Re: The Galactic Arcade [v2]
Just for fun, I checked to see if my local Gamestop has Metroid Prime and Xenoblade, and they do.
...Not like I can afford them, but still.

Alright, so what is wrong with The Galactic Arcade? Sounds like there's enough gaming talk to keep the thread on track, though admittedly I just skim through most of it to ensure no major blowups are happening.Lief in Otaku Corner wrote:The real question is what's wrong with The Galactic Arcade.

Re: The Galactic Arcade [v2]
Apart from still waiting for a response to my question above. My used copy of The Legend of Spyro: A New Beginning came in the mail just now. So it it's playing the trailer just fine on the Playstation, but I'll have to wait until this evening to start playing it for real. Main menu screen has some static in the background. The disc looks good, though it seems a bit thinner than most and has a bit of faint scratching.

Nothing wrong with the Galactic Arcade, I though thought it would be nice to have threads of their own. Granted it may just be me and Erin but it would still be nice!

Game is playing just fine right now but Oh My God, the playing style is like nothing I have ever done before. I'm actually having to use Melee combos, yes Melee, not charging or flaming for instant kill.
Getting used to the new personas ain't easy either.

I say personas to collectively refer to Legend of Spyro's Spyro's and Sparx's radically new personalities and appearances. New voice actors don't exactly help either.

Fun fact, Sparx's voice actor changes for all three Legend of Spyro games. They even Lampshade this in the third game.

Oh, I should mention that looking into the third game at all will spoil just about everything from the first and second games...

Lovely... Hopefully they don't sound too different.jokool wrote:Fun fact, Sparx's voice actor changes for all three Legend of Spyro games. They even Lampshade this in the third game.

- Spoilers for the Third Game:
- I already know Cynder switches sides.
Admittedly when I first saw an ad for the third game back when it was first coming out or was in the final stages of development, the ad had an older Dragon I was 99% sure was Spyro and a similarly aged pink/light purple dragon beside him. I assumed this was Ember, from A Hero's Tail. Wikipedia told me otherwise the other day when I was researching the first game a bit.
So far I'm enjoying the first game a lot, even though it's a bit frustrating at times. I'm actually getting so carried away by the game that I'm losing track of time. I do have concerns about my controller shaking itself apart though.

Well.....
First game is David Spade (who I think did the best). Second one is Billy West (think of Fry (from Futurama), the Red M&M, or Bugs Bunny). Third one is Wayne Brady (I was a bit surprised when I found that out during the credits).
The only other character to have their voice actor change for all the games is Cynder, but the changes aren't nearly as noticeable.

That one you can live with.

Yeah, it's an awesome game, albeit a bit slow and frustrating during the first level or so, but once the game picks up, it's absolutely amazing!

Yeah, I lost a bit of my time to this series as well.
Are you talking about the vibration? I think there's an option to turn it off.I do have concerns about my controller shaking itself apart though.
One other thing: As someone who's played a few other Spyro games, how would you compare it to them? I've only played one other Spyro game before these, and it wasn't the best one to start off with...

Well as long as Sparx's personality doesn't change...jokool wrote:Truthseeker4449 wrote:Lovely... Hopefully they don't sound too different.jokool wrote:Fun fact, Sparx's voice actor changes for all three Legend of Spyro games. They even Lampshade this in the third game.

Really? Seems to be the same one.jokool wrote:Oh, I should mention that looking into the third game at all will spoil just about everything from the first and second games...

Pretty sure there is, but I'm not reaching for it just yet.Are you talking about the vibration? I think there's an option to turn it off.I do have concerns about my controller shaking itself apart though.
Never played that one. As for how different... Oh man where to start... How about game mechanics. Legend of Spyro threw away the previously established mechanics of One Hit Kill Breath Attacks and Charging. Historically Spyro has infinite breath uses. In previous games, Spyro could still turn pretty well while charging, in this game Spyro can barely turn. One other thing: As someone who's played a few other Spyro games, how would you compare it to them? I've only played one other Spyro game before these, and it wasn't the best one to start off with...
Sparx's color in previous games represented Spyro's health. Gold was full health, Blue was the next step down, and Green was the last one before Sparx disappeared. A Hero's Tail had an upgrade that gave Sparx a red stage before disappearing. Sparx also didn't talk much as he does in Legend of Spyro and definitely not like he does in this incarnation. He also looked much more like a IRL dragonfly and often had a special accent or language given to him to help emphasize he is a dragonfly.
The breath upgrading system is completely new, but Spyro has had multiple breaths in previous games. Shooting fireballs is not a completely new idea, A Hero's Tail had Secondary Armaments that went along with a primitive targeting system (just crosshairs that appeared in a first person view). I don't use them much, until I get the Ice Missiles as they are extremely useful in the last Realm of the game, The Volcanic Island. No, seriously, the fire monsters on the Molten Mount maps are a huge pain in the ass if you don't kill them from a distance.
Horn Dive is not a new combo for Spyro, it's actually essential for progressing the plot in A Hero's Tail and you can upgrade it with a larger shockwave to make it more useful (which also happens to be the most expensive upgrade in the game at 10,000 Gems). Pretty much all other forms of Melee combat, except for the nerfed charging, in Legend of Spyro is new. Historical Aerial Combat was restricted to breath attacks for the most part.
Sustained flight is actually not all that new, the original Spyro game had special realms where you could fly around in a time challenge and I know this returned in Enter The Dragonfly (widely considered the worst installment in the franchise, though as I cast my mind back to when I put some effort into this game, it had some interesting mini games like operating tanks, planes, and UFOs). In A Hero's Tail, these challenges were passed off to St. Byrd and I presume they were also given to him in the game he originally appeared in.
