I've found Audicity to do a better job of recording sound through my laptop's built in mic than the OEM software.

Do either of you guys use a headset with it?

Used to but it's broke now :/

When recording I recommend using headphones or ear buds to hear the game sound if the video recorder also records the audio

Nope, not monetized, at least not yet cause I can't find permission from the developers saying it's cool to monetize
