Re: Sburb Alpha (Homestuck Thread)
Okay, had a while to think about it, so my thoughts are a bit more collected now.
- ending spoilers:
- The two biggest disappointments for me were:
- It's not clear what happened to Lord English. I mean, yeah, it's pretty clear he lost, I always assumed he would lose. But did he die? Fall through the black hole? Disappear? Or just lose his powers and live? And what about the ghosts fighting him? Were they sucked in the black hole?
Was the juju meant to summon the kids? Is that why the door appeared at the same time as it did on the lily pad? Did the kids even enter the new Universe at all, or were they instantly greeted by Mr. Greenskull Buffsuspenders, and did they have to fight him? I don't know, because literally zero indication is given to the answer.
- No one did anything. Other than Calliope creating the black hole, there was no... conclusion, for anybody. And that wasn't even the same Calliope. It was an alt timeline version.
I mean, sure, [S] Collide was our big actiony animation, but I kinda expected the ending animation to include at least someone doing something. The frog got more screentime than anything else. I was expecting a character to do something symbolic to close their character arc, like Vriska dying heroically or something, but instead we got like 4 minutes of frogtime and a sneak preview of the new Universe.
Mind you, the possibility of an epilogue has alleviated a lot of these concerns. The way it stands right now, it feels like they were going for an ambiguous ending, but all it really did was chop off every hanging thread at an inappropriate point. Hopefully the epilogue can at least lead us into a properly ambiguous ending.
So with those grievances out of the way, here's one thing I'll praise about the ending: THE ANIMATION WAS BEAUTIFUL. Like, holy shit. It was honestly mesmerizing?
While I was watching the animation, I wasn't really thinking about any of the disappointments from above much, because I was too busy fangirling over how gorgeous the art was. So yeah, that's a huge plus. If the epilogue's good, I'll think a lot more positively of this ending for sure.

The final Homestuck album is out, Volume 10. The Homestuck discography now stands at 27 albums total. And of course, the final one was released on 6/12 and costs $10.25. :B
I'm listening to it right now, currently on Creata.

So apparently there's Homestuck content being released on Snapchat right now?? But I don't have a Snapchat, so I have no clue what's going on. Apparently you can find them @mspaofficial.
