Instead of rubber gloves, usually a nice long insulated pole with a hook on it is used to rescue someone being electrocuted. Deenergizing the circuit isn't always required and doing so usually costs precious time. Alternatively you can tackle the person being electrocuted, but be careful that your trajectory isn't going get you into trouble as well.

Also I think I heard somewhere that DC current is more dangerous than AC on the grounds AC current will rapidly fire your muscles and that could force you away where as DC current will lock up your body.

Rubber gloves are good enough for an anime character holding an electrified rodent. They're good enough for us.

I believe Tesla used that as selling point for his AC stuff rather then Edison's DC (or at least that Tesla noted that DC currents could be used to kill someone, which Edison said with the electric chairs, if I'm remembering my father right   )
