- theory that contains some spoilery elements, mostly for chapter 4:
- So, I don't know if you guys've heard of this already, but I've seen a theory going around that Isabel's grandpa is actually a ghost.
For one thing: It would explain his aversion to spirits and tools. Especially since it's stated by Spender that ghosts can be drained away by tools. Or maybe he's just prejudiced against spirits because of something that happened to him in the past.
Second: It would explain why Isabel told Max that ghosts don't always get drained by tools. Maybe Francisco's used a tool before, despite his aversion to them. Or that experience caused his aversion to them.
Third: We never see his legs. He's always wearing the bathrobe, which always covers his lower half. Here's a good example of that, in the seventh panel. We never see him wearing anything else, in the same way that we never see PJ wearing anything besides his pajamas. Only problem I see with this is that all other ghosts have their clothes end at the torso along with their body, although the bathrobe is all one item so it might be an exception.
Fourth: It would explain why, in the beginning of chapter five, he says that he's not trapped in Mayview by the barrier. Ghosts can pass through without worry.

- If Isabel has the umbrella tool now, what happens if it turns out it contains another weather spirit? I can't imagine Isaac taking too kindly to that.
