No, it's the right way around. The order of my statement is reversed in the first place to make the non-existence of seatbelts more dramatic. :B

that the discs in your back are kept supple and lubricated by spinal fluids. As the day goes on, those fluids are slowly squeezed from the discs as you move about. One of the important functions of sleep is to relube those discs and this apparently happens best when the back is in a relaxed position. Just something to keep in mind when you're getting comfortable in bed or if you have back pain.
