But it wasn't absurdly broken when it first came out. It rather recently became broken. And pretty much just with archetypes.

What exactly occurred to make you realize that?

Perhaps the fact they've introduced more than a few powerful pendulum monsters. Not to mention the fact you can summon most of the monsters in the game through pendulum summoning with two certain scales.

And the support spells for Magician Pendulums.

I don't think I've seen very many of those yet, I'll take another look tomorrow.

Prrrrrretty much this. Arc in the Sky and Pendulum Call especially. 

And to a lesser extent the Normal Pendulum Magicians, who have scales of 1/8 and no limits, but that didn't cause me to realize it.
