They actually gave both Archie and Maxie personalities, from what I've noticed. If I remember correctly, in the original Hoenn games they had the exact same script. In ORAS, they actually threw pirate-speak into Archie's dialogue, and had Maxie speak like an actual scientist.

In my opinion though, Team Magma and Aqua are about equal.
