I downloaded Final Fantasy III and DesMuME, got them working with good framerate, then moved the save file I had on Dropbox from my old laptop to the DesMuME file. I can now continue where I was in the game!

Which game the best introduction to the series? And how can I get said game?

I've only played a few of the games, but I think IX may be a good starting point, it's relatively easy and can be played on the playstation or the playstation 3 via PSN. Also on PSN It's only 7.99 dollars! I have not finished IX yet But I've liked what I've played!

Nononono.

IX is an awful start.

Sure, it's a great game. One of the best! But it's an awful start. You'll miss out on all of the references, and by God there's a ton of references.

IV for the Nintendo DS is pretty good.

I use the ones I can find that work on Macintosh. The only one so far in that regard is DesMuMe or whatever for DS. I've tried Dolfin and VisualBoy Advance, but neither seem to work.
