Damn that was a hard hit. Thankfully it seems he was not majorly injured as he's simply being held for evaluation, a testament to the safety built into those cars.

The 2018 Monster Energy Cup Series schedule is out now. Among some of the notable changes are Indy being host to the final regular season race before the Chase begins, and Charlotte will have one of the first few races in the chase...as a road course ran through the infield track!

I didn't realize Charlotte was large enough to have a road course.

Me either. I'm excited to see what it'll be like! And honestly, it's about time they added another road course to the schedule.

Man, I always forget how much good racing is on Memorial Day weekend. The Formula 1 Monaco Grand Prix is on NBC right now, the Indianapolis 500 is later today on ABC, and later tonight for NASCAR is the Coca-Cola 600 on FOX.

...and there's still the Crystal Storm event on Paladins and free weekend for Overwatch that I want to play... Times like this I wish I still had a laptop.

Some milestones happen yesterday.

Takuma Sato became the first Japanese driver to win the Indianapolis 500, and Austin Dillon picks up his first ever win during last night's Coke 600.

Dillon managed to save just enough fuel to outlast the field, literally running out as he crossed the line. He took the lead from Jimmie Johnson with about 2 laps to go when Johnson ran out of fuel, while Kyle Bush and Martin Truex Jr. had to play catch up because they did stop for fuel and tires earlier.

Besides this being the first win for Dillon, this marks the first time that the #3 has been in victory lane since the late Dale Earnhardt drove to victory lane at Talladega...in the year 2000 (around 17 years ago).

Apparently, they give a lobster as a trophy to the winner of the New Hampshire race.

Denny Hamlin wasn't too keen on that yesterday:

Damn look at the size of that monster. I would've kept it as a pet, then had the thing stuffed when it died.

Alex Bowman will be the new driver in the 88 after Dale Jr. retires. Very excited to hear this since he did such a good job last year subbing for Dale.

The 2018 Camero ZL1 will be used as Chevy's Monster Energy series car. It looks gorgeous! Ooo... Aaaah...

In other recent news, Kasey Kahne will not return to Hendrick Motorsports in 2018. Taking Khane's place will be William Byron, a young driver from the truck series and Xfinity series. He has had a developmental contract with Hendrick, so not a huge surprise to see him taking over.

What this means, however, is that Hendrick Motorsports will have a very young roster with this new lineup:
William Byron, in the #5 next year, is only 19.
Chase Elliott, who took over the #24 in 2016 after Jeff Gordon retired, is 21.
Alex Bowman, who will be replacing the retiring Dale Jr. in the #88 next year, is 24.
That leaves Jimmie Johnson, in the #48, as the only veteran driver at Hendrick at 41.

That does look cool! I was just at the Ford Dealership earlier and they usually keep most of their high end Mustangs at the front door. Well they happen to have a used Camero ZL1 there and it was stuck off by itself. It looked really nice. I still prefer my old work trucks to that though, because I'm weird.
