Those of you who drive, learning to drive, want to drive,

When was the last time you saw someone use hand signals, or used them yourself?

I used them today while me and my dad limped my mom's van to the shop with only half of the brakes working properly. I drove my dad's car while he drove the van. We were crawling 25 mph on a 45 mph road with the flashers on to indicate our slow speed, so hand signals were how we commucaited our intentions, and how I directed my dad to the shop from behind him after he got lost :P

My grandma uses them sometimes, mainly stop when she has to make a sudden stop (like if there's a car ahead of us that slows down or stops unexpectedly).

I think they're important to learn. What if one's blinkers stop working?

Around here most people don't use them to start with :P

Or just don't care, I see a few of those vehicles roll into the shop.

I wasn't aware of hand signals within a car. I knew about some bike hand signals (which I think I get mixed up with all the time, whoops), but I didn't know there were ones to use in a car. I think most people don't look at the driver in a car anyway, and focus more on the vehicle itself. *shrug*

I need to start driving again.

They aren't really used within the car, more so you stick your left arm out the window.

IIRC: way back when, that was the only way to indicate which way you were going (before the light version of turn signals were invented).

I thought hand signals were invented by the Marx Brothers for the gag where the driver sticks his hand out the window and grabs a lamp post and the car goes woopwoopwoopwoop in a circle.

I tried that once to get around a turn at high speed, turns out they don't bolt those things down to the ground very well.
