Re: Announcements Thread
The Velvet Room should probably be in the Galactic Arcade. Most (all but three) of the other media things in the series are adaptations of the games.

Re: Announcements Thread
If that's the case, then maybe the Super Pit Stop Level DR Thread should be in the Galactic Arcade, too. Although you could make the argument that visual novels are closer to anime and manga than video games.

Re: Announcements Thread
In Japanese terminology, a distinction is often made between visual novels proper (abbreviated NVL), which consist predominantly of narration and have very few interactive elements, and adventure games (abbreviated AVG or ADV), which may incorporate problem-solving and other types of gameplay. This distinction is normally lost outside Japan

Re: Announcements Thread
honestly I feel sea of japan could be fused with the stage and library since they're just variations of each other :T

Re: Announcements Thread
I guess you're right. After looking over the topics, the most active ones could easily fit in the stage, while the others could be archived since we rarely use them. Otaku corner could be a good fit in the AV section, and we could keep most anime/manga topics in there without having a bunch of inactive threads. Suggest a series could be expanded to other series (like American shows and cartoons). Other manga topics could be carried over into the library's whatcha reading (which, I think some people have done before).

Re: Announcements Thread
I can see the reasoning for integration, but I personally don't feel those reasons are substantial. We needed the forum split to put a lot of content on the top-level, which encourages more discussion across the board.
Content is not the only reason to split a forum. It can be a reason of demographics; anime and manga are generally of a different style and tone when compared to western animation or comics. They come from different cultural backgrounds, have different fan bases, different customs, different tropes, and different traditions. While anime may not be a different medium from western animation, it's certainly a different culture, and I don't think lumping the two into one forum will do either side any good.
There's also a practical issue. By spreading the content from the Sea of Japan out into other forums, it bloats those forums, making it harder to view active threads and easier to pass over inactive threads, which is exactly why we split them in the first place.
While I agree that moving manga to the Stacks would be a boon for its activity, I don't think that's the solution. If we abolish the Sea of Japan, then the Stacks get more focus, but the A/V Club gets more bloated, which causes more problems than it solves. We could keep the Sea of Japan and just move manga to the Stacks, but anime and manga are basically a package deal, and it would be weird having a whole forum for anime where you can't really discuss manga.
Overall, I feel the current configuration provides the best balance between promoting activity and keeping logical forum divisions.

Re: Announcements Thread
The thing that convinced me was that anime and manga are a package deal which they really are, having two threads which differ only in format but not any other way sounds like a waste
