Let's Play OFF: Part 13, Counting OFF The Pages
- update:
Forgot to mention last update, this is the description for the necktie:
Necktie: A nice, black necktie, for use in Bismark.
If you try to use the necktie, you get this message:
I don't want to wear my tie here.
Now let's head to a new area. From the park cardinal, take the upper path, the upper path again, then the lower path to reeeeach...
The residential area. Let's read the sign then talk to the men. (There's one off-screen that I got in another screenshot which is MIA for some reason.)
Bismark
☜ Center (library)
☞ Residential Area
You live in Bismark? Strange... You're not wearing a tie.
These barriers prevent people from falling into the plastic.
They're even made of soft, harmless rubber.
That's good.
And then there's the man over by the blocks:
The residential area is for residents only.
Imagine the panic if intruders ever sneaked into our homes...
And now, if you try to put your tie on in this area...
Yes, I can put my tie on here. Good idea.
Interestingly, if you want to take it off, you get this message:
Wear the tie?
Yes
> No
Selecting Yes makes you take off the tie, selecting No makes you keep it on. Small little anomaly there. Trying to go out of the residential area with the tie on gives you this:
I don't want to be seen with a tie on that side of town.
Speaking of being seen with the tie, here's the Batter's sprite while wearing the tie:
Spiffy, man. Spiffy. Anyway, you now get different dialogue from the man closest to the exit.
Oh, you're wearing a tie. You must certainly be someone of great confidence...
Now the blocks blocking us from the residential area are cleared, so let's check that out.
There is still time to repent of your omissions, ungrateful wretches...
Crave my pardon immediately, or I will send you back to limbo this instant.
Did you hear something?
Poot cretins!! I am here, right in front of you, ready to send you to hell!
So? Are you ready to apologize to your father and protector, you band of wimps?
There's nothing but an old cat, up there.
It could be a dangerous cat... It has sharp claws.
Yes, and it can spread disease...
Have you heard the story of the guy who got scratched by a cat?
Aaarrggghh!!
I hate you! I hate you all!
But where's that voice coming from?
Must be someone who's in a bad mood...
Yes, he should take the time to relax and enjoy this place... So flat and quiet.
Here, we're safe.
But that was me! It was I who made it all like that for you!
Are you all so blinded by your pathetic fear of living?
This is all rather strange, isn't it?
That is it!!
I am going to teach you to respect me...
Unreasonable Behaviour - OFF OST
Let's purge these impure beasts...
And fast.
We now have exactly four minutes to defeat the spectres who are wandering around the town. Time doesn't keep ticking during battles. Also, this is one of my favourite music tracks in the game, so listen to it if you can.
Let's get a Wide Angle on these guys.
Porter Spectre (x1)
Saturated, ectoplasmic incarnation.
HP: 230 / CP: 10
No weakness/resistance
These guys split into eight groups of three spectres each when damaged, like so:
Your best bet is to bombard them with regular attacks as fast as you can so they can't lay much damage on you. About two hits each should do it. Even better would be to knock these guys out before they can split if you can.
Adversaries purified.
400 experience points gained.
120 credits received.
There are 7 phantoms remaining in the area.
Once you defeat a spectre, the counter goes down. Pretty simple. I'll skip to the end now, I can't waste much time here. The citizens you see running around don't really say anything of note.
While doing so, I reached Batter Level 8, and got a new competence, Save Second Base.
Save Second Base: Restores a lot of HP
I also got to Alpha Level 7 and received Converted Chain.
Converted Chain: Special attack of mediocre impact
All the phantoms have been purified.
I've purified this place, but this zone has not yet been freed of its true pest.
Where can I find Japhet?
Japhet? Who's Japhet?
The cat who directs the specters.
Uh... the cat?
Um... I don't know...
A... Anyway, we thank you for helping us.
But, uh...
That thing you have there...
My bat?
Yes... your... bat...
That's an awfully dangerous object...
I'll have to ask you to leave the residential area.
...and give us your tie...
NOOOOOO ANYTHING BUT THE TIE
You... you should understand, of course... it's a measure of security...
The tie has been lost.
Well, well, lookie who's here.
I am embarrassed, I admit, but it appears that I need you and your puppet's purifying intentions, dear Baxter...
Valerie, my beloved brother, appears to have fallen off the rails of consciousness and into the depths of uncontrollable madness.
He calls himself Japhet, and, in addition to being the royal agent he has never been, proclaims himself chief of the spectres.
Two roles he has usurped, no doubt. Nobody in this world, I assure you, has any control over the ectoplasms...
...Except perhaps the Queen, but I have yet to find any concrete evidence or testimony to prove this hypothesis.
Anyway, Valerie settled on the roof of the library.
And, although I suppose this could have been just a coincidence, it seems that the ghosts are swarming the corridors of the same building.
I believe this is a perfect mission for you, full of all the gratuitous violence which you seem to revel with glee.
Okay. I'll go to the library.
I will follow you.
And then, we sort of... absorb the Judge into us. At any rate, it seems he's joined us. Now let's talk to the one man left out here.
It... seems that the residential area has been attacked by spectres...
I... I don't dare go there ever again...
Now back to the library.
You... You're gonna go up to the roof? That's... dangerous, isn't it?
Well, don't be too loud, please.
Oh, we won't be, don't worry. *heads upstairs*
Looks like those blocks are gone.
Let's check out that bookshelf, then.
Drawing from his waning forces, he created the Library, more beautiful
than ever before. Its height pierced the smoky clouds and there he stood.
It appears there's a page missing. Wonder what was in between to make them flow perfectly like that.
We reach a long balcony to the library. Some whooshy music that I can't find in the OFF folder plays. Woohoo.
There's nothing up here except another door on the other side.
...aND WHALES
Adversaries taken by surprise.
Phew. I can flee this battle. *flees*
Bookshelf check time.
Much like a guardian angel, he had done everything for them. He had
brought them peace, security, and entertainment. Such was his generosity.
I'm sensing either some omissions or the numbers to a code.
For awhile, that was all good and well for all, they enjoyed the new land
with the innocence of a child. They were running down the streets, enjoying
JESUS FUCKING CHRIST THAT SCARED THE SHIT OUT OF ME
Anyway, as you can see, those little split ghost from earlier are now alone.
Junior Spectres (x2)
Minor ectoplasmic incarnations.
HP: 55 / CP: 10
Light weakness against smoke
Adversaries purified.
420 experience points gained.
140 credits received.
Luck ticket received.
But the dynamics of the world soon drove the people mad. They forgot about
their joys and eventually succumbed to their neurosis of fear and worries. They weren't
Hmm. Sound familiar, anyone?
Meanwhile, the Flaming Winged Sovereign weeped on his throne, their joys
saddened to have been forgotten by Man. He had no more time for their worries.
...Did it just skip from page five to page one? And why does page one start mid-sentence?
...Anyway, let's head through the door.
And so the Flaming Bird turned into a cat and the cat into a Ruler. Driven insane by his anger
and sadness, he summoned forth a storm of evil spirits upon his subjects. His madness had
...Pages six and six? This is getting fishy.
While the spectres where destroying the world he had created, he sought
(s)helter at the summit of his wonderful creation, the Great Library.
Seven and four. Marking down the numbers for a code now.
This time there's one large door in the center.
...Ooooor the page numbers were for a puzzle. Hm.
There was nothing else to be done but wait for the man who would rise forth to destroy
him. For deep inside his soul, there was no doubt that what he did was Evil. The End
...Page zero? ...Huh?
At any rate, I can't investigate the blocks in this puzzle... huh. Well, guess this is a good place to leave off, then. Signing OFF!

Re: Let's Play OFF: Completed!
Interesting story.... But yeah, I think the 'page numbers' are a key to the puzzle here.
But it's odd that you can't investigate the puzzle.... Did you miss a book or something?

Re: Let's Play OFF: Completed!
I heard somewhere that one of the puzzles is basically unsolvable unless you look into the coding or something. I mean, I could be misremembering or I could even be wrong. You might need to ask for help from someone who's played before, Cap.

Or one of us find another LP of this and watch the bit how to solve this puzzle, then relay the information back to you.

Re: Let's Play OFF: Completed!
There might be something in the Read Me file, I'll look into it later. I'm hesitant to search around elsewhere because of spoilers.
At any rate, I won't be able to do an update until I'm at my grandma's house, due to our internet issues. Uploading screenshots in particular is detrimental. It should only be about a week from now, don't worry.

Re: Let's Play OFF: Completed!
If you still haven't gotten to figure out that puzzle yet, maybe going back to the amusement park is the answer.
I watched part of an LP where the guy went there first and.... Well, I don't want to spoil anything much, but I'll just say he explored the areas around the rides a bit more than you did and found a few more things.
Anyway, when he got to the puzzle, he didn't have any problem with it.
Again, not sure if that's the answer, but it wouldn't hurt to check it out.
Also, what were the numbers for the puzzle again? He seemed to notice that there were a lot of them and figured out something about them (again, don't want to say too much so you can figure it out yourself).

Re: Let's Play OFF: Completed!
I've figured out the numbers bit myself, but I wouldn't suppose the "exploring the park" bit had to do with the cruise ride, did it?

Re: Let's Play OFF: Completed!
Well, the guy did find a few items from the cruise (although, some were incredibly tricky to get to and weren't really worth much), but he did check out the area north of the roller coaster. I'll leave it at that.
There was also a room he could get to around the cruise area after exploring the roller coaster area. Again, I'll leave it at that.
Also, I really want to try this game out now.

Re: Let's Play OFF: Completed!
Odd... the area north of the roller coaster appears blocked to me.
Also, if you do check out the game, make sure not to post even minor spoilers here. (I don't consider pointing me in the right direction spoilers--it's not exactly plot-related, just plot-advancing.)

Hmmm..... Well, all I know is that he was able to go up from where those guys were sitting in the chairs and got to see and do something interesting, then got an item that let him access a room.
