However I feel that as long as the Pokémon clearly want to battle, then it's not. I feel it should also be noted that Mother Nature doesn't give a fuck about something being inhumane or not.

Pokémon look like competitive creatures by nature. In a sense, "battles" happened far before they were even domesticated (Pokeballs).

I actually had an idea a while ago about a story where a Pokémon who doesn't like battling is captured by a trainer who wants to be number 1 at all costs

Sounds interesting. Just don't show it to PETA.
