Weapons for each class!

Warrior- broadswords stars with attack +3
Dragoon-Lance starts with Attack +2 and defense +1
Thief-Dagger stars with Attack+1 and speed +2
Paladin-Mace starts with Attack +2 and defense+1
Black Mage-spell-book starts with attack +1 and magic +2
White Mage- Staff starts with Attack +1 and magic defense +2
Summoner- Wand starts with Attack+1, Magic+1 and Magic Defense +1
Red Mage- Rapier starts with Attack+1, Speed +2
Blue Mage- Baton starts with Attack+1 Defense +1 and Magic+1
Beast master-Whip Starts with Attack+1 Speed +2

Updated skills!

Spoiler:
Auto Life-can come back with a little hp from a KO 10 MP, must be activated at thestar of battle. Leveling up can reduce MP cost.
Pickpocket-can steal small times or a little money. 1 MP Leveling up will result in better items and more money.
Hunter-Can kill animals and get meat. higher levels equal more meat
Gather- Finds fruit hight levels equal more fruit can only be used out side of battle
Preparer-Can cook meat or prepare fruit to restore HP and MP respectively. Higher levels mean more HP/MP
Wind Magic-Starts with a wind spell, Wind 5 MP higher levels mean more spells unlocked.
Gravity Magic- Starts with one Gravity spell, Gravity, which removes 10% of HP, costs 10 MP. Higher levels mean higher spells
Enchanter-Adds an elemental element to weapons starts with either Fire, Blizzard or Thunder. More can be unlocked at higher level. 3 MP
Material finder- can find item materials, more materials will be found at higher levels
Alchemist- Can make items, more items become makeable as level goes up
Synergist-Adds buffs starts with Shell and Bravely 5 MP Each more spells be come unlocked at higher levels.
Saboteur-Adds debuffs Starts with Deshell and Debrave 5 MP each more spells become unlocked at higher levels

Admittedly that's only in the Tactics Advance series, though swords were among their weapon list in Final Fantasy V.

I don't think so, you can level up and also upgrade your weapons. I was thinking of doing it Paper mario style where you need 100 points for a level but the foes give less as you go on.

Also, just as an idea (we're going to need *something* to loot, after all), each character could equip a single piece of armor/an accessory/both that gives them bonus stats or access to other skills and/or accessory exclusive skills.

Yeah armor sounds good, but I may do weight classes(Like Light medium and Heavy). Shields will count as accessories.
