Re: Kingdom of Altea
Well, *brings out a white board and points to a picture of Marth and Caeda next to each other* in games starting with...technically the fourth, but it became a continued mechanic in the sixth and on, you can leave two units next to each other. You could, of course, do this in older games, but the difference is that the two units will gain Support Points (SP), at rates depending on the pair. Some unit combinations cannot gain SP. Once enough SP is gained, *points to a C > B > A figure above Marth and Caeda* the two can form a Support, gaining various bonuses when the two are withing 3 spaces (pre-Awakening) next to each other (Awakening), depending on the Support Level and, pre-Awakening, affinity. Oftentimes, when a (opposite-gendered) couple gets an A support, they get married at the end. This is changed to an S Rank in Fire Emblem, which only opposite-gendered couples can get, and only once. In the games before Awakening, a unit can only do Support conversations 5 times. (Most of this does not apply to the fourth game.)
In Awakening, additionally, you have a customizeable Avatar character. The Avatar can have Supports with everyone in the army, and thus can marry anyone of the opposite gender. In Awakening, married characters can have children, which can fight alongside their parents (long, spoiler-filled story). The Avatar is unique in that they always have a child, no matter what their gender (the female in the relationship decides which child is born). Some female units, like Say'ri (and all children characters), can't support with any non-Avatar males, and thus don't have a child assigned to them - Morgan, the Avatar's child, is the only child that comes, as opposed to Morgan + the wife's child. Hence, it's kind of a waste to marry the Avatar to anyone who doesn't give a child, because you're losing out on awesomeness.
^3 Swordmasters.

Re: Kingdom of Altea
You pumped up Leonidas and Fredrick with EXP, which is why you're in the rut you're in now.
