Thinking about it, it is possible to sort of "level down" in some games. Minecraft, you lose all your levels of experience when you die. Mario games, you get a mushroom to "level up," but if you touch an enemy, you "level down."

Or if your mining in Wajas you can come across a landslide and level down that way...

but that's that, and wajas, which I haven't done in forever. (I was bored the other day so got on it, and I had to get a new password and everything because I completely forgot it. And then I did the mining game and came across a landslide, which happens more often the higher you are level wise (which I guess I have pretty good levels for mining...especially since finding a Magic Beetle or whatever (which levels you up) is a very rare find)

When you talk to me about levels in video games, what comes to my mind are RPG levels. (I think of the Mario games as having hit points because hit points make everything better. Seriously, that's my way of thinking.) In the older days (and Dungeons and Dragons *cough*Mindflayers*cough*), you can lose levels, but that's usually by enemy action, and you can never force yourself to level down.
