Re: Let's Play Cave Story!
Part 9: Final Boss of the Sand Zone:
- Spoiler:
- So last time, Balrog had just taken the storeroom key from Jenka. Now I'm heading there to try and stop them. Getting there is just like when I was looking for the puppy, so I'll skip posting about that and start here:
I'll save at the spot you shoot down the save disc and head in, which leads to this cutscene:
: My lord.
I have brought all the seeds as you requested.
: Well done.
By the by...
The flowers that bloom there.
: My, my...
They're more uncanny than even I had imagined...
: My lord...
Shall I consume one as a test?
: ...No, let us not do that.
.....
Hmmm...
Instead, let us test the reaction on a Mimiga.
: Yes, my lord.
Misery then summons Toroko:
She then falls to the floor:
: ......
Where am...?
She soon figures it out though:
: Waah!
She then tries to run away, but Balrog drops down and stops her:
: Where do you think you're going?
: Balrog.
Feed this one a flower.
: You got it.
He then proceeds to force feed a flower to her:
: Eat it. Eat it!
Get your hands off her!!
King then attacks Balrog:
Balrog then runs away (by crashing through the roof again...).
King checks on Toroko:
: Toroko!
Are you okay?!
: ...K...King...?
Ooohhhh...
My...my head...
: !!
No!!
He then sees the Doctor:
: You! You're that Doctor!
: .....
Why, yes.
I am the Doctor.
And from now on, I am your new leader.
Pleased to make your acquaintance.
Now, what exactly is it you plan to do with that sword?
Hm-hm-hmm...
: I'll kill you!!
King then charges toward the Doctor:
But Misery zaps him with lightning and sends him flying into the wall:
Then I come in:
: You're that soldier from the surface!
: Here, they're all yours!
Oh, no, no, don't thank me.
Have fun, you three.
The Doctor disappears, then Toroko then starts changing.....
Sadly, she's the last boss of the Sand Zone....
Beating her isn't that easy either... She hops around and throws these big blocks at you that you can't destroy:
You just have to dodge them, then destroy the little yellow flowers that come out of the blocks and try to attack you. She also has a lot of HP for this stage of the game....
I proceed to die my first time battling her because I was trying to get a screenshot of her throwing the blocks... At least I got the shot! :D
On my second try, I just fireball her to death...
She then disappears (apparently the way they have someone die in this game):
Bad shot since I was in the corner, but anyway, with Toroko now defeated, I check on King:
: It's too late for me.
Will you...avenge me...?
He then dies and disappears....
He leaves his sword behind though:
The Blade doesn't seem like much of a weapon, but it's one of the best weapons in the game. I'll show it off later. First, a moment for Toroko and King. Those are official soundtracks, but I have no idea where in the game they come in, so I figured they'd be appropriate here...
Now let's head back out:
.... It's Balrog again....
All right! Come out and fight me! You'll pay for what you did to Toroko! I may be weakened from that fight but I'm ready for.....
*gets flattened*
.... You.......
: Sorry! Hee-hee-hee.
You don't sound too sorry....
Misery then comes back....
: You remind me of the one back then.
A tough little robot just like you...
I can see confronting you directly just makes things complicated.
: To the Labyrinth with you.
She then teleports me away:
: And you as well.
: ...Uh?
She then teleports Balrog away:
*poof*
: Ho-ho-ho...
Heavens, that felt good.
Then the scene shifts to this:
".....
It looks like you hit the ground.
Where is this place?"
Then the scene goes here:
And welcome to one of my least favorite parts of this game......
We'll talk to the robots around us first. Let's start with the one next to me:
I bet Misery tossed you down here.
You poor thing...
This is the island's trash heap.
Once you get in, you never get out...
Lovely..... Now the one by the door:
The switch that opens this door is supposed to be up top somewhere.
But the footing's tricky up there.
I fell over and over again until I broke my legs.
So there is a way to get out, but yeah, the climb up to open it is very tricky... And that's why I hate this part... :P
And now the last robot:
"There is no reply."
...Guess his batteries ran out....
I then shoot down the save disc located above me and save my progress. Real quick, I'll show off the blade at level 1:
I won't be able to level it up anytime soon, so it'll be awhile before we see it's full potential.
Anyway, that'll do it for this part. Next time, we try to escape the Labyrinth. Until then, see ya!

Re: Let's Play Cave Story!
Part 10: Something tells me that Cap was the only one following this LP:
- Part 10:
- Last time, Misery dumped me in the Labyrinth. Now I have to climb up this part to get to the thing that opens the door:
There's purple Critters here. These little bastards hover in the air and shoot at you...
A real pain in the ass when you're trying to climb up here...
Fortunately, they're not that strong, so killing them is easy when you get the chance to. The Blade works well on them, even at level 1.
Moving on up:
More Critters....
Later:
Life Capsule! :D
It's under a Critter, but I take care of it (along with the others around it). Moving on:
Some moving blocks....
You have to do a bit of careful jumping here to get past them:
And there's the thing to open the door!
Hell yeah!
*door opens up slowly*
I jump back down (fortunately, falling from high up doesn't damage or kill you like in some games). Now to get out of here!
*leaves*
*goes over to the blue pile of scrap*
"It's a robot. What's left of it."
Oi.... Wonder if that thing in the shot got to it.....
That thing is called a Gaudi. We'll be seeing many more of them later on....
Getting through this part is kinda simple, but you have to watch out for the moving blocks that will crush you if you're not careful...
Finally make it out of this part though and into the next part:
Ugh... More Critters....
These are easier to handle though. I just launch a few fireballs at them and they fall into the spaces the Critters are hiding in.
Later on:
Ugh... More Gaudi.....
Again, the fireball works well from around here.
We'll see what's behind the door in a sec, but first, another enemy to show:
A flying Gaudi... They shoot things at you and are annoying as hell....
Now for inside that building:
More Gaudi....
Fortunately, these won't attack, so let's see what they have to say:
First one near door:
Aah... I'm SO hungry for Mimiga flesh...
*sniff sniff*
YOU smell a bit like Mimiga.
*gets the hell away from that one*
Next one on the ground floor:
Long, long ago, there lived a witch on this island.
She's the one who constructed this labyrinth, in order to keep us Gaudis penned up.
Now the one above him:
Have you ever seen the outside of this island?
This island is floating high in the skies.
As to how it manages to float...
That secret lies within this maze.
Oooooo.... Fascinating!
Moving on, the one on the far right of the shot:
There is an exit to this maze.
But the path to it is blocked by a huge boulder.
And moving the boulder would be just the beginning of your trials...
Brilliant...... :P
Now for this guy:
This is the Labyrinth Shop!
But, sad to say, we got burgled a while back, and there's nothing to sell right now.
Sorry 'bout that...
Now, depending on what weapons you have with you, he might have something for you. Earlier, if I had traded for Curly's Machine Gun, he would have given me the Turbocharger (it increases the speed of the ammo reload of the Machine Gun (and I think the Bubbler as well)). Instead of that though:
Hm?
Hey, you've got something pretty spiffy there.
A Polar Star and a Fireball, unless I miss my guess.
I'll go ahead and say yes for now to show this to you guys, but I'll restart later since I saved my game right back near that upper Gaudi:
"Handed over the Polar Star.
Handed over the Fireball."
One of the weapons I haven't tried out yet! I'll show it off in a sec, but first, the shop Gaudi has a few more things to say:
The one who sealed us up in here is a witch named Jenka.
...But it's not because she hates us or anything.
We're here in this labyrinth in order to protect something.
...I don't really remember what it is anymore, but that's all right!
We'll find out what is down here much later, now to show off the Snake:
Yeah, it doesn't look like much (although, it's only at level 1 right now), but here's what's so awesome about it:
IT CAN SHOOT THROUGH WALLS!!!
Anyway, I want to get another weapon, and it requires that I have the Polar Star, so I'll reset here and say no this time:
Anyway, moving on in the labyrinth, there's more Gaudi....
I also get the Blade up to level 2:
Basically makes it bigger and more powerful.
After taking out more Gaudi, I come to this door:
Inside is a clinic-like place:
I think I see Curly!
Let's talk to the green thing on the left first:
I'm a physician.
Here, let me refill your health.
*health get's refilled*
No, no, no charge, don't worry.
In return, though, there's something I'd like to ask of you.
*gives me a key:*
There's an old clinic near here.
Go and see if there isn't any medicine left in there.
So yay! Free healing! And he'll do this anytime we talk to him. But now we have to run an errand for the doc. Not too bad for free healing around here. Now let's talk to the other green thing:
I'm a nurse.
I used to work in the old clinic nearby, but it was seized by ghosts, and I fled here.
Ghosts!?
Meh, it's probably nothing. Anyway, let's talk to Curly:
: Oh, hey!
Haven't seen YOU in a while.
You're looking good!
That witch tossed you down here too, eh?
Same as me!
: So you weren't able to beat them after all...
I'd actually had my hopes for you, but...
And me, I tried.
Oh, I tried.
And just look where it got me.
.....
And all for nothing.
In the end, I couldn't save any of those children.
The shape I'm in now, I won't be leaving anytime soon...
Talking to her again, she says this:
: I survived, yeah, but now what?
Guess I'm just going to sit here and rot...
Let's see if I can find something in that old clinic to help her feel better. Along the way up to it, I get the blade up to level 3. When you use the Blade at this level, a ghostly image of King appears around it and attacks an enemy it touches. It also let's off these beams/slashes/whatever around it that damage enemies:
Odd, but when I took those shots, I thought I had a shot of the ghostly image of King, but it didn't show up.... Creepy....
Anyway, the old clinic is just above where that doc is currently:
The only thing inside though is a chest:
But in the chest is what we're looking for:
Yep, this should help Curly!
Before I can get out of the Clinic though.....
It's called a Pooh Black.... No idea why, but anyway, it's not that bad. It surrounds itself with these black bubble-like things when you shoot at it:
They don't do much in the way of protecting him, but anyway.
It will occasionally jump up (similar to the way Balrog jumps up through the roof...), then come back down and try to land on you. You'll see where it'll land by the bubbles that come down before it does.
Eventually, I beat it:
And it fades away into a bunch of bubbles:
Anyway, now that I have this cure-all, I'll head back to the doc.
Oh, you found it!
Many thanks.
Just let me handle the rest.
The nurse just tells me good job and asks if I saw any ghosts.
Now for Curly:
: This is the legendary Labyrinth.
I don't know who made it, but it's apparently the trash heap of the island.
There's only one way out.
You have to get past the giant rock in the Boulder Chamber.
I'd go with you, but with the state I'm in, I'd just get in your way...
She'll have a change of heart once the Cure All takes affect. For now, I go ahead and get all my weapons maxed out in exp, then head back to the doc to heal. After he heals me again, he talks to me for a bit:
She'll be back in action in no time.
All thanks to you, of course.
Wow..... That's one powerful medicine if it got her healed up that quickly.
I then talk to the nurse again:
Oh, did you come to check up on that girl?
She went off towards the "Boulder Chamber".
So we'll head that way too.
Getting there isn't easy though....... First off:
There's a doorway I can't reach because I can't jump high enough in a certain spot to reach the area it's in... Last time, I had Curly's Machine Gun and it was simple to get up there. It leads to an area above where that doc is (you can see it in the screenshots). There's a chest in that area, but I can't remember what's in it... Maybe I'll come back later to see.
Anyway, another problem I have without the Machine Gun is this part:
While not impossible to get through here, it's very tricky.... There's another moving block that comes down when you stand here. In the last playthrough, I just used the machine gun to hover over on the side until the block went down and went up on it to the next part. However, since I can't hover, I have to do some carefully timed jumping. If I mess up:
I fall in these spikes and damage myself badly, or:
Get flattened..... :P
Anyway, I made it past there once and reached here:
And ended up dying.....
Anyway, in that shot is one of the big pains in my ass from last time.... Monster X. I'll get to him next time, but I will say that he has a ton of Gaudi around him....
So yeah, things are going to be quite difficult for me in the next part: Getting past that block without getting too badly damaged, then fighting Monster X and all the Gaudi around it......
I can predict that I will die many times in the next part.....
Just for fun, if any of you guys actually read through this, take a guess at how many times I die in the next part. Person who guesses the closest number wins a cookie! :D
Anyway, until then, see ya!

Re: Let's Play Cave Story!
Part 11: I'M GONNA DIE!!!1!ELEVEN
- Part 11:
- So yeah, it's time to find out how many times I die fighting Monster X....
First time I head towards it, I make it past the tricky moving block part unharmed! :D
Now for the first battle:
Monster X rolls around on these tank-like things on each side of it (it also has them on the top going across the ceiling). If you get hit by one, you take a lot of damage. Best way to avoid them is to just ride on top of them. You do have do watch out when Monster X reaches the end of the room as it will go past the laser barriers on each side, causing you to get zapped by them and causing damage.
Every time you get on the other side of Monster X, it will start heading in that direction. So if you jump past it (done so by jumping through the middle of it), it will change directions and go in the direction you're in now.
After a while, it will stop and open up to fire these things at you. This is when you can start attacking:
The first step is to take out the 4 green crystal-like things inside it (note, I had already destroyed one in the shot, and the other 2 green things are it's eyes(?)). One of the best things at taking out these crystals is the Blade. Once the crystals are gone, it will start taking damage:
And also start firing rockets at you.....
The blade also works well for taking out the rockets (especially when it's at level 3).
After a while, my health starts getting low.... Buuuuuut:
I remember I have this! :D
I then start using the Missile launcher to damage Monster X, which knocks out a big chunk of it's HP. After I do that, I:
Beat it! O_O
Whoa..... Never would have guessed that I would beat it on my first try!
I missed one shot as Monster X was blowing up: Apparently, a large cat-like thing was inside controlling it or something... It flies out and falls off screen once Monster X is completely gone.
After that, I head towards the end of this area, which leads to a door. Going through it takes me here:
And then something falls in front of me:
He falls to the part below. Now, if you want to see the perfect ending, do not, I repeat, DO NOT go down to check on him! I'll explain why in a sec.
Fortunately, there's a save disc above me, so I jump up to it and save the game.
Now, as for why you must not check on Booster for the Perfect Ending, here's why: If you talk to him, it prevents you from getting certain items necessary to proceed with events for the Perfect Ending.
Now, I accidentally fall down there a few times and have to restart because it's impossible to get back up to where you were unless you talk to Booster. You'll see why in a bit.
The main reasons why I fell down the first few times was because I was trying to get to the health refill thing on the top right of this area, but it's impossible without a jet pack or Curly's Machine Gun. The other times was trying to get across to the other door where the next part of this level is... Fortunately, that part is accessible by jumping carefully across.
Now, since I fall down and have to restart, I may as well show you what happens when you talk to Booster:
: Oh!
What are you doing here?!
.....
Really, so Misery sent you here too...
*chuckle*...
Maybe there's a silver lining after all...
You see, this island floats in the sky by the power of a certain organism, and I've recently discovered its location.
This labyrinth.
The organism lives somewhere within this very labyrinth.
If one could destroy it, the island would cease to function.
*chuckle*
The doctor must really be in a rush, to send you into the very heart of this island.
Take this with you.
: This little machine will help you fly.
If you press the Jump Button in midair, you can hover.
Use it on the Item Screen to equip it.
Phew...
The minute I was sent flying, I though it was all over.
And yet it enabled me to meet you once again...
It looks like my luck has fun out here.
I pray for your victory...
He then goes poof and dies...
I reset here. We'll be seeing a few things that happen later on now that I haven't talked to him.
In order to continue without talking to him, you have to jump across the gap from the one door to the other. Doing so is very tricky.... I have to reset multiple times in order to avoid talking to Booster. Eventually, I do manage to get across by jumping across from higher up:
Now for what's beyond this door:
IT'S CURLY!!!
Checking out the rock results in this message:
"It's a massive, heavy rock.
From behind it, you can feel a wind blowing.
It looks like it would take at least two people to move it, though."
We'll deal with that rock later, for now, let's talk to Curly:
: Aha!
I was wondering when you'd show up.
If we can just get this big rock out of the way, we can get to the exit.
Rumor has it, though, that a monster nest lies just beyond...
So ya better be ready for that.
Anyway, lets get this thing out of the way.
You hold that side.
*goes over to the other side of the rock*
: .....
: It hasn't moved one bit.
I'm not sure the two of us are strong enough...
Then a familiar voice echoes through the room....
*Balrog drops down*
: You!
: Hohoho!
You're alive, I see!
Not only that, you're trying to get out of the Labyrinth!
Shouldn't you be staying put like good little robots?
You can't stand up to my master any more than I can, you know.
Fine then!
I'll just put a stop to this!
Hope you don't mind being iron scraps!
Now for one of my favorite parts of this game:
: Just who we were looking for!
Take the middle, will you?
*Balrog walks over to the rock*
: Ready?
One, two...
No idea why that makes me laugh when I see it (I did forget that Balrog sends Curly flying back a bit when he does that...), but anyway, now we have to fight Balrog again....
This fight is similar to most of the fights we've had with Balrog, but this time:
He has missiles........
The Blade works well in this fight, especially on the missiles (and they drop either exp, health, or missiles when they're destroyed, so that helps a bit), but because I couldn't fully heal again after fighting Monster X, this battle is very tricky.... I tried to use the Bubbler, but because the missiles are a bit more durable, the Bubbler doesn't protect against them as well....
After struggling through this fight a bit, I end up dying.... Time to keep count!
Death #1...
Note, after each death, I have to jump back across that gap and avoid falling down, or I have to restart... I end up restarting many, many times through this stretch..... Anyway:
Death #2...
#3....
#4......
Finally!
Lief was off, but since he's the only one to guess, he gets the cookies!
After beating him, Balrog has a change of heart about helping:
: I'll move the rock for you.
But remember...
Don't tell ANYONE that I helped you.
: You're secret's safe with us!
He then walks over to the rock:
After a few seconds:
*rock goes crash over on the other side of the room*
WE'RE FREE!!!!!
: Don't tell a soul that I helped you.
: We won't!
He then leaves by crashing through the roof (as usual).
: I don't think he's really that bad of a guy.
You don't know him like I do...
Anyway, after that, a treasure chest and save disc drop down:
Let's see what's in the chest:
Oooooo....
The upgrade basically make the missiles more powerful.
Anyway, I'll go ahead and end this part here for now. Until next time, see ya!

Re: Let's Play Cave Story!
Part 12: Down to the core:
- Part 12:
- Last time, I was about to follow Curly deeper into the Labyrinth, so here goes:
This plays through this area.
The white things are Gaudi Eggs. They're harmless, but if you shoot them, they give you exp, hearts, or missiles.
Oh yeah, Curly will be fighting along with us, and if you let her, she can take care of most of the enemies. Moving on:
The fan-like thing is called a Fire Whirrr. It goes up and down shooting fire at you (as seen in the shot).
There's also a Armor further up. It's basically a blue Gaudi, but it jumps around and throws these knife/boomerang-like things at you. They seem to be impossible to destroy when I shoot at them, so you have to dodge them.
Further on, more Fire Whirrrs:
And Gaudi Eggs:
Now I have to get across this section of water:
That's Curly's Machine Gun firing behind me btw (doesn't damage me). There's also something called a BuyoBuyo Base up ahead that launches these smaller things called BuyoBuyos. These are a bit of a pain to deal with, as the base sends out so many of them, but I manage to take care of this one with Curly's help.
After taking care of the enemies (there was also a few purple Critters that I forgot to mention), I have to get across to here (which was kinda tricky):
More Fire Whirrs and Armors (blue things):
I accidentally fall and land on one of the red spikes in that shot, killing myself and forcing me to go back to the start of this part...
Eventually, I reach this:
"Pressed it."
The button opens up the area next to me:
Dropping down leads to here:
The teleporter just takes me back to the Labyrinth Shop:
Nothing important here, and if I drop down, I don't think I can get back up here, so I just head back:
Which leads to these things called Fuzz. Destroying the core before the smaller ones sends them flying at you, so I suggest taking out the smaller ones first.
There was like 3 or 4 more of those after that one, but after I take care of them, I come to a door:
She checks out the face thing:
: We'll have to keep moving ahead.
She goes through the door on the other side of the room. I go ahead and save at the Save Disc nearby (thankfully, I managed to get my health bar full and all my weapons maxed out on exp before getting here).
Checking out the face thing gives this message:
"If it weren't for the grating, you could probably get through."
I then head through the door:
This plays in this area.
Let's talk to Curly again:
: Weird place, eh?
I wonder if this was some sort of base.
Not sure, but anyway, in order to move on, I have to head up here:
I say yes, and the things blocking the way move. Curly goes on ahead:
Then the computer says this:
"ABNORMALITY DETECTED IN SHUTTER NO. 4"
Better check it out:
: Looks like it's caught on something...
To get it unstuck, just shoot at it until this happens:
It then goes all the way up.
Then there's another shutter....
: All this security makes me wonder just what's down here.
Don't you think?
We'll soon see what's down here.....
Anyway, to get this shutter open, you have to go back to that computer from earlier:
Which lowers this:
Making this part accessible:
Which leads here:
And opens up the shutter:
Now we can get through!
After going through, I head towards the end of this area:
There's something important shining over here:
This will be coming in very handy in a moment! Also, this wouldn't be here if I had talked to Professor Booster earlier. Without this, I wouldn't be able to get to the Perfect ending.
Anyway, if you noticed that big green thing in some of the above shots, we'll be getting to that in a bit...
I head up this part to where Curly is:
: This is a soldier from the surface.
It's all banged up.
: What on earth could've...
Not a Mimiga.
No, to do this much damage...
Then something happens:
: !!!
: *Bzzbzbzztbz*
TEAM 9 ANNIHILATED
FAILED TO DESTROY TARGET
CURRENT FORCES INSUFFICIENT
RETREAT
RETREAT!!
It then goes poof, sending Curly flying back.
Then the shutter starts closing...
Time for a big boss...
This plays during this fight.
It starts off by firing these things at you, then fires more things....
Say hello to the Core....
But anyway, the room fills with water every once in a while, so you have to watch your air until it recedes...
And as you can see from the shot, Curly recovers from being blasted back earlier and helps. BTW, you can see a bubble around her if you look closely. That is her air tank that helps her breathe underwater.
Anyway, what you need to do to fight this Core is shoot down anything it shoots at you (they'll drop exp/health/missiles, which will come in handy). Then, when it's vulnerable, shoot at it with whatever you can:
Here's a better shot of some of the projectiles it fires at you:
It will also occasionally fire these large blasts at you:
I then forget to go back up for air and turn blue:
Brilliant....
On my second try though, I manage to take care of the Core:
Then Misery shows up.....
: Pulled it off, I see!
: You!
You're that witch who tossed me down here!
Those children had better be safe!
: Ha! Be silent!
You're no mother!
Do you even know what this is?!
: What?
: Hmph. This is what I hate about robots.
This is the heart of the island!
If you stop it, the island will fall to the earth!
Is that your grand plan?
To take the island down with you in a blaze of glory?!
Fools!!
Then the Doctor shows up:
: What are you doing?
Bring the core to the laboratory at once!
There's still time!
Misery then zaps the core:
It then teleports away. The doctor also teleports away, and Misery leaves:
Then the room starts filling with water again:
And it doesn't stop.......
The screen goes black when my air reaches 0:
Then something pops up that didn't last time I played:
"His name was Ballos.
Like his sister, he wielded powers far beyond those of mortals..."
That's something that involves the perfect ending. We'll be hearing more about Ballos later. Right now, it shifts back to this:
Curly gave me her air tank..... How brave of her....
I check on her:
"She isn't moving but it looks like she's still alive."
She's still alive!!!
Now, this is one of the reasons why they call this the perfect ending:
HELL YEAH!!
Now I can carry her out of here!Caps will go shipping crazy if he reads this part.
Fortunately, the way out isn't blocked anymore, but it quickly seals up after I go through:
I then head out of this area:
The face thing isn't blocked off, so we can go through there now, but since there's a save disc where I'm standing, I'll save up here and end this part. So until next time, see ya!

But anyway, I wanted to point out that it seemed like there were more enemies in the first part. I guess I missed a few shots... Sorry about that guys...
