Get the Event Torchic.  Evolve it.  You have a counter for practically everything.

And one other fire type that I haven't decided on yet.

Blaziken has taken care of the Rival's starter.

Well, you'd have to start with Blaziken in order to outspeed Greninja. And IIRC your rival has a Meowstic, starting at the Tower of Mastery. Meowstic has a higher base Speed than Mega Blaziken, which will use regular Blaziken's Speed on the turn it Mega Evolves. Speed Boost won't kick in until the end of the first turn. And since Meowstic is Psychic, it has a Type advantage over Blaziken. So, uh...yeah. Something like that.

If possible at that point, I'm teaching it Protect so it gets the boost while taking no damage.

Also, does mega evolving use up a turn, or can you still attack?

You can still attack. Mega Evolution happens at the beginning of the turn.

So I've sorta got the Torchic now, just need to find the Pokémon Center....


Also Zigzagoon's cry sounds different from what I remember.

It's because the last time you heard a Zigzagoon, it was on a GBA (probably). They redid the cries to make them sound better.

By the way Lief, do you still have the extra Torchic if I don't get a 3/2DS and X/Y in time for the event?

I say this because I don't think I'm going to win any of the contests on Bulba.....
