As much as I love Super Smash Bros, and it's amazing! But when you think of 2D fighters and super smash bros they just don't feel the same...

Things like Naruto, One Piece, and Dragon Ball that focus on using specials and stuff? *shrug*

I imagine you'd be into anime style fighters (like maybe the BlazBlue series?), but nothing over the top, though, I think most over the top anime fighting games are in 3D.

I'm not specifically against specials, I just want a game that I can rack up some fun combos

I have the conflicting problem of I want the anime style fighters because I think they look nice, but also the fact that those ones tend to have more sexual themes in clothing and dialogue. what do you mean by "over the top"?

Oooooooooooooooohhhhh... I get it! In that case... hmmm... I guess Street Fighter would still be okay, if you ignore a couple of characters maybe? And over the top meaning that it's all about specials, kill fast or be killed, and other stuff like that instead of focusing on building up combos (I guess? (I honestly don't know what I mean sometimes)).

I also figured street fighter would be the best bet, it seems to be the most mild out of all of the options I found (which included BlazBlue, Guilty Gear, etc... ((and those ones were pretty to look at!)))

The moral of the story is imma very unpleasable person :p

Due to getting $10 from my grandma, I now have to avert making a choice altogether and just get Corrin and all of the Fates routes.

some of the story based street fighter games are hard to find though
alpha 1, IV and III have different stories than alpha 2/3, super IV onward, and III 2nd impact onward. alpha 1 is only on PS1, street fighter II is only on the DREAMCAST and arcades, and street fighter I is skipabble given all it's ret-cons in alpha and III(it's also the hardest to find, given the series didn't break out until II, with only a version on the turbograffix-16 and the wii virtual console for console ports, and a couple arcade ports in the capcom classics series)
then the first final fight is tied to street fighter, but the sequels and captain commando (set in final fight's future), are not considered canon anymore.
coming from a guy who owns every story based street fighter game in one form or another.

I wasn't to worried about the stories, but since you seem to play so many of them, which ones do you prefer in the series?

each game has the story told through the intros and outros of that character's arcade mode.
alpha 2/3 and super IV/super IV arcade/ultra IV are considered to have the best story in the series in that regard.
V has the first dedicated story mode in the series a la later mortal kombat games, soulcaliber, smash bros brawl, etc.
as well as the usual intros and outros breadcrumbs.
I personally like II HD and ultra IV the best though.
and now I have to go to bed

I know IV and Ultra IV are definitely on steam, when you get on next time, what's the difference between the two?

I highly recommend anything Super/Ultra IV since Juri is in those.
