Re: What game(s) are you playing?
Train Simulator and Minecraft have been the only two games I've been playing of late.

Something that I started going through again is Katawa Shoujo. Never did do Shizune's route, so I'm exploring that now.
I really like her so far (putting her in a close second to Emi at the moment)! Also enjoying how the story is going along on this route! Easily one of my favorites out of all the routes so far!
...the only problem I have with playing these kind of games is that it reminds me of stuff and makes me think too much on things I shouldn't think about...

Re: What game(s) are you playing?
So my goal is to finish Resident Evil Revelations this weekend. I think it's doable, given that the storyline is usually completed in 12-20 hours, but knowing how perfectionistic (not a word, ironically) I am, plus my inexperience with any kind of first person shooter (even though this game is in the survival horror genre) is what will make it difficult for me to complete in a timely manner. I shouldn't be as afraid of failure as I am, but nevertheless, having grown up in an environment (I'm mainly talking about my family) that puts unnecessary pressure on me to do well at video games to "prove" that I can play video games as a girl continues to rub off on me, even though I obviously don't put that standard on anyone else because, to be frank, it's sexist, regressive, and it doesn't make sense that in order to enjoy a game, one must be "perfect" and "get it" the first time around that they play it. I wish I were able to ignore such feelings because I don't even agree with why I feel them, but it's tough removing all the mindsets you grew up with, especially when they overlap with other negative (and some positive, to be sure) thoughts that have been drilled in you.

So I just got to Mistralton City, and when I healed at the Pokémon Center, Nurse Joy told me my Pokémon have Pokérus! :OCaprizant wrote:Replaying Pokémon White and will probably move onto White 2 as soon as I'm done.
I can't tell which Pokémon was the originator, but it's now on half of my team. Speaking of my team, here's how it's stacking up right now:
Ganon the Pignite — Male — Level 31 [Pokérus]
Harriet the Herdier — Female — Level 31 [Pokérus]
Lily the Lilligant — Female — Level 31
Nazca the Sigilyph — Male — Level 31 [Pokérus]
Jerry the Vanillite — Male — Level 31
Mai-Lee the Tynamo — Female — Level 30
I'm really liking the way it's shaping up. It feels like every Pokémon has an equally useful part on the team.

Finished Shizune's route earlier. I'm still putting her and her route second, but I enjoyed it and how it played out very much!jokool wrote:Something that I started going through again is Katawa Shoujo. Never did do Shizune's route, so I'm exploring that now.

With the extra time I had today, I decided to go ahead and 100% the game and get all the different routes and endings for everyone, which, at this point, was only Shizune and Rin, plus one scene I missed with Emi (saved the best for last).
Out of all the girls, I'm ranking them (from last to first), Hanako (still think she's a nice girl, but her route made me feel uncomfortable...), Rin (very difficult girl to deal with, but I still like her
Yes, Emi still is my favorite girl and has the best route in my opinion. I went through it quickly to get the last scene I missed with her, and I literally started tearing up at one point... Something about the experience with her is like something I've dreamed about when wanting to be in a relationship with someone. She's lots of fun and just so dang adorable! True, there's quite a few difficult moments with her, but they work out so beautifully that it just makes me like her more! *sigh*
...I really shouldn't play games like this... As I mentioned before, it just makes me think of things I shouldn't be thinking of... But I still love this experience!

Re: What game(s) are you playing?
Hey Jo, you've played 999 right? I'm finally playing it myself and it hasn't really grabbed me yet. Zero Escape piqued my interest because I got the impression that it's sorta like "a smarter take on Saw", that it uses its structure and all its various historical/cultural references to make a point about society. I'm about three puzzles in, about to go into the fourth puzzle with Lotus (whom I dislike strongly) and Clover (whom I'm still getting to know but she hasn't been the sweetest either). What say you? Does it live up to that idea of mine, "a smarter take on Saw"? Will it grow on me if I stick to it?

Given that I've never seen Saw, I have no idea how to respond.
I will say that, if it hasn't grown on you yet, then it may not be your cup of tea... But keep going! It does get better and you may change your mind about it.
...I wonder if I should try to redo my LP of that someday?

Re: What game(s) are you playing?
Finished Pokémon White! Holy crap, that ending was spectacular. I'm quietly hopeful that the plot of SuMo will have just as much thought put into it.
This ended up being my game-winning team. (Some spoilers ahead.)
I couldn't bring myself to use [spoiltext]Zekrom against N[/spoiltext], even though in the context of the plot, it would've been amazing. I didn't want to abandon any one of the team members I'd met throughout the game. Luckily, everything turned out okay. Despite being slightly underleveled, we took out [spoiltext]N and Ghetsis[/spoiltext] with relative ease. And I actually used every one of my Pokémon for something important in those last battles. It was really fun.
Now onto post-game stuff! :D
This ended up being my game-winning team. (Some spoilers ahead.)
- team:
Ganon the Emboar (♂ / Level 50)
It's a powerful fire pig demon guy, so I was obligated to name it Ganon. :V
Ability: Blaze
Nature: Sassy
Held Item: Charcoal
Moveset
Flamethrower
Head Smash
Scald
Hammer Arm
I was originally planning to box Ganon as soon as I caught my first Pokémon, because I thought I hated the designs of all the Unova starters. I only picked Tepig because it was the only one I never used.
However, after the first battles against Bianca and Cheren, I grew to like the little guy. I threw my plans for my team out the window and kept him. And he was immensely useful throughout the game, helping secure wins against Lenora, Burgh, Brycen, and Grimsley. He was also crucial in taking down Ghetsis' Hydreigon.
After awhile, I started to like Emboar's design. Not only does he look like Ganon, but the markings around his body make it look like pottery, too. It's the ultimate Zeldamon! :D
Harriet the Stoutland (♀ / Level 47)
Nicknamed after the owner of Shampoodle in Animal Crossing. And also because it's hairy. :B
Ability: Intimidate
Nature: Mild
Held Item: Rocky Helmet
Moveset
Return
Reversal
Crunch
Ice Fang
Harriet turned out to be a great physical attacker, and often helped fight types that I had no STAB coverage against, like Fire. She was a huge help in the first Gym battle against Cress, since I didn't want to use one of the elemental monkeys. Intimidate came in handy for some of Unova's many hard-hitting physical attackers, like Clay's Excadrill.
She was also the final Pokémon I used against Ghetsis, taking down his Eelektross with a barrage of Returns, albeit helped by the Eelektross' Wild Charge doing recoil.
Lily the Lilligant (♀ / Level 49)
Nicknamed after Lily Potter from Harry Potter, since I've gotten back into it recently.
Ability: Chlorophyll
Nature: Quiet
Held Item: Big Root
Moveset
Giga Drain
Grass Knot
Quiver Dance
Teeter Dance
Lily was incredibly fun to use in battle. She didn't have much in the way of type coverage, but she managed beautifully with her Quiver Dance-Giga Drain + Big Root combos, which allowed her to stay alive a lot longer than she really should have. Grass Knot also helped take down some heavy-hitting threats.
She was a key player in a tough battle against Shauntal. She managed to 1-hit two of her Pokémon, Jellicent and Golurk, which cleared the way for my whole team to take down Chandelure, who was pretty much specifically designed to break my entire team. :B
Nazca the Sigilyph (♂ / Level 50)
Nicknamed after the Nazca Lines, which are a basis for its design.
Ability: Magic Guard
Nature: Quirky
Held Item: Expert Belt
Moveset
Psychic
Air Slash
Shadow Ball
Cosmic Power
Sigilyph is actually the only Pokémon I've used on all my Gen V teams. It's insanely versatile.
Nazca was a beast for regular trainer battles, being both speedy and hard-hitting with his special attacks. He was immensely useful in the fight against Shauntal, taking out her Cofagrigus and playing a big part in taking out her Chandelure. He also utterly annihilated Marshal's entire team, which was sweet.
I wanted to run a Flame Orb-Magic Guard-Facade combo on him, but his Attack isn't that great, and you get the Flame Orb from the Battle Subway, which I didn't want to do until the endgame.
Now in the endgame, I'll be getting the Life Orb from the Battle Subway, and Nazca will be invincible!
Ben+Jerry the Vanilluxe (♂ / Level 48)
Nicknamed after the Vermont ice cream company. It was just Jerry before it evolved into Vanilluxe, at which point I dubbed the second face Ben :V
Ability: Ice Body
Nature: Quirky
Held Item: BrightPowder
Moveset
Ice Beam
Flash Cannon
Avalanche
Acid Armor
I kinda threw in Ben+Jerry at the last minute. When I realized the Cold Storage was coming up, I remembered how often I feel like I really want to run an Ice-type on an in-game team, but never do. Ice types just tend to be too frail. But I figured I'd try out a Vanilluxe, even though I found its design a bit weird, and you know what? He was one of the best members of my team.
He took a very long time to evolve, getting to Level 47 at the end of Victory Road, but he was spectacular in many fights throughout my journey. He took out two of Clay's Pokémon, leaving Excadrill open for Ganon. Together with Mai-Lee, he made Skyla a joke. He was the star player in the fight against Iris.
He was the surprising MVP against Caitlin, taking out three of her Pokémon—Sigilyph, Gothitelle, and Musharna—when my planned lead for the fight, Nazca, went down against Reuniclus. He even managed to freeze Musharna!
Not only that, but it got Zekrom down to low health in one hit, even getting the freeze at the same time! I managed to catch Zekrom on the second ball because of him. He took out N's own Vanilluxe with a Flash Cannon. He was also crucial in taking out N's last Pokémon, Archeops. I switched him in after Mai-Lee took a big hit, and he barely missed a Stone Edge thanks to a combination of that move's low accuracy and the BrightPowder.
Ben+Jerry unexpectedly became one of my favorite Pokémon on the team. Whereas before I thought the design was just plain weird, now I think it's cute and silly. My only regret is that the nickname got a little squished by the pre-Gen VI nickname length, and for some reason they don't let you use the ampersand in nicknames. :B
Mai-Lee the Eelektross (♀ / Level 48)
Read the nickname backwards
Ability: Levitate
Nature: Modest
Held Item: None
Moveset
Crunch
Thunderbolt
Dragon Claw
Acrobatics
It was a hard decision to put Mai-Lee on the team. I'd originally planned to have a Carracosta, so I'd have a Pokémon to Surf. But I ran into a Tynamo in Chargestone Cave, and decided that having a strong Electric-type mixed attacker with no weaknesses sounded even cooler than a turtle tank. :B
I'd never had a team without a Water-type before, because Surf is pretty much essential as far as I'm concerned. But Carracosta wouldn't have used it well in battle anyway, since its Attack is higher than its Special Attack. Plus, Surf actually isn't required for the main story in BW, so Mai-Lee had that going for her.
After she evolved (which, trust me, took a long time), Mai-Lee had some pretty great coverage. She took down pesky Flying-types such as Cheren's unbelievably annoying Unfezant. I tried to make use of the (admittedly gimmicky) power boost on Acrobatics, with mixed results. The strategy wasn't used often, but when it was used, it was pretty cool.
I just wish the Gen VI model of Eelektross were in this game. Eelektross looks so awkward in Gen V. Despite having Levitate, it just... waddles on the ground. The way it is in Gen VI, flowing through the air, looks way cooler. But Mai-Lee turned out to be a fantastic addition to the team nonetheless. :B
I couldn't bring myself to use [spoiltext]Zekrom against N[/spoiltext], even though in the context of the plot, it would've been amazing.
