The anime does look interesting, but I'm more curious as to how different it is to the manga.

well, bo-bobo bobo-bo had a EXTREMELY inappropriate manga, with innuendos and mortal kombat blood EVERYWHERE, and the anime was SIGNIFICANTLY toned down to be kid friendly.
