Forum Competitions!
Welcome! Welcome! Come one, come all, for the Pit Stop Monthly "Which Side of the Brain is Better at a Completely Irrelevant Forum Competition" Competition!
The rules are as follows:
Each of these criteria are tallied up for the individual users, eventually creating an overall score for the team.
The winning team for each month gets some little bragging-rights badges for their profile based on their color, mascot, and name. In addition, each time a team wins, they get to have the forum background in their color for the next month.
The first competition began on February 1st, 2015. I take a base score from all team members to start the month, and when the month ends, I take another score for each member. The second score minus the first score is the user's final score.
If you are not currently aligned to a team and would like to join these competitions, please take this test and report your results in this thread. Users whose left/right scores are within ~8% of each other can go to whichever team needs more members. If it is found that this test is biased towards one team, I will find a new one.
I'm hoping this is a fun way to not only boost forum activity, but to tighten the community a bit more. Don't just hang around and wait to see the final score. Actively participate! Throw a few likes out, even to the other team if you're feeling generous. Start a genuinely interesting or necessary thread. Take up necromancy in the Game Room. Just have some fun with this, it's all in the name of teamwork and other such sugary sweetstuff.
Small note: It may take a bit for me to have the badges ready, as I have to decide on a final decide for them and then implement the badge system itself.
The rules are as follows:
- There are two seperate teams: Sinister Sinistrals, representing the right brain, and Rational Sabotage, representing the left brain. Each has their own team color, team mascot, and team name.
- At the end of every month, a score is taken. The score is a weighted average consisting of the following criteria:
- Number of posts;
- Number of wins for certain games in the Game Room (First Poster Wins, Who's That Pokémon!?, etc.)
- Number of threads started;
- Number of likes received;
- Number of likes given
Each of these criteria are tallied up for the individual users, eventually creating an overall score for the team.

Then give me a minute to check which team has fewer people on it.

Re: Forum Competitions!
We were even before. I have Charles, Bunny, Truth, romch, Lief, and Snazz on Right, and Lief, Greece, Mey, me, Bean, and jo on Left.
However, as Caps got a higher score for Right, and since the balancing criteria doesn't help us if we're already balanced, it stands to reason he should go to Right anyway. :B

Really?
*looks back at Sinister Sinistrals's team list to figure out where an error was made*
Ah Snazz is the one missing on our list. Works out to us either way though.

Re: Forum Competitions!
Hello all! Sorry for my absence, I'll explain what I've done throughout the month in Gone Fishing so you guys know I wasn't completely wasting my time. :B
Let me preface this by saying that from now on, I'm gonna make the beginning-of-the-month statistics available to everyone. For full transparency, and to give myself some big, unmissable obligation to abide by so I can keep careful track of the stats. :I
But now, onto business. A predicament. So, you know how I did the competition results in a bit of a rush last time? Well, in that rush, I never took score of the beginning-of-the-month statistics.
But that's alright, because I came up with a genius solution: I would use the beginning-of-the-month statistics from April, then add them to the final results from the end of April. Then, I'd subtract that number from the statistics for today.
Problem came with Caps and Luma. Caps I didn't have beginning-of-the-month stats saved for, and Luma joined since the beginning of May. Caps was fine, I was able to count everything manually from this page because he didn't make more than 300 posts this month.
Luma, however, has made more than 300 posts in the last 7 days. :V
So, I have no clue what to do. Any suggestions? Should I punish myself by counting her posts out manually as well? Should I try to find an average-per-day count and work from there? Should I leave her off the list? Should I just give up for this month, admit my mistake, and make sure I don't frickle up this time?

Re: Forum Competitions!
I think it's safe to count Luma out for this month and admit victory for the Lefts. Unless someone really wants to count her posts and threads. :U

Re: Forum Competitions!
Just call it a win for your team and be done with it, I'm pretty sure that Luma tips the scale in your favor anyway, even without an even further decrease in SS activity.

Y'know even if we were going to count Luma out it wouldn't just be "hey, victory for the Lefts! Woo!" :IDark Bunnies wrote:I think it's safe to count Luma out for this month and admit victory for the Lefts. Unless someone really wants to count her posts and threads. :U

And how would you know? I'm pretty certain that you guys exceeded us in activity.

Re: Forum Competitions!
Yeah, we had been pretty tied before half of us drowned in work. DX
I'll try to do better this month. I just can't really contribute to conversations sometimes, unless you really want my random thought process every once in a while. :I (the increase in dueling and my forever lack of dueling doesn't help too much, either.)
@Lief: I was saying statistic wise. Because of her rush of activity again, you guys won flat out. Truth was alone too often on our side to keep up with both yours and Lumas' posts, anyway, so yes, I'm pretty sure you guys would have won. Even before Luma came into the picture, I knew you guys would be victorious simply because nearly the entire team disappeared while you guys were still active.

Re: Forum Competitions!
Y'know for whatever reason I thought that you guys were the lefts.
It's probably because Bunny suggested that the Lefts would win, and my brain doesn't typically think "the other team wants us to win". (Ignoring that Bunny probably wouldn't do that. It's just how my brain works.)

Re: Forum Competitions!
But I was active in mid to late April...
I understand that for the sake of time, it's easier to count me out.
But part of the reason I was so active was because of this competition.
