Re: Homework Help
Hmm... I'm actually having a harder time finding if the gov't has been more or less transparent than previous administrations...

Re: Homework Help
Sounds like you've got a cruel teacher compared to me. My teacher is a former public defense attorney for minors and ignoring the fact she eventually has us outline virtually the entire textbook over the course of the class, she's a very interesting teacher to have. Especially since every class begins with a class discussion over a recent event or issue that is relevant to teenagers.
*digs out my Government notes to be sure*
I really should have labeled these with the Chapter names
*gets the right chapter on my second try*
That doesn't sound quite right.Lief Katano wrote:A system of government in which most of the important decisions are made by state officials rather than by elected representatives.
That bureaucracy?

- My notes:
- I wrote:Chapter 15, Section 1 - The Federal Bureaucracy
What Is a Bureaucracy?
Although Bureaucracy has the connotation of being inefficient, a Bureaucracy is actually an efficient way of organizing people on a large scale.
Three Features of Bureaucracy
Bureaucracies have three main characteristics
*Hierarchical Authority - The chain of command is set up like a pyramid with those on the highest tier having control over the next and so on.
*Job Specialization - Everyone in the organization, called a bureaucrat, has specific duties and responsibilities.
*Formalized Rules - The bureaucracy operates on a set of rules and regulations.
The Benefits of a Bureaucracy
Having a hierarchy speeds up the operation by reducing conflicts.
Job specialization means each worker has a job to do and they are adapt at doing that job.
Having a set of rules and procedures allows the worker to make limited decisions as decisions are based on the procedures. This also allows new workers to become quickly familiar with what is expected in situation x.
Public bureaucracies are not made up of elected policymakers. Many positions are filled with appointments.
Major Elements of the Federal Bureaucracy
The Federal Bureaucracy is collectively made up of all the agencies that carry out the actions of the Federal Government and most of the Federal Bureaucracy is part of the executive branch.
Note the Constitution barely mentions how the laws are to be executed by the president. It does mention two departments, one military and one diplomatic, but that’s pretty much it.
The Name Game
Any agency part of the Cabinet has the title of department, but there is otherwise little standardization.
Agency, Administration, commission, corporation, and authority are all commonly used in the Executive branch.
Agencies are often governmental or could be used to describe a bureaucracy with an administrator with a rank similar to cabinet member. Administrator is also used similarly.
Commission is used to identify agencies that regulate businesses. Some investigative agencies also are given this title.
Corporation and authority are usually given to agencies that conduct business-like activities. Usually they are managed by a board and manager.
The lack of standardization is also apparent within the agencies. For example Bureau often has the same meaning as service, administration, office, branch, and division.

Re: Homework Help
So, I'm in Geometry G/T and because I was a little focused on my essay that wasn't due today, and because this class is 1st hour and I took a nap upon getting home, I'm not 100% sure on how to do this thing.
- I need to find the area of circle 'H' when we already know the area of the shaded section. I think you need to use the reverse equation for finding the area of the shaded section...:

Re: Homework Help
Well, uh, speaking as someone who hasn't dealt with this type of problem yet but has an idea on how to do it, since 4.5 80's make up 360, wouldn't you multiply the area of the area you know by 4.5?

Re: Homework Help
Assuming point H is the center of the circle and that hypothetical line GH can be extended to divide the shaded area (which I will call HEF) equally, that means each of the halves created by GH is 140 degrees. I would then find how many HEFs it takes to equal one of the hypothetical halves and find the area of one halve by adding up how many HEFs it takes. Then double that number and add HEF's area to get the answer.Burnin' Bunnies wrote:

That's my way at least, probably not the way your teacher wants to do it.
EDIT: This is essentially Lief's way, just a tad different.

Lief:
Well, sir, it looks to me that you've found a shortcut, and I like it!! :D I checked it, and it works, so I'm going with it. Thank you good sir, I shall learn the "proper" way to do so tomorrow. (Now to see if the other two questions like this are as smooth as this one...)
You know, I'm really good at math and can usually find shortcuts like those, but to be honest, this whole year has just been off for me, and I'm not sure exactly what it is...besides the possible Senior-itis that I got at the beginning of 9th grade... :I
I blame my older siblings going to college.
Truth: You ninja'd me.

I also have geometry homework tonight, but I have an A in that class and a 98% so I won't fret over it.

I always do my homework except for when I forget. Even if I procrastinate terribly, I still do it.

Re: Homework Help
Well in my school, we have 8 classes that alternate in groups of 4 every 2 days, normally it'd be due thursday as it was assigned today (next time I'm SUPPOSED to have class) but the juinors are taking the ACT tomorrow, and freshman and sophomores take the ACT's underlings on thursday(the PLAN test for freshman and the EXPLORE test for sophomores). I'm a sophomore at the moment, and I used to say I was a senior last year when I was a freshman, but I figured it was better to tell the truth instead of saying I'm 3 years older. And as such on wednesday I don't go to school, so it's neither periods 1-4(an "A" day) or periods 5-8(a "B" day) however, Thursday is a "B" day despite not having 4 classes, but a test for the entire day. As such, Friday would be when the assignment is due, but teachers don't expect homework in or give out homework on 4/25 as the nearby college hosts an annual sports relay that any student can opt out of school to go to. Thus my geometry homework is due Tuesday of next week.
It's confusing at first, I know, but you get used to it by living it.

Re: Homework Help
Sophmore here :I post can be deceiving.
Ah, block schedual. My older siblings had that in their high school, but alas, I moved in 8th grade before I could enter the high school their. I honestly think it is a pretty good system, but of course it has its flaws.
