But why? and for what? I'm really lost on this...

I remember those too, but remember that dimension L held a bad guy, who could only be in dimension L and sometimes O, the Y dimension is certain death, and the S dimension is for perverts.
so dimensions A-K, M/N, P-R, T-X, and Z are the only ones capable of threads.
