After waiting for this matchup for quite awhile I was sort of worried starting this episode since without the OP and ED it was going to be roughly 10 minutes.
But before that, I'm glad I'm not the only one who thought this:

It is simultaneously the best and worst thing about V3's OP.
Start off with a brief peek into Ozpin's office showing him watching the match first as we transition to Amity Colosseum.
I love the bmg that we open up on.
Ironwood could be bothered to come down to this match.
It's not that it's a surprise, it's that I don't remember seeing him during Penny and Ciel's Doubles match. He could've been in the stadium and just got cut for time though.

The positioning at the beginning of Mercury and Ruby's skirmish leaves me a bit confused.
He confronts her at beginning of the hallway because you can see the door she entered from on the right.
But then after she uses her semblance he catches up to her and manages to knock her back, and where she lands is still a significant distance from where they first stood off.
I mean I know Merc is fast but I didn't think he could outspeed Ruby's semblance.
Ruby tries calling someone on her scroll but Merc is an expert marksman with his shooty booties.

Cinder's speech was...not horrible, but felt kind of lacking with the delivery.
I felt that way about Oobleck and Port's exchange too, as well as Ozpin and Qrow's. It's just kinda awkward with the pacing of the animation.

After "The Beginning of the End" I took more of a liking to Adam and felt sorry for his situation.
But this serves as a good reminder that Cinder wasn't the one who started the White Fang down its path of terrorism. She forced Adam to combine their forces years after the WF had been on this path. (Who all started it down that path is still up in the air. Adam might be the leader now but there's no way he took over at the age of 11-13, even if he was part of the group that got the previous leader to stand down. *is still waiting to see what connection Raven has to the WF*)
Has he fail to considered that there are fellow Faunus down there, or is the current WF mindset that any Faunus not with them is a traitor to their kind?
The WF members hesitated to attack Blake back in "The Stray" after revealing she was a Faunus despite holding Roman at sword point (might have helped that she addressed them as "Brothers of the White Fang.") so this might be the general rule but among individual members there's probably some conflict
I'd like to see Blake meet up with former friends in the WF who might not have been as aggressive as Adam but still believe this is the best path to having faunus be accepted as equals
Not the best way to go about it but Blake admits the stuff they were doing was working
I am so worried about how Grimm Invasion 2.0 is going to go down after the clusterfuck that was the first one. We've got potentially three episodes to handle it though instead of cramming it all into one, and it looks like the effects if it will be more noticeably long lasting, so I'll be optimistic for now. Looking forward to the inevitable reunion of Adam and Blake, though which episode it'll happen in remains to be seen. The next one? The finale?
If it's the latter they're gonna kill me with the build up.

Or potentially ever. A lot of theories and fan works have been built around Beacon and the other academies and kingdoms as firm-standing institutions for all of the main cast's time in training.
But if this is the opening act as Gray called it, what if this is the fall of all of that? It's been hinted at with episode titles like "Fall" and "The Beginning of the End", and the CCT episode of WoR. What if instead of following HP's set up where everything went to shit at the end of Harry's penultimate year at Hogwarts, everything is going to go to shit during Team RWBY and JNPR's very first year? What if there is no more safe havens and the kids all have to have their training out in the field?
Probably getting a bit ahead of myself here but if you would have told me that a year or two ago I wouldn't have believed you. Now I could actually see it happening, just like I could see Pyrrha kicking the bucket.
I'm guessing in all the chaos Cinder's going to head down to Beacon's basement to finish the job on Amber. Will Pyrrha be there (physically and mentally) to obtain the other half of the Fall Maiden powers? Or will Cinder claim it all?
Or will neither scenario be the case, and that popular theory that Blake will be the Fall Maiden bears fruit early? I don't think this will be the case tbh; the imagery in the V2 OP makes me think Pyrrha will obtain the Fall Maiden's Powers, though for how long she has them is up in the air.
[Tangent]My current theory on how Blake would obtain the Fall Maiden powers from Pyrrha is that it would be super sudden, like in the middle of a fight. Everyone is scattered and trying to get to Pyrrha before Cinder can claim the rest of the power. Blake manages to get close enough to Pyrrha and Pyrrha can see this, registers Blake in her mind and for the briefest of moments thinks she's saved
Only to have Cinder kill her in one swift second. Blake becomes the next host of that half of the Fall Maiden Power.
Alternatively, Pyrrha is the one going to save Blake from some enemy only to quickly murdered by another. She doesn't see it coming, so her last thoughts are of saving Blake. (all that angst for the kitty magnet shippers)[/tangent]thk u 4 reading my fanfic's depressing theory but unless Pyrrha and Blake start interacting more I don't know how else the theory is supposed to work, since Weiss as Winter seems like a pretty solid bet and Ruby and Yang being Spring and Summer, Fall's the only one left for Blake lol

I liked it! I was kind of expecting/hoping for it to be about the maidens. The spring maiden was so cute xD Summer too. Winter reminded me of Winter Schnee.
The whole story was nice and enjoyable to look at but I was hoping for more information.
My only takeaway is that last part where the sisters would visit the wizard once a year. Do the current maidens still do that? If so, what will happen the next time they go to see him? Either Amber will be noticeably absent and stuff will ensue or Cinder will go in her stead and wreck shit? I don't know. I dont' know if anything will come of that but why mention it if there was no other new information and if nothing else will come from it?

I wasn't sure if they meant that they (the sisters in the story and later on the subsequent Maidens) would visit him as a group or individually, like the seasons.
And we still don't know if a person just has to house the power to be a Maiden, or they need to be consciously aware of it and actively using that power to be considered one/have the Oz Squad find them and identify them as such.
I'm still banking on Ruby already having dormant Maiden Powers (Spring or Summer). Oz feels like it's a good bet that she has them since she's Summer's daughter ("You have... silver eyes."), but he isn't 100% sure since she has yet to "awaken".
This all falls apart though if the former proves to be the case, but it doesn't seem like it since Oz wasn't able to pick up on Cinder infiltrating his school. Unless she has to be like right in front of him for him to sense a Maiden. Otherwise why would she show up there pretending to be a student in the first place.

Why is Nora holding Jaune back here? Why aren't she and Ren on the same page as him and making a move to go down there??
Jaune could potentially hurt himself on the drop down I guess but what reason is there for them to not be moving help their friend? (Other than to increase the Arkos)
This is probably my only gripe with the episode and it's not a new complaint: Ren and Nora being called members of the main cast/B Team while being treated like background characters who are there to emote at whatever it is that's going on with Jaune or Pyrrha and pad out the rest of the team. If not that then comedic background antics.

When Glynda feels the ground shake, she says no… she knows what’s happening, which mean she knows about the dragon. We can make the logical assumption that since Qrow is in Maiden Club as well that he also knows. Speaking of Maiden Club…
Ozpin is clearly getting ready to head out and join the fight when the ground starts to shake. Notice that as soon as he recovers he looks off into the distance to the right. He doesn’t stop to look around and scan for what might’ve caused the quake. He knows. And he looks straight toward the source.

We didn't get to see what was happening on her end after that shot of her fist clenching. From the sound of things she's got the situation under control; she's probably not dealing with too many Grimm at that point. But that's not going to last. Who will she end up crossing paths with? Glynda and Qrow? Team CRDL? Taiyang, brought to Beacon by the Grimm because it was somehow connected to his mission?pls I wanna see Papa Xiao Long? 2. What happened to Ironwood?
He's shot by his robots and his ship went down. He's not dead, but how much damage did he take in the crash? Minimal? Moderate? Severe enough that he can't defend himself and he'll be out for a few days? Or the foreseeable future?
If that's the case, will Winter be acting in his stead? Will she be contacted or see the situation and come to Beacon's aid? (pretty pls Miles and Kerry)
3. Ruby vs. Neo
HOLY SHIT this one wasn't hinted at in the preview but I'm just as excited for this fight as I am for Adam-Blake reunion
's a better matchup than Neo vs. Yang, though even if Ruby's better equipped to handle Neo than Yang, she's not going to win. So who or what's going to save her? Will Raven appear a second time before Neo? She's the only one we know of who would be able to transport herself there quickly enough if the ship stays airborne during the fight.
4. Adam and Blake
After 1-2 years (?) since they last saw each other, the former siblings/friends/(lovers?) meet again. But how is it going to go down?- Are we gonna get this:
5. Pyrrha, Jaune, and Ozpin
Ozpin wanted to wait until after the tournament for Pyrrha to decide, but sadly time is no longer a luxury they have. It looks like Jaune's also going to be privy to the Maidens now, and probably not too thrilled about the outcome for Pyrrha, assuming everything goes according to how it was described in Ch. 6. With the addition of one Cinder Fall.
This plot point has moved along faster than I initially thought it would.
All Cinder has to do is kill Amber to get the rest of the Fall Maiden power.
If she gets to the basement in time that is. If not, she's gotta go through Pyrrha, either with the same method she used to acquire half of the power from Amber, or killing her.
I don't think we'll get a full display of either Cinder's or Ozpin's power, but I could see a skirmish between the two of them (or Cinder vs Glynda, or vs. Qrow if they head toward the basement; with the rogue robots and the dragon though, I think they'll stay topside). Ozpin bides Jaune and Pyrrha enough time to complete the transfer (this is why Pyrrha needed someone from her team to come along so they could work the machine while Oz was fighting) while displaying a fraction of his power, and now with a half-Maiden to deal with along with the most adorable headmaster, she makes a retreat.
Maybe Miles will work another info dump in here somewhere.

However, I think it's possible that in the few seconds the transfer was taking place Pyrrha acquired a small fraction of it that we'll see manifest in some way down the road.
It's not a lot, maybe 5%, but it could help our heroes in some way.
We'll see if that theory bears fruit.

After Cinder launched her plan in "PvP" I felt that all the build up at the end of "Fall" regarding the consequences for Yang was for nothing. If things went down later it'd be different, but with the potential fall of Beacon/civilization as we know it in Remnant happening now it's all moot. (It could still leave some lasting damage to her psyche but I don't feel like it would be a focus)
Here though, there'd be a permanent reminder of the whole ordeal if she just doesn't magically regenerate a brand new arm with no noticeable scars.- Closing Posts:

I like to believe that Adam isn't being himself and that he's being manipulated in some form. His sudden mood changes towards Blake are confusing unless he is being tainted in some way, made to obsess over her to fit Cynder's plans better. I don't know, b UT that's what I like to think. 'v'
