points and I most likely would have helped him out if I lived in the pokémon world :I

But we're on the not-villan side.
