It's a generally held fact that, if a person asks a silent protagonist what their name is, then says their name, the silent protagonist just told the person their name.
Telling you this now because you're going to deal with it a lot in the future.
Also I'm 90% certain that Faore is useless without a linked game.

- Reaction:
- I thought this was a Zelda game not something that looks like I imagine Shovel Knight to be.

I know that, I was just playing it up for some humor. :BLief Katano wrote:It's a generally held fact that, if a person asks a silent protagonist what their name is, then says their name, the silent protagonist just told the person their name.

Well, if that's true, at least she'll be useful when we get to Seasons. Also I'm 90% certain that Faore is useless without a linked game.

- response to your reaction (which I'm not entirely certain why we need to spoiler, but will run along with anyway :I):
- Next update, we'll get a watering can and see if we can try our hand at Animal Crossing.

If you really wanted to get your Shovel Knight on, you could equip the Shovel and the Sword and the same time and then do a ~combination attack~ by pressing the A and B button at the same time.
...in Link's Awakening. I don't think it works in Oracle.

Re: [Blind] Legend of Zelda: Oracles (Part 7—Beware the Forest's Bunnies!)
So, issue: I can cut off the update around the point where we reach the dungeon, which results in a really short update, or I can cut it off around the point where we finish the dungeon, which results in a really long update.
Which should I do?
Which should I do?

I say go for short.
Guest- Guest
[Blind] Legend of Zelda: Oracles (Part 5—YOLO Graveyard)
Update! Went with a short one. :B
- Part 5:
Hey guys, welcome back to my blind LP of Legend of Zelda: Oracles! Last time around, we saved the Maku Tree from being retroactively non-existent and finally discovered our true quest: to find the Essences of Time!
I'd just like to start this update by confirming that, as per Lief's knowledge, the sword/shovel combo attack does not work in Oracles...
But nevermind that! In this update, with our Ember Seeds in hand, we'll be heading off to find the first Essence of Time in Yoll Graveyard!
Oh hey, these guys are back! Let's see what they have to say.
Where has Nayru gone to?!?
...You literally witnessed an evil blue person tell Nayru that something horrible was about to happen right in front of her. Even if you ran away after she said that, surely you can deduce what happened there.
Nayru is gone so there are no more songs...
He doesn't seem too charmed by this turn of events. :B
Without Nayru's songs, I can't jump in rhythm.
Hey, look on the bright side! At least you're not a Spoink. :I
The entrance to Yoll Graveyard is in the same fateful map tile where we saved the blue lady from the octopus...
And now we have to equip the Ember Seeds, which means... bye-bye shovel!
But in turn, WE GET TO LIGHT STUFF ON FIRE
As soon as you step inside the graveyard, the place goes dark. But the cheery music remains, for whatever reason.
There's a path to the north and a path to the east. Let's take the path to the north first.
Looks like we can't do anything about this puzzle up here yet... Remind me when we get a tool that looks like it'd be useful here!
And come to think of it, it may not even be a puzzle, just a waste of a map space. Cuz it doesn't seem to go anywhere.
If you go east from the entrance and then north, you'll reach this gate we can't open yet. So south it is!
By the way, if you're wondering where my Ember Seeds are going, muscle memory makes it so I keep trying to dig while I have the Ember Seeds equipped...
Oh, um. Hello mister ghostie! Please don't hurt me.
Hey, the grass around here contains Ember Seeds!
Seems you can't collect more than 20 at a time, though.
No way! It's too scary!
It's pitch black inside that grave beneath the tree!
...Why do you know there's a grave beneath a tree and how is it big enough for you and your friends to walk around in
Shut up! It's no good if you get scared!
Besides...
It might come out...
...The ghost.
Aaaaand they all shiver then run away.
Oooooookaaaaaay.
ANYWAY, let's cross the bridge.
HEEEEEEEART PIEEEEEEECE
I don't think we can get it yet, though...
That looks like the dungeon over there. Wonder how we get in?
If you burn down these trees, the top one gives you a rupee, and the bottom one opens a path.
Um. I guess this must be that "pitch black grave underneath the tree" those kids were talking about.
Let's liven it up a bit.
...That skull isn't ominous at all
If you light both torches, you get a key!
This probably goes to that gate we saw earlier.
VIDEO GAME LOGIC TELLS ME PUSHING GRAVES IS A REALLY GOOD IDEA. Because there might be secrets under them. Respect for the dead be damned, we're a protagonist!
Except there's nothing under here. Sorry! :B
It worked!
That tree thing over there looks interesting. Remind me to come back here when I can reach it.
Also, the crows attack you.
Looks like this is how you get to the ghostie dude. Something tells me we should come back here when we can move/break that rock.
We've reached the dungeon!
This is a good place to stop off. Next time, we'll be venturing into the dungeon, and hopefully getting our first Essence of Time! See you guys then.

[Blind] Legend of Zelda: Oracles (Part 6—Spirit's Rave)
Update!
- part 6:
Hey guys, welcome back to my blind LP of Legend of Zelda: Oracles! Last time around, we journeyed through Yoll Graveyard and made it to the dungeon! This time we'll be exploring that dungeon in full. Exciting.
These... eye things... follow me around...
Kinda creepy. Anyway, my protagonist drive tells me that the right path is the path to go if you wanna collect everything and explore all the rooms, so ONWARD
AHHHH BIGGER BLOBS
Hit these guys once and they'll turn into a couple of the smaller blobs we saw in the past Maku Road.
Take 'em all out and the door opens up here!
Something tells me we must push this block. I dunno. Just a thought. :B
Pushing the block causes fire to happen, which somehow opens the doors!
But first I wanna be a WICKED PUNK REBEL and go up those stairs over there, cuz I saw a ledge with treasure on it in the other room.
Oh, hey! I wasn't expecting to get the map this early, but I'll take it. :B
Press SELECT to see it. The darkened rooms are ones you haven't been to yet.
I guess that's pretty neato.
Also, the dungeon kinda looks like a flame. A little bit.
I have to come in from the other side to do the block puzzle again...
You guys don't look so healthy.
I GUESS I MUST KILL YOU THEN.
In case you guys are wondering, you can't push those blocks, they're just there for... reasons. I dunno. :B
...
This thing. I do not trust this thing right here.
GHOSTIEEEEE
You have to defeat this ghost to leave the room, which can get kinda annoying cuz he can go through walls and you can't.
I GOT A KEEEEEEEY
Use it to open a locked door or block in this dungeon.
Aaaaand there was absolutely no point to anything in the center of the room. Great.
This room is interesting because depending on which way you walk in, you'll always block off one of the paths. From this direction we block our way to the treasure chest.
gershdern bats
IT'S REALLY HARD COMING UP WITH COMMENTARY IN A DUNGEON.
Um. Why is there grass growing through the solid floor? I can't even dig around here.
THE GRASS IS MIGHTIER THAN THE SHOVEL.
How the heckie am I supposed to get that.
OHHHHHHHHH. OH. Oh.- image:
I already have a key
But it doesn't matter, because if we go back to that room with the four paths...
Use it to track your position, locate chests, and find keys.
Pretty neat.
Now if you look at the dungeon map...
You'll notice there's a room with a treasure chest in it right next to us. But there's no door to get there.
Soooo...
LIGHT IT ON FIYAAAAH
Shiny crystals
...Except they're not really that shiny, but whatever :I
THE TWIG IS MIGHTIER THAN THE CRYSTAL.
By the way, these snakes will start charging you REALLY FRACKIN' FAST when they see you, so be ready.
SUPER SOMERSAULT SKILLS! Are making Link look like some sorta weird garden gnome from Green Person Hell.
This is the room to the left of the entrance I HEARD A JINGLE JANGLE.
Pottery, foiling us again
I WILL FIND THE SOURCE OF THE JINGLE JANGLE. Someday. It's probably that treasure chest up there.
Looks like our best bet is to go up and around the loop.
Oh hey, I passed by this room earlier, it was the one next to where we learned that grass is mightier than the shovel.
Up here...
Press the button and MAGIC HAPPENS.
We could probably plant this where we saw those kids last update.
This reminds me to check on the Gasha Seed we planted a few episodes back. :B
WITH ALL THIS GRASS WE MAY AS WELL BE ON THE PRAIRIE.
Anyway, we can finally use one of our keys.
OH.
GUESS WHAT! WE'RE FIGHTING A MIDBOSS GUYS!
These little ghosts regenerate, so it's no use attacking them unless they attack you.
They act like those small goo-balls that we saw in Maku Road, clinging onto you until you shake them off.
So really your best bet is to BUTTON MASH YOUR WAY TO VICTORY!
Speaking of victory!
Defeating that guy gets you a fairy and a portal! If my knowledge of Zelda is right, the fairy is a full heal and the portal leads you back to the entrance.
I love being right!
SUSPICIOUS SYMMETRY.
...Except the map says there's nothing here. What a waste of symmetry.
AND SUDDENLY, ZOMBIES.
Zombies vanquished!
NOT QUITE.
Remember kids! If you're stuck...
LIGHT IT ON FIRE!
*gasp* shrimp- image:
Hold the button and press the control pad to lift heavy objects!
WE FINALLY GET THE POWER TO LIFT THINGS UP.
HWAAAAAH--
YAAAAAAAAAA!
Standing still while throwing things will cause them to fall to the ground at your feet. Running while throwing things will cause them to fly a fair distance.
TAKE THAT POTTERY. NO LONGER SHALL YOU HOLD ME DOWN. NOW I HOLD YOU UP!
All that for a ring.
There's a room south of us through that opening in the wall.
This puzzle is kinda counter-intuitive. You'd think since you just got the ability to pick things up, you'd have to pick up the jar and set it down on the button. But that shatters it.
What you actually have to do...
...is push it. Which we've been able to do before. But never on jars.
And of course, we could've used this whole jar-pushing mechanic before, but NOOOOO.
JINGLE JANGLE
I FOUND THE SOURCE OF THE JINGLE JANGLE!
Looks like the only way forward is through the Boss Door!
An empty room? Okay. Cool.
By the way, this is the room to the left of the Boss Door.
OH HELLO MISTER DISEMBODIED HAND FROM THE SKY. HAVE YOU TALKED TO YOUR FRIEND DISEMBODIED HAND FROM THE FLOOR RECENTLY.
OH YEAH. YOU DON'T HAVE A MOUTH.
Alright, time for the boss battle! With a... jack-o-lantern... dude :B
He walks around the arena, bumping into things. Probably because he doesn't actually have eyes, just holes where they should be.
If you attack him enough times, he starts to jump around the arena, and there's not much you can do at this point except dodge.
Attack him again, and his body will disappear...
...And when you pick up the head, you'll see his true form!
He'll try to get back into the pumpkin as quick as he can, so throw it as far away as possible and do this:
After awhile, he starts breathing fireballs, so watch out!
What pumpkin?
WHOA WAIT WHAT. WHAT. AWESOME.
TOTALLY RAD.- video:
You got the Eternal Spirit, an Essence of Time!
Even after life ends, it speaks across time to the heart.
Um. Okay, that makes no sense, but we got an Essence of Time!
THE PUMPKIN MAN IS BACK TO HAUNT US
It's me, the Maku Tree!
Oh, nevermind, it's just the Maku Lady.
I hear an essence echoing in the Western Woods.
You don't have ears.
Can you go there?
Sure thing, Maku Lady!
But I think first we're gonna end the update! We cleared a dungeon, fought two boss battles, got a new piece of equipment, and found an Essence of Time. I think that's enough progress for today. :B
Next time, we'll be taking care of unfinished business in Yoll Graveyard now that we can pick things up, and seeing how much of the Western Woods we can take care of after that. See you guys then!
