Planning on what my next computer will be.

I'm off from work today, so I thought I'd look around and see what might be a good option for me when I get enough money saved up.

I was considering a desktop, but my grandma pointed something out to me that I hadn't thought about: Desktops take up more power than laptops, no? Our house has the crappiest wiring and anything too big will blow a circuit almost instantly, so having a desktop may not be a good idea...

So yeah, I'm just going to stick to laptops for now. I know what I want, but when I look online and see something that looks good, I check the reviews for it and am met with a mixed up mess ranging from "IT'S SOOOOOO FAST! I CAN PLAY GTA V ON IT AT 200FPS!!!" to "Too slow for my needs. Returned it and got my money back. 1 star."

...so yeah, I have no idea what's good and what's not... Again, I know what I want: Something fast enough to play most games at something better than less than 10 FPS (honestly don't care if I have to play on lower quality settings, I just want good framerate), something that won't overheat like crazy and have a meltdown, and something that will also be able to still browse the web and play videos/livestreams with no lag. A good amount of harddrive and memory space is also nice.

I'm either going to buy something next month (with my recent raise and extra hours, saving has become much easier), which should give me about $400 to $500 to work with in regards to budget, or I was going to wait until around Christmas to make sure I have plenty in savings to get what I need.

I suggest waiting until you have $500 to $700 to get a good laptop. One of the biggest things I recommend looking for is an Intel i7 processor, one of the most powerful processors out there for laptops right now.

I'm very pleased with my present laptop, a Dell Inspiron 15 7000 series, brand new I think that laptop is a price-range of $600 to $700. I got it open-box for $550. It has an i7 and according to Windows Task Manager has a maximum clock speed of 2.60 GHz. Task Manager was also reporting to me that my computer was processing at over 3 GHz.

According to one of my friends, whom just bought a kinda off brand small gaming laptop with great specs for $600 (I think), AMD Radeon graphics are the best.

He also doesn't like Dell. And I don't like HP, my family has had issues with them, other friends have had issues. Acer is a brand that served me well for a long time (My first two laptops were Aspire ONEs), but I don't think they have many performance models.

A while back, when I was looking into what computer I would get, I would post in some forums (like Minecraft) that had tech and PC help sections, and almost everyone would either say build my own, or, if I had to get a laptop, Asus and Lenovo were the best brands. Nobody seemed to like Acer for some reason, but my mom recommended Acer and told me that one of her coworkers had an Asus, but it was awful. Then there's my uncle who swears by HP, but has only had experience with the desktops.

...so yeah, I've been getting a lot of conflicting things about the best brand too...

Now that you've mentioned it, Lenovo is the brand that my friend bought and he was working with both during the camps we were teaching and it was clear that the Lenovo was far superior than the Asus that it replaced.

*just searched on Amazon for my model*

Holy crap, Amazon is listing the latest version of this model for $700 to $1000.

Here's one that is close to mine, though it has a slightly different configuration. https://www.amazon.com/Dell-Inspiron-15-15-6-Inch-Processor/dp/B01EMU984C/ref=sr_1_6?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1471204011&sr=1-6&keywords=dell+inspiron+15+7000

*whistles* 12 gigs of memory? That would work for me! Definitely saving up more.

Also thought of something else: If I wait until November, I may get a good black Friday or cyber Monday deal.

Oh yeah, I forgot about that kinda thing. I would definitely try to pick it up on sale.

Another thought is, if you're looking for a gaming laptop, to wait until this new graphics card is released (I forget its name, I'll look it up). It's sooner than November, and you're bound to get great deals on good gaming laptops because the value of gaming laptops pre graphics card will go down in value. I'll get more info on this.

That is interesting, perhaps I'll think acquiring a dedicated gaming laptop.
