I doodled Stevonnie in class yesterday for some reason, and it actually turned out okay, coming from someone who's never drawn much more than geometrical shapes in the margins of my homework before. So I decided to try out some art!

It's... literally all just doodles of Stevonnie, because I just feel really comfortable drawing them, but never mind that. :p

these start out really terrible i'm sorry. they become slightly less terrible over time:

If anyone has some recommendations on where to go if I want to learn to art, I'm all ears. I've literally just been feeling around in the dark here, but I kinda wanna get serious about it soon. :V

love how you got progressively better xD

What I do to improve are:

1) Practice (duh) 10,000 hours of practice will let anyone become exceptional at something
2) Watch speed drawings and art streams, sometimes watching how others approach certain things can help you learn new tricks
3) Art academy games
4) Random tidbits on tumblr :V

I've mentioned him before, but you should definitely check out Mark Crilley's Youtube channel. He has a ton of great how to draw videos and has a ton of excellent advice for anyone who wants to improve their drawing skills.

I can definitely claim that art streams do help. I personally watch Elentori (who is live right now, by the way) quite often. I also watch the following if I can: tsaoshin, Aerorwen (<3), Phaisty, Kinsei, basically any stream that is going on that I notice by people I watch on dA or tumblr. Speedpaints are also good. WalkingMelons

Which leads me to another thing.
Look at art you admire/find an artist whose art and/or advise is appealing to you in some way. I find that just looking at art, taking in the details, observing how they do lighting, etc. is really helpful.
And to turn that around--the number one advise I hear from any artist, and from all artists I have followed, is to look at real life references. I don't do this enough. Senshistock has some good poses you can go through and all that jazz.

Otherwise, all I can say is-- the artistic journey is both wonderful and horrible. As you learn more, as you make observations, you will see flaws in your own art. The most important thing in this instance is to not hate your art or give up. Understand that you are learning-- if you are not happy with your art, that is a learning opportunity, and you've come to recognize something new. Here's the image of what I'm thinking about:
Spoiler:
Have fun~ (that's actually really the number one rule. Art really is so open and great, just go with it. Experiment. Enjoy~!)

It's basically a challenge to draw everyday for October with some sort of ink.
Basically, pen drawings! Everyday, all October!

The line work you did makes it feel a lot more warm and friendly (maybe childlike?) then the original and I really really like it!

By contrast, the thing I did today is absolute trash. Mostly because I couldn't finish it.
