Because the Black Corn is a battleship while the Dunspach is mostly diplomatic. ~~And I may have also mixed up the names for the two at some point~~ Neither is used much anymore so when I went to start the Auxiliary Generator, the engine blew up.

As for why I need a space ship, I wish to travel to Trader Joe's Overpowered Farm Tools and Military Surplus, which is rather far away. I don't need a battleship to go out there so...
